  1. Hi folks, I drive a w reg 1.8 lx estate and wondering what are the best tyres to get in terms of longevity and fuel efficiency. Is it a false economy to go for a budget tyre, even part worn, or should I be looking at Michelins @ £75 a pop? Any help, much appreciated as always...
  2. £350 - really looking to have this gone now - absolutely nothing majorly wrong with this car, so anyone looking to grab themselves a bargain is welcome to it for £350 and open to offers as just want it gone now - please.
  3. Cheers - MOT till NOV, tyres in 'good' condition - no paperwork and split in airflow pipe (easy to access and cheap part so simple fix) - has been taped which is not ideal, but should last until fix - problem presents as slight judder when foot is taken off accelerator at low speed. Can let it go for £425 ono... Just want rid now tbh. A good car, even with issues drives great other than judder described. Any more info, please ask!!
  4. Ah right, see what you're saying now - nice one; hadn't thought of that...
  5. Is that something to be concerned about bearing in mind that it's more than likely going to the scrap heap provided it lasts the remainder of its MOT?
  6. Hi folks, I stupidly bought an Octavia estate without checking insurance first (went on assumptions from similar). Bought, taxed and insured similar for less than the difference of insuring the Octavia (which I still can't work out) and am wondering if it's worth taking the old wheels off the Octavia and putting them on the new, which has close to balding tyres and no spare wheel. I know about decreased fuel economy and the loss of power that comes with bigger tyres/wheels but would a jump from 185/65R14 to 195/65R15 really going to make much of a difference, or is it worth forking out on a new set of tyres (+spare)? Cheers, MArk PS: Bear in mind that I'll probably end up driving this motor for a year then PXing for another cheapo run around...
  7. Hi folks, just about to register my 1999 octavia estate as sorn as can't afford to insure it ATM, and finding it difficult to sell (insurance around 3 times more than similar model fords & other brands - no explanation so far). Is a cover enough to protect motor from the elements of a car stored on a driveway long term, or is a cover even necessary?
  8. EVER RELIABLE LOAD LUGGER!! Grey T REG Octavia Estate. Runs and pulls lovely. Done 125K with cam belt changed at 105K. New brake pads & clutch, mechanically in great shape! Small dent in bumper, n/side wing mirror is supported with tape, front & rear o/side electric windows don't work (hence price) - decent reliable economical load lugger. PM/message with interest. Inspection/Test drive welcome.
  9. I'm guessing it all depends on how the motor in question has been cared for, but what kind of mileage would concern you or is mileage just not a factor? Looking at buying at the moment, and things I generally look for are 100k or less, few owners, long mot and cheap insurance. On a seriously tight budget atm, but what should I be looking out for other than this? (Seen a slightly batter Audi Avant Est w tow bar that's done 157K for 299 - seems too good to be true, how can I tell if it's a money pit or a bargain?)
  10. H all, just wondering if anyone can help me get to the bottom of why a 2.0l Focus Estate would be £500 cheaper to insure than a 1.6 Octavia Estate. I've just upgraded from a Fabia and having received reasonable quotes for 1.6-2.0 Focuses, went out and bought an Octavia Estate, and now they're asking a ridiculous transfer! This is across the board, not just the company I'm dealing with. Any help/hints/tips would be much appreciated.
  11. Could sort doors/windows out myself, just v little time at the moment. Quite frustrating, as it's served us well over the past couple of years and the engine itself is tip top. Need something bigger in any case to be fair, and not worth spending £700 odd on repairs when someone with more mechanical know-how could fix it up and make a few quid. Thanks for the welcome & for pointing the way to Freedom! I will be sure to pay closer attention in future. Think £350's the most I'd feel comfortable asking; still a bargain at that price. Cheers for input fellas!
  12. 1.2 Fabia Classic with long MOT (Jan '17). Recently had fuel sensor & brake sensors replaced. 108k miles. Tyres new in Feb and recently serviced with MOT. CD player, Immobiliser etc. Lots of paperwork. Good runner that has never let me down in 3 years, but does have some issues, hence price. Road worthy and running fine, if a little throaty. BAD BITS: Rear bushes need replacing & brake pads are on their way out. Does have catalytic converter issue, but further diagnostics required to suss out if this is a sensor or the CAT itself (presenting atm as heavier than usual fuel consumption). Engine itself is spot on. Coil pack 3 changed last year. Interior is OK after a valet, considering age. Rear o/side door won't open, front n/side door won't open from the inside. Easy fixes. Front n/side electric window doesn't work as cable has snapped (motor will also need replacing or window sealed shut). Fully valetted, feel free to test drive. 3 owners from new, 5 seats, £350 Offers/Comments welcome.
