  1. Hi Gadgetman, I tried as you suggested resetting to learn mode, the symptoms are slightly different but the problem is still the same. When the car is cold the gear changes are pretty well perfect, after ten minutes or so it will stick in third until either I apply a LOT more throttle or manually change up to fourth. This is not consistent as sometimes it will revert to pretty near perfect gear changes again and then when you think it is solved, back comes the hesitancy to change up. To my mind it feels like some sort of speed or temperature sensor, hence the reason I am reluctant to spend out £800 on a replacement mechatronic unit which MAY not cure the problem. I am going to persevere with it for the moment to see if it improves or gets worse, it is drive able but just annoying. Next service is due in November so will get the dealership to check for fault codes again. Thanks for the advice.
  2. My apologies, I will try to be more precise... When the DSG goes into 3rd and is reluctant to go into 4th, I can accelerate until the engine is very high revving and then it will eventually go into 4th, hence the reason I use manual when this happens. The DSG has only just been reset by an authorised dealership, so I presume it is correct. Grateful for your feedback.
  3. Long story and not yet solved.... Hi, My Skoda Octavia diesel DSG 2006 reg has been faultless except for a cruise control stalk being replaced. I have now done 62k miles. I parked my car for a ten day holiday and on my return the gearbox was reluctant or hesitant to change from 3rd to 4th gear. I took it into the garage and they carried out an error code check... No faults found. The gearbox oil has been replaced. The symptoms are that in auto and approx 25mph the gearbox will not change up into 4th although it will for about the first fifteen minutes of driving and after that it is intermittent. The Skoda dealership suspected a mechatronic unit, but having searched the Internet , mechatronic unit faults do not correlate with mine. Also the dealership wish to charge me in excess of £800 to exchange but cannot guarantee that this will solve the problem !!! They have reset the system to manufacturers settings but still not cured. I can overcome the problem by changing up into 4th manually. Another comment on the Internet suggested they had a similar problem and it turned out to be the wheel detectors on the ASR, but to my non mechanical mind I couldn't see the connection. So finally I would be pleased if someone has had and rectified a similar problem or has any advice, as I am reluctant to go ahead with a mechatronic replacement and discover that this is not the problem.
