  1. Since the consensus was new base too, I went that route. Found someone breaking a newer vrs near me and snagged it for a fiver. This one is the right fitting and also is movable which is interesting. The new aerial I bought fits, after some...cutting. Now to install tomorrow assuming it doesn't rain.
  2. Hi, Mk1 Fabia - Aerial has always been bent from what I recall and it has finally been bugging me enough to change it. Everything I have seen has suggested that you unscrew and pull. Hard. Except mine just unscrews. I bought the shorter one with the code listed here and elsewhere on the forum: The problem is that the new aerial is a male connection, old is female. Why is mine totally different to everything else? Even on the workshop manuals site it shows it different to mine... http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/vehicle_electrics/electrical_system/infotainment/radio_systems_i/removing_and_installing_the_roof_aerial/roof_aerial_for_radio_and_mobile_phone/ Does the base screw come out? I can turn it with a spanner, just but it just spins... Or is it a whole new base? Thanks, Scott
  3. Appreciate all the help guys. Was something I wanted to tackle myself, but I decided that I needed the car complete sooner than I could do it myself. Goes in to the garage near work tomorrow. This way it is done in a day and not the longer time it would take me. A lack of daylight when not working and then poor weather when I can get daylight, just isn't worth the hassle for me.
  4. My carriers are bolted on, being a 2001 car. So if I understand that correctly, it is a whole new carrier? The regulator is attached to that? Any idea on a part number/cost? Seems like something I may be able to do with my limited knowledge/tools depending... I have most of the door card off, similar to the sealing threads. Is it just a case of levering/pulling the top off to take it off completely? Thanks for your help!
  5. Hi All, Today of all days, in this weather. Went into a car park, hit the wrong button to lower the window. Passenger one came down, with a loud noise. Stopped it and pressed up. This then made the glass fall down. Now when I try the window there is a horrible crunching sound that is rather worrying. Have managed to pull the glass up and it is intact, but an inch from the top and will not go any further. I have pulled the bottom of the door card away and had a look, but I think the issue is behind the carrier? I thought it was a broken motor but a little searching is leading me to think the regulator? Is this something I could change myself? Also, how can I get the whole door card off? Is it just a bit more forceful pulling at the top or is there more hidden securing points I am not aware of? Any ideas? Thanks, Scott
  6. Already full of other things. That was the one I saw. Also have seen some skoda ones on Ebay. Similar shape, slightly different material I think. Maybe from later skoda models?
  7. Realise that this may be best suited for a different thread depending, veering to a slightly different topic. I am pretty sure it is condensation. It doesn't leak. I suffered with it last year, and last saturday was the first day since last winter. Long journey. Two people in the car. Came back to it in the evening about 4 hours later and windows were fogged up. Turned the fans on, and AC. Windows clear, pull away and water drips down my face. Will have a look at the drainage areas anyway, when there is more light :p With regards to the front screen, I find I have to help the fans along a little. They get the lower third clear, then VERY SLOWLY do the last two. A quick wipe with a cloth helps. Though I know this is not a wise idea, as the window is not clean, it is better for me than waiting to clear it/driving half clear. I've done the "Oh it'll clear when I'm moving thing" and realised no...it's not a good idea, especially in the morning with low sun.
  8. Yeah, I think that is what I am looking for. Some right sized bag that will fit. Ideally i'd like a left and right, but they are different sizes, making things awkward. I like the idea of the boot net, a bit more useful than the elastic cord. Already enjoying the empty boot and being able to use the left and right tie downs to secure stuff. I like the idea, though there isn't a lot of vertical space if you want to keep the anchor points, or have them exposed by building around it. All that being said, I think I know the words I need to be searching for. "Oil Top Up Bag" First google result is a BMW one, for less than £5. Big enough for a bottle of oil, velcro backed. Perfect. Now, do I want to search for one with less obvious different branding or do I be lazy and look no further Off to google...
  9. So, as a fellow sufferer of the misty, slow to react screen...and the more pressing, and irritating condensation dripping sunroof. The solutions listed so far... - Pollen filter - Could do that. - Seal rear doors - Done. All put back together today actually. So may take a little time to see the results of this, if any. Was a slight leak for me that resulted in wet seals and water marks on the door but not much else. - Dehumidifier bags - Already got those. They help, but add any more than me and they really cannot cope at all. - Rain X Anti Fog. - I think I recall seeing my local asda selling a small Ran X AntiFog/Water repellant Pack. May look into that.
  10. Yes, I had those in a bag that took up the right side, and one of the reasons for removing it was that I wanted to use the anchoring points. I have those elastic cords on the left side, but couldn't use the other. Decided I wanted a completely clear space. Funnels/Diagnostic reader, and a couple of bags/fold out storage items under the boot carpet and wedged in the spare wheel well. Right now I have a small bottle of oil, and a refilled water bottle of coolant strapped in the left space. (Mine uses a little bit of oil, have to check it weekly. Coolant is far less, but still something to keep an eye on for me) After posting this, I had an idea. First Aid kits are typically about the right size, but having had a quick run around some shops today, they are all a little too small. I am sure that there is some kind of bag that will fit nicely in there and let it be used better for storage...
