  1. I wanted a petrol car with dsg, cheap to tax, roof rails (as I regularly carry a bike), a nice interior (having had Audis in the past) and a good size boot. I also wanted enough room to sit behind myself (I'm 6'4") - not many can do that but the Octy has more leg room than the A6 it replaced. I hired an insignia for a week recently and I was so grateful to get back in my Octavia afterwards - just a nicer place to be!
  2. I have standard Thule roof bars on mine and I can open the roof. I have to put them a little further back than normal. They are off at the moment but going back on for Monday morning, I'll take some pics to show the clearance.
  3. Big +1 from me for the 1.4tsi dsg elegance estate. Great car. Test drive one and didn't even bother looking at diesels after that.
  4. You can turn off the 'coming home' feature in the infotainment - I've done the same, leaving the 'leaving home' feature on.One point of adaptive lights is that they change, depending on speed. I like that they have a very wide coverage at slower speeds. They light up far more road than my last car at any speed. You could turn off the adaptive bit - at least you have the choice.
  5. I'd report it as they could have been caught doing something else later, say they'd caused another accident a few miles down the road and it turned out they were drunk? This footage could then become part of a larger investigation.
  6. I've had mine go off a few times. A couple of beeps and once I felt the brakes kidder as I put my foot on it. So far it has only done this when I'm approaching a car turning left where I can see they will be out of the way in time. Found out another warning which is nice to see it is aware of... If you are doing more than 60kph and you get a little close (not really close) you get a distance warning where the odometer is (on maxidot), two cars with an exclamation mark between them. No sounds though, I guess if I got even closer it would start yelling at me.
  7. Sub port is below the VBF when it is the highest position. Difference is down to the surrounding area between the sub and the VBF. Here is a pic of mine with the VBF out of the way. The port is in the same area as a non-VBF sub, if anything the port appears more open (I say appears as I've not got access to a non-vbf one).
  8. Got 50.3mpg on a 113 mile trip back from Preston today (49.6mpg there and back). Very impressed. Admittedly average speed was only 53mph, but still pretty good and never disappointing.
  9. Love my red (elegance) estate. Got pano roof too. Part of me wishes all the roof was black though. I got the chrome rails and window surrounds too - and it looks great. I think there is another red one locally to me, but I've not seen any others on the road (not that I get out much! ) We had a race blue demo which the wife and kids love (and I almost ordered) but then I showed them this: https://flic.kr/p/eftHi2 And they all voted for red! Wife has named her Scarlett!
  10. I had similar damage on my old A6 but that was 11 years old, occasionally the belt would get gripped by the slot and the edge of the belt became furry. Not enough wear to cause concern though. Seat position could play a factor in the wear. The previous owner was a fairly short woman, so the seat would have been very far forward. Never had it in the A4 before it though - both identical VAG designs to this. Will check my dad's '03 passat when I next see it.
  11. How old are your kids? A pair of decent sunglasses is far cheaper! My son usually travels in the front as it helps his travel sickness, tints are no help for him.
  12. Factory sunset is very subtle - so subtle I didn't notice they'd missed a window on my car: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/341736-first-problem-sunset/ As mentioned above I like the fact it is part of the glass, you could always tint it a bit more after if it isn't dark enough, which it won't be if you are after it for security.
  13. Next generation units will not require Mitsumi, similar to how Columbus works now. No definite date on when they will be in the O3 yet though, if ever. Amundsen does not currently have mitsumi built in.
  14. You'll get used to it. It's the same side as my previous two Audis. Maybe it suits me better that side as I am 6'3". +1 for spare wheel. Love the pano roof, Columbus and canton. I have memory seats as SWMBO and I both drive the car nearly every day - the auto dimming wing mirrors are a bonus, really useful at night. 'Leather' quality isn't up there with Audi, but it does the job. Camera is great, especially if you parallel park a lot.
  15. I seem to recall that mine returns to the correct position when I turn the engine off but I will check when the wife brings it home. You have to save the reverse position for your seat memory setting. Turn on the ignition, press your memory button, turn knob to R (or L in UK), engage reverse, set mirror position, disengage reverse. Works every time for me, just have to turn to L (in UK) and it drops when I reverse. The manual does mention you need to set the reverse position again each time new settings are set.
