  1. Their website says "We offer a lifetime guarantee on our vehicle glasswork (both the parts we fit and our repair and installation workmanship) for as long as you own your vehicle." Their customer services have been very helpful (so far!). I emailed them all the details to [email protected] (to save having to explain everything over the phone) and they phoned me back the next day to book to replacement. They said the next engineer they send will be an expert engineer with many years experience -- which worries me how qualified the first engineer was!
  2. Autoglass have agreed to replace the screen next Wednesday with another 3rd-party screen -- they said it could just be a one-off problem, or a faulty batch. If there's an issue with this second screen, they will then replace with a genuine Skoda screen. Now I figured out how to turn the heat off, the wavy artefacts are gone - I guess it was like a mini version of when you see the road surface "wobble" when it's hot. The car still refuses to stop-start. It also feels like the AC is blowing a lot colder than normal -- I had it set to Auto + AC + 22C today (about 10C outside) -- this would normally be quite warm for me, but it was blowing out cold air. Again, it could point to a missing temperature sensor(s). Will update next Wednesday.
  3. Do the genuine screens have Skoda logo printed on them? My insurance policy (Swiftcover) says "We may choose to repair your car with parts that may not have been made by its manufacturer but are of a similar standard." Which is fine to use 3rd-party parts, but it's clear (to me anyway) that this glass is not of a similar standard. I've unticked the "Automatic windscreen heating" option in the AC setup menu, and it has now turned off, but anytime I have the AC on, I get the Start-stop system status: "Windscreen could become fogged". I think this clearly points to a missing / disconnected temperature sensor in the new windscreen. Attached picture of the logo from the new windscreen & the Start-stop status (sorry for dirty screen!)
  4. My original screen had diagonals like that, so maybe the OEM design was changed? Thanks for pointing me to the other thread. Thankfully my car doesn't have Lane Assist, but does have main beam assist (think that's just a normal camera though, that doesn't need calibration) & rain sensors that I also need to check. Will contact Autoglass and try to push for genuine Skoda glass replacement.
  5. I had a new windscreen fitted on Sunday, after a large crack from a stone -- cracked almost all the way across from left to right, after a stone hit in the middle. When ordering on the phone, I was told that the new windscreen would match the original windscreen & paid the £75 insurance excess. The heating elements in the new windscreen are no longer controlled by the car controls. You can actively feel heat radiating from the glass, even when the heating is not switched on. On the original windscreen, the car automatically switched on heating when it was cold, or you could activate it with the heating control buttons. The new windscreen seems to be heating all the time, and gets a LOT hotter than the original windscreen, which was barely warm to the touch -- just warm enough to melt frost / ice. The optical quality of the glass is poor. Distorted curved glass at the edges of the windscreen is very distracting. I never noticed any distortion on the edges of the glass with the original windscreen. The new glass is also creating a "wavy" optical effect. I think this is likely caused by the thin heating elements, but the original windscreen had these elements, but did not produce these wavy artefacts. This is noticeable when looking into the distance, and very noticeable when looking at vertical objects (e.g. vertical railings, writing on registration plates). It is slightly nauseating at times, and I have never had any kind of travel sickness before. Overall, I feel this windscreen does not of the same quality that the original screen had. Considering pushing the insurance company to provide a screen replacement direct from Skoda, and get a refund from Autoglass -- don't even know what will be possible in terms of Customer Service, as it's been done through insurance so far. Although they say it won't affect my NCD, I believe it may still affect my renewal pricing, and I'll still have to declare it as a claim to a new insurance company. (On top of that, I've found scratches on the steering wheel after the glass was replaced, like it has been scuffed with glass or a sharp tool!) Has anyone else had their heated windscreen replaced by Autoglass, or Skoda? Any advice / pointers would be appreciated. :'(
  6. Sorry, just found this post: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/294727-lane-assist-camera-light-assist-camera/#entry3502962 I have "Light Assist only" camera & sensors :(
  7. Is it possible to enable lane assist with VCDS? I seem to have all the sensors in the windscreen, including high beam assist camera. Guess it needs some coding as well, not just enabling? Cheers (Sorry if this is a duplicate... I've seen other posts asking to enable traffic sign recognition from lane assist, but not this specifically.)
