Hi lovely folks,
I'm trying to find out if anyone has experience with the engine cutting out on a 2014 Skoda Octavia VRS TSI. Keyless entry and start. 60k miles.
I've used the car since new, it was my company car but then I brought it from the car leasing company. Its got FSH from the same Skoda garage. I've not had any real issues from it until recently. My partner drives the car mostly nowadays, a few weeks ago he was driving along the M1 when all the lights came on the dashboard and it told him on the screen not to forget his phone, the engine didn't cut out this time.
It was showing two faults that my local garage pulled off as I couldn't get the car into Skoda any time soon. Since then, Skoda have had the car, run checks on it and apparently everything was fine. A week later he was driving it again with my 2 year old daughter in, and in a 30mph zone, going downhill (if that makes any difference) the dashboard lit up again, he was shown "don't forget to take your phone" and the engine (and subsequently the steering and braking etc) cut out. He was stuck near a set of busy traffic lights, rang me to bring the spare key to him as the car was no longer acknowledging his key in the car. Both times this has happened, he thinks he's heard the doors central locking unlock.
I got there, tried to open the front passenger door but it was still locked, the only door (inc the boot) that was locked. Anyway, gave him he other key and the car didn't acknowledge that key either. The other half and our daughter went off in my van and I stayed with the car. I went through the whole locking, unlocking thing (these continued to work even though the car wouldn't start), opening and shutting all the doors inc the boot, got in the car, pressed the ignition button and it started! So i drove it straight back to Skoda. The chap at Skoda said maybe both keys had miraculously stopped working at exactly the same time and thats what the problem is (highly unlikely). Skoda have now had it several days, its only cut out for them once. They're at a lose as to what it could be, other than they said it could be something with Body Control Module (BCM). The chap at Skoda today has rung me to say maybe its the tow bar as that's the only thing that isn't standard on the car. He soon changed his mind when I let him know that it was his Skoda garage that fitted the tow bar when I first got the car back in 2014. The Skoda garage have been in tough with the factory too and they're not aware of any fault like this.
So he's at a loss as to whats causing it. I don't want to be spending thousands of pounds chasing a fault that Skoda have no idea about. I'm annoyed that a car that isn't even 6 years old could have a problem like this, I've lost all faith in driving the car and as the guy at Skoda says, its dangerous. At the moment the cars still at Skoda, does anyone have any pearls of wisdom please?
Ta muchly for reading.
