  1. Where can I find the scope of a MAJOR SERVICE for the SUPERB 3 2.0 Diesel.
  2. Thanks, I can well manage without you two advising me in those tones! It's a good thing you are not saying it within arms length! Looks like there wasn't an issue with the main dealer anyway. Service Manager claims they sent an email out to me on 31st January ..... but I never received it! So they are not sore about the roasting they got from me last year.
  3. Usually receive a reminder from my local Skoda Main Dealer about Service due in 2 or 3 weeks. This year, nothing so far, even though I'm down to 'Due in 11 days' on the in-car system. Can't help but think that they have spit the 'dummy' out after the noise I made last year on the subject of overcharging for Belt Set scheduled change - including service, cost was £550. Pretty close to deciding to go to a competent independent this year.
  4. 2016 Superb 3. Any idea what the part at the bottom of the Rear Bumper Moulding which carries the reverse alarm sensors (see photo) is called and to ask the diffcult one, anyone know where I can find the part number? I thought it was the Diffuser, but not sure.
  5. Superb III - Tailgate Electric Struts noisy - 'mechanical noise' is probably best way to describe it - sounds like bearings or gears running dry. Not happy at the thought of paying ridiculous cost of new struts. At one point some kind person posted a 'fix' on this site and it worked .... Help!
  6. My hunch is that the belt and associated components are good for the lifetime of the car (unless you are a Taxi driver). If VW are recommending a 130k mile change, that would be their worst case and you can bet your boots they have successfully tested the belts/associated components well above that mileage. I'M DARN SURE YOU ARE RIGHT THERE! THEY WILL NOT TAKE TOO MANY RISKS! INRTERESTING POINT YOU MAKE ABOUT VAG UK - I WONDER? I WOULDN'T HAVE EXPECTED THEM TO TAKE A DIFFERENT VIEW TO THE CONTINENT. MAYBE THEY ARE INFLUENCED BY THE USA WHERE AVOIDING LITIGATION IS ALWAYS HIGH ON COMPANY AGENDA!
  7. I think all the correspondents so far are correct in their thinking to a greater or lesser degree. Choosing to stay loyal to the Main Dealer obviously costs as it has me! As far as life is concerned, the quoted mileage seemed to universally be 70000 miles (120000 kilomtres). I think the VAG Group have set 5 years for convenience sake, because service events are pretty much calendar based so as not to inconvenience and aggravate the customer too much! On the basis of 70000 miles, 5 years life would be a mean annual mileage of 14000 - not far adrift of what we got used to - 12000 miles per annum! Maybe the 120000 miles is in fact 120000 kilometres? Anyway, job done now! Anyone want a 5 year old Superb at low mileage for a reasonable price?
  8. Unpleasant and unwelcome shock in the wallet this morning when I arrived at the Skoda Dealer to drop my Superb Mark 3 off for Service and MOT! Reminded that at 5 years, TIMING BELT should be changed and it would cost £550! - hope that is VAT inclusive! Service reception tried to respond when I commented at cost by saying it was a big job and the alternative was unthinkable! Doesn't make my wallet feel better!! Mind you, having said all this, as an Engineer, I spent quite a bit of time trying to equate these calendar maintenance events to time or mileages! Accepting of course that items such as belts, hoses etc. do have a finite shelf life! However, surely in this day and age, it would not be beyond the bounds of possibility that an Engine cycle counter could be added to the Engine Management package and work out maintenance scheduling in terms of cycles? My car is 5 years next month and has done 16120 miles!
  9. Thanks! I admit to not having read the manual in that much detail, to be honest! Good information. Definitely quieter now - still confused as to connection between noisy strut and manual lift is, but at least I got some peace of mind and time to check manuals and whatever.
  10. Yes, exaclty right! However let the electrics do their thing on the first opening after initial unlock, then pull down relatively s-l-o-w-l-y, don't let Tailgate latch - raise to full height - pull down, etc. When you think that you are happy, just one more, latch and check in normal operation. I don't exactly understand the connection between the complexities of the system and this reset mentioned by the technician and the (apparent) mechanical noise from the strut, but does to seem to work. I wonder how he found out! Certainly nobody in VAG would tell him and it's not likely to be a Dealergiving good customer service and saving money! Yes, I don't like any kind of sales person myself, but in this case I guess they are just being safe and toeing the VAG line.
  11. Having tried the procedure of manual lift and close a couple of times, the noisy strut is perceptibly quieter, uness my brain and imagination are playing tricks on me! Thanks for the tip.
  12. Long time since the last post. Having a problem with a noisy Electric Strut on Tailgate on my 2016 Superb. Astronomical cost of replacement part! Couldn't quite afford cost of the £450 parts and labour at Dealer as well as £280 Diagnositcs, Parts and Labour for what turned out to be a defective Engine Flap (Kit 5Q0253692B), so deferred Strut replacement for now. This all came as a shock when I realised that I hadn't the extended warranty that I thought I had! Any leads to where I can get a cheaper Strut - new or decent pre-used in good nick?
  13. Thanks indeed - I found that out by asking you kind people. In process of downloading just now!
  14. And my postcode option is not full UK postcode. Neither does it recognise postcodes which relate to a location, not a specific house or building! Try these: M45 8GT; M90 5DL; WA15 8XQ Anyone been told the same as me - that the maps can't be updated? Help!
  15. Received Tyre Pressure Warning Light on Friday afternoon whilst driving home. Checked tyres and sure enough, one was going down. Inflated to normal pressure but alarm light still on. Decided to fit spare - alarm remains on. Do I have to cancel the alarm manually and how?
  16. Recently changed to a Superb from an Octavia and notice a difference in recorded mileage for the same journey. Octavia recorded mileage also agrees with my Sat Nav; Superb reads 168.4 miles for round trip, Octavia and Sat Nav both show 173.8 miles. Not sure about speedo - reckon that's out too! Superb has standard 225/40 R18 tyres, so calibration should be OK but might not be!. Thoughts?
