  1. Thanks Bowders1 for this excellent thread. Replaced the nearside wing on my wife's Octy 1 over the weekend and your help was invaluable. It is a great car, 1.9tdi 130bhp Elegance 04 regarding with only 56k miles (10k with us in 2 years). Round here the stone walls are something of a peril but replacement of the wing has proved very low cost. Thanks again.
  2. Our 1.9tdi (130) has the check engine light on but not consistently. For example, it went off on a 5 mile journey this morning after a few yards but was back on for the whole of the return trip. Engine seems to go a well as ever. Should we be concerned? What is the cause likely to be?
  3. Thanks Jimbof. Of course what has happened now is that it has not performed the trick again! So everything is back to normal. I'll have to wait for it to kick off again. Hope it is a long time.....
  4. My Superb has a 1.9tdi 130bhp engine and I have only had it a couple of months. It is an 05 reg and had £56k miles on the clock when I got it but now has 62k. It had been used for short journeys but now does mainly clear motorway and A road miles. This morning I noticed that when switching the engine off at work, there was a noise of something in the engine ( a pump) slowing down rather noisily. Engine restarted fine but same noise again when I switched it off. Seemed like it was on the drivers side but it is difficult to tell. Any one any idea what it could be and what the end game will be? Many thanks.
  5. Thanks Brown Barge, that worked perfectly as one can line up tight to the glass and everything it ready for a medium sized cloudy to push the tabs into the springs. Earlier in the day I was barking up the wrong tree as the spring clips had stayed on the plastic and I was trying to fit them to the metal. Of course the clips should be removed and fitted to the metal first and the the nice accomodating tab allows some wriggle room. Job done! Even though the failed motor revealed two other problems, it was a nice job to do and vastly quicker thanks to this forum!! Many thank all.
  6. Update. The leak was indeed caused by one of the pipes at the join behind the near side rear speaker. Many thanks. That saved me ages! Refitted it and strapped it so hopefully it won't happen again. That got water to the wiper motor but not up the wiper arm. After a lot of checking and faffing realised that the tiny chamber behind the nozzles was clogged solid. Managed in the end to blow it, poke it and wash it clean and all is well. Now the excitement turns getting the plastic cover refitted over the inside of the hatch. Clearly the top spring fixings go on first and then the plastic tabs push in and lock but does anyone have any tricks to align the thing for the first part? Can't see a thing when aligning the spring fixings to the lips they fit on.
  7. Brilliant chaps! I'll give it a go in the morning.
  8. In a previous post I was asking advice about rear wiper motors on my wife's Octy 1 hatch. Lots of sound advice - thank you. The update is that I bought motor on ebay for £71 inc delivery (Valeo) and fitted it this afternoon. It works fine and fitting was easy but no water is coming through. It did not when the old motor was attached either. The water passage in the new motor is clear but I noticed that although no water was coming out of the nozzle, the front reservoir went down. Heart sank! The fracture / disconnection seems to be at the rear. With the tailgate up, water appeared in the slight well on the left of the boot (looking at it), under the CD player. Nice green soapy water also appeared on the drive from the rear of the wheel arch ( boot drain?). Where is the break likely to be? Is it another common fault and they go in the same place? Ironic since washer water killed the wiper motor! Goodness knows when as we have only had the car a few weeks.
  9. Thanks guys. It is a hatch so I will check for water ingress. May well have killed itself as the washer motor works but no liquid emerges. Arg!
  10. Thanks Lee. Yes I have checked the fuse both visually and electrically.
  11. The wiper on my wife's Octavia has failed and is just sitting in the middle of its arc. After it happened I noticed that a lot of VAG cars seem to have the same problem. Is there a simple fix?
  12. Many thanks Lee. I chickened out on the ungluing as if I broke the thing that would be that without a spare key. All back together again and the car runs like a good'un. I know the transponders are unpowered but I thought they were fitted in the pcb. Thanks again!
  13. I have just put the key (electronics and blade) to my wife's 1.9tdi into a new casing. The car can be locked and unlocked as usual but the immobiliser no longer 'unlocks' and so the engine only runs for a second or so. The glow plug light flashes in unison with the car security light. As this is the only key to the car, I seem to be beached! Any help much appreciated .

  15. I have recently bought a mark 1 Superb and it is in very good condition but the interior paintwork is worn on the grab handles at the front. It is the soft feel rubberised stuff. How can I restore it or get rid of it? Any suggestions much appreciated.
