  1. Thanks for the info - I am quessing that the solution may be a new pair of fans with the built in components!! - seeing as they share the housing. Price I have so far is circa £200. Will I have to reset any fault codes or will the ECu recognies that the fault has gone with the new parts? Thanks
  2. Does anyone else have any ideas where to find the fan control unit on my Octy???
  3. Hi I have a five and a half year old 2.0 TDI Octy with 127,000 miles on it. has a longlife service every 18,000 or so miles and has a treat of regular oil top ups between servicing - this can be 3 to four litres. My theory is that is tries to do its own oil change by using oil!!! LOL
  4. Hi I wondered that and have looked with a mirror under the battery - couldn't see it (too dark!!). If it is integrated with the fans then it may be a complete fan/module assembly rather than separates?!?!?
  5. Hi Just had my car serviced and happen to mention to them that when using the air con that the radiator fans seem to cut in and out a lot - even when only just turning on the AC. Turns out that I have a faulty fan control unit. They have suggested that I need a new fan control unit and also the fans on the radiator to be replaced. I have a 2005 Octy 2 litre TDi 140BHP (Engine Code BKD) 1) Do I really need to replace the module and the fans? 2) When is the fan control module/unit on my car - my workshop manual shows a picture of the module but not where it is!! Any help and or photos really appreciated. Thanks
  6. Anyone know why it is the battery that is causing the problem when hot? - or can anyone give me a link to a page?
  7. Hi All I have recently noticed a new problem when starting my car from hot. The car is a five and a half year old 2.0L TDI with 126,000 miles!!. My usual starting procedure is clutch depressed, turn key, wait for glow plugs to go out and start. When cold no problems unless really really cold - however when it is hot I start as per normal and it turns over for a few seconds then starts with a clunk. However if I press the accelerator slightly it will start normally. It almost seems like a fuel problem. The car is going in for its seventh long life service on in a weeks time and hopefully the VAG independent will find the problem, but I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks TRW
  8. I have a prob with the glass - I broke it by gently prising it off. Wanted to do this to check the heated element connections as it wasn't working as well!!! I have stripped and rebuilt a Golf 5 mirror before with no probs, but the octy is being a sod!!! I have order a replacement mirror but due to the heater connection being so short I wanted to remove cover before removing mirror to get better access to them. I try lifting if I can get to the clips from the front side. Thanks
  9. Hi I need to replace the mirror glass on my octy II (2005) However the heated element cables are really short and it looks like I may need to remove the shell/case. I've looked on this site but can't find any of the links to a more pictorial guide that actually work. Can anyone help with clear instructions of a working link to a pictorial website. Thanks
  10. I feel very lonely - does no one fancy replying to me!!!!!!!! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
  11. Hi All I've just installed some LED Canbus friendly LED sidelights bulbs. They much better than the pee coloured OEM bulbs. My question is that, when turning the ignition on the bulbs flicker for a few seconds - my only assumption is that this is the Engine management system checking bulbs for integrity by sending small current through - causing the LED to flicker - the current not being enough to illuminate normal bulbs, but enough for the LEDs due to the lower current consumption. Is this a plausible explanation? Any other ideas. Ta
  12. Hi Has anyone used the millers diesel fuel additive - is it any good? Had any problems. I have a slightly smoky 2.0tdi - however it only really smokes under harsh acceleration!! Thanks
  13. Does anyone know where the post referred to in the link above has gone ?????
  14. Hi I have one of the first Octavia Elegance Estates II - with No aux input. I am thinking about buying an aftermarket 'Connects 2' to enable Ipod or an MP3 player to be installed. I realise that I will loose use of the 6 CD change in the boot by doing this - but I was wondering if any knew if the reversing sensors would still work or if they share any CD Aux cabling? Any experience appreciated,. Thanks
  15. This may help - its about fitting a towbar but obliviously involves the bumper removal http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/estate_towbar.htm If it were me I would tie some cotton on a nut - drop from the outside through the hold - remove the nut tie around sensor if possible and then pull back up - may need the help of a stick or two - worth a got before removing the bumper
  16. Dead simple - remove the foam panel underneath the glovebox (a couple or so small plastic screws) The withdraw the filter from the housing and slide a new one in)
  17. Hi All Started to notice that one of the radiator fans frequently runs whenever climate control switched on. Seems to take place very few minutes. Is this normal or is it my fan controller going wrong? Thanks
  18. Hi My car (5 yrs old) just failed its MOT. It is due to have the front passenger side suspension bush replaced and I am also having the console bushes replaced (these didn't fail - but are on their way out). On the basis that this is all front end work would it cause uneven wear on the rear passenger tyre??? The inside edge is far more worn than the outside edge. All other tyres are fine. Thanks
  19. An update - replaced the hose clip after cutting the hose slightly shorter - still leaked diesel but found that sucking air noise had gone. Problem appeared to be the washer on the vent screw - it has corroded from the outside edge in to the middle. Replaced it and hey presto no more leak - I never would have thought it could have been that!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Hi All Any thoughts on the following: 1) At approx 70mph I have noticed a pulsing kind of judder from the car. Wheels have recently been rebalanced and no problems with them, but the whole car seems to judder/vibrate. 2) Rough idle. Rev counter is static at about 850 RPM and needle shows no movement but it seems likes the cylinders miss firing every few seconds. Any thoughts or similar experiences. Car is Octy II TDi 140 BHP with 107,000 miles and rising!! Thanks
  21. After finding more fuel on top of the fuel filter housing I have now found the cause. After running the engine at idle and then turning it off I could hear a small syphon type sound coming from one of the hoses attached the to the top of the fuel filter housing. The metal pipe the hose goes onto is slightly corroded. When I squeezed the hose around the metal pipe the noise stopped. I think it basically means that top of the fuel filter housing needs replacing and the hose does as well. I could probably clean up the corroded part of the metal - but I fear the same would happen in months to come. Any idea of the cost of the fuel filter housing and hose for a BKD (2.0 TDI engine)?
  22. Yep its diesel - hands were covered in it afterwards. If I had just washed the car I would understand. Also it has just done 80 miles of dual carriageway driving in nice blue sky. I notice that the metal pipe from the top of one part of the filter going into a hose toward the front of the engine is slightly rusty looking. I am wondering if if could just be some corrosion causing the fuel to spray out on top of the housing? Anyway washed it, dried it and will now monitor - fingers are crossed. Thanks
  23. Hi All Just checked my oil and ending up mopping up diesel from the top of the fuel filter housing. Can't find any obvius signs of cracked or dameged hoses. Any other ideas? Have any of you experienced this? What is the best solution (replase all hoses and top of filter housing? Thanks
  24. Try wiperblades.co.uk The do Valeo, Bosh twin packs or their own stickered brand. I used the Bosh and they are the same as OEM and then the Trupart (their branded ones) Bit different but only £10 each. Used three times and very pleased.
  25. Sorry - thought it said on the left of the message - clearly not used to the new forum layout. Doh! Anyway its a 2l 140 TDI