  8. Mobius has a new video timelapse function in the latest firmware... you could reduce framerate to extend the recording time (depending on what you want?) The Mobius also supports 128GB cards. The online manual says the camera will format a 64GB+ card as FAT32, but I think it now supports exFAT.
  9. I think the initial stop/start not stopping/starting is usually related to battery voltage... if the battery's not over a certain charge, it won't kick in. It would explain why some can stop/start straight away, and some need a few minutes / miles. For example, if I leave my dashcam recording when parked, stop/start will take a lot longer to become available, while the battery is replenished. Manual also says that manual transmission cars have a minimum distance to drive before the engine can automatically shutdown, implying DSG can stop/start sooner. I agree that stop/starting could affect DPF (being EXTRA careful after major DPF issues on previous car!). I will switch off stop/start until engine temperature (oil) is up to 80°C.
  10. This thread has been a great help -- thanks! I've finished setting up my Mobius camera today... I finally had the guts to take off the plastic cover to hide the wire to the left windscreen column (note: my column didn't have an airbag symbol on the plastic, but did have an airbag inside [i think that was mentioned earlier in the thread]... I just tucked the USB cable above the airbag "thingy", alongside the other wires). The Mobius camera lens is on an extension cable, so the only visible bit is the lens itself. Everything's stuck on with 3M Mini Command Clips -- I got the "water resistant" ones (think this might help keep 'em stuck if there's any condensation of the windscreen in the morning, etc) I tried it stuck on top of the mirror, but it got in the way adjusting the mirror. Where it is now gives easy access to the MicroSD card & I can see both LEDs clearly. I've also ordered a supercapcitor to replace the battery... but going to check everything's running OK before I change anything else. I'm also planning on wiring in to a switched live, but really don't think I have the confidence to be "messing around" with the fuse box (although I did get the glovebox out to look at it... which was a challenge in itself!)
  11. It's already gone! You don't have to display for 14 days (and the dealership hasn't provided it yet anyway)... by the time it comes it'll be too late. When (if?!) it comes I'll have one of the last ever tax discs... I'll keep it safe, in the bin Luckily, these were just plastic strips stuck to the back with (strong!) double-sided tape. It looks like they've drilled holes in the front bumper to fit the plates though, when there already seems to be mounting holes for them. Screws are in very top left & right corners of the plate. Very happy with the new car!!
  12. Why it is commonplace for dealerships to put adverts in brand new (or any!) cars? Branded tax disc holder (normal) Window sticker in boot (normal) Address on number plate (I think this is a legal requirement?) "Valeted by" sticker in windscreen (!) Additional "backplate" sticking out underneath numberplate with website address (!!!) I can't think of any other retail scenario where this would happen. Luckily all were easily removable

    Hi!

Hi all! I'm Martin from Liverpool... Previous cars: Corsa 07-plate 1.3CDTi Club Corsa 59-plate 1.3CDTi SXi Corsa 61-plate 1.7CDTi SE (the 07-plate Corsa was a great car... but the build quality, technology & customer service has got progressively worse over the years!) I'm taking delivery of my Octavia next week -- very excited! Octavia Estate GreenLine III 1.6 TDI (colour: pacific blue // extras: cruise control, colour maxidot, light pack (light assist / rain sensor / chromatic rear view mirror), winter pack, clever pack (think this is just a plastic bin & phone holder?!) By coincidence, I've ended up with an Octavia as a hire car for this week, so I've been able to get get used to the infotainment, controls, etc. [Long story about my old car being stuck in the garage!] I hardly ever see any Octavia Estates around here... but visited Edinburgh a few weeks ago, and they're very popular there!
  14. (Hi! first post here! -- Sorry for bringing up an old(ish) thread.) Looks like the new "A7" Bolero supports FLAC (page 29) http://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Octavia_5E/05-2014/Radio/Bolero/A7_Octavia_Bolero_InfotainmentRadio.pdf Should be getting my Octavia soon -- will be excellent if I can play FLAC files from the SD. Anyone tried this? Cheers