  11. Hi all, Having had my boot filled with a large "Organiser Bag" that I would store a small bottle of oil/screenwash/etc in, I have decided that I would like to have the boot floor clear. Some things have gone under the boot carpet, in the space around the spare, and just the bottles left at the minute. What I am looking for is storage options that will use the space on the sides of the boot. I know that there are OEM options that I have seen on here and I would love to have those, as would most people I imagine :p From what I can work out, they are rare/unavailable now. Are there any similar things that people have found, perhaps something simmilarly shaped that fits, or goes there? Also, I know I have seen a tray under the parcel shelf on here somewhere. At the minute I have nothing in the left/right spaces, besides the velcro strap on the left. I am considering fitting another to the other side, may be an option to hold a bag similar to the OEM ones. Thoughts/ideas welcome. Really don't want to use the typical bags that sit on the boot floor to hold stuff. Thanks Scott
  12. Not quite while driving, but the Penalty charge notice waiting for me when I got home. Partially in a Yellow box junction, from the middle of the rear door back. £130 wasted...well, £65 if I pay within 28 days. (That actually rather annoys me, just seems a way to get people to accept and pay up out of fear of the larger fee)
  13. I have had to deal with this twice. Once, an elderly relative called asking me about some company. She had allowed the remote control and had gone as far as giving them card details. Asked them to wait the weekend so she could check with me. Being aware of the scam I told her to inform her bank and to not listen to them at all if they called again. Bank said that they would't do anything until money moved from the account, which makes sense I guess but they were aware so would deal with it if it came up again. Nothing else came of that one. Second time was myself. Answered the phone at work to this crap. "Are you aware you have just called a business?" Dial tone follows...Wanted to string them along a bit but I don't have the time for that at work It is really frustrating to hearthat people are being caught out by this and that there is nothing to stop them :(
  14. Fitted a new passenger wing mirror glass. Now both mirrors heat up
  15. The Fiesta that came up behind me running on drls, in the dark. Obvious from the start that they were impatient and would overtake when they could (Residential with speedbumps/narrowing sections) In the end, overtook through the wrong side of a traffic island, over speed bumps at speed. Drove off, still no lights, and no indication of turning them on, further down the road.
  16. People stopping in stupid places this morning. Need to sort your sat nav? Sure, stop on the zig zags and block a bus lane right next to a width restriction. Genius. Need to post a letter? How about you stop at a red light, jump out and walk to the shop 6 doors down and post a letter. Nobody is moving, it's ok right?
  17. Hammersmith Bridge (A306). Terrible road surface. And when stopped and other vehicles move, especially busses, it wobbles and bounces. At least that is how it feels in the car. Just reopened a few weeks ago, after "emergency roadworks" You'd think that whatever those were, they would take the week that it was shut to at least look at the road...
  18. I have seen them a lot too. Was something I wondered about. With the way it is done, it could look at a glance like a police high vis. Wonder if for that reason it has an extra effect. I have a feeling it may do, if people are trying to work out whether it is a cop, they are at least paying attention to their surroundings a bit more What made me smile? Well it involves bikes. left a load of space next to a bus, and far enough back to let a bike filter through. Rider gave me a huge thumbs up. Little things :p
  19. Pedestrians having just gotten off a bus, who decide that the absolute best place to cross is either right behind it, or right in front of it. That's a surefire way to get yourself hit... Even worse when there is a crossing point a little way behind the bus, and a set of traffic lights in front. Just a short 2 minute walk to either. Instead they want to play chicken with traffic.
  20. As for the article. I would like to see these "Car drivers and bicycle riders" write articles that tell you the other side too. How about an equivalent from the other side? What should a bike do with regards to a car. It always seems to be biased to one side. While we are at it, how about every other form of veihicle. Id like to see what the thoughts of a trucker are with regards to what they want to see from other motorists. Etc. Etc. If we have only one perspective, how can we drive/ride better? With regards to the cameras people have now. They can be informative. I have watched some before now, and thought "Wow I have done that before now. That's bad..." and changed the way I drive as a result. They can be a good tool, if used correctly. But then I don't think a youtube channel that showed only good (read non eventful) driving wouldn't work, because where is the viewership? They certainly shouldnt be used to allow people to cause confrontations. Some people, in various forms of vehicle seem to think that they are protected by the camera and think it is fine to go and shout at someone and start a fight with someone that has done you wrong. That used to be called road rage didn't it?
  21. Before now I have used the words "I hate cyclists" I think even on this site. I have grown to not have that view any more. At least not in such a general sense. Living in London, daily, I see cyclists doing all kinds of things wrong. My biggest issue is running reds. I have nearly killed someone who ran a red on me. Had I not been slowing for the light that changed to green from red as I approached, and anticipated it changing. I'd have hit her, probably hurt her quite a bit if not killed her. Did she react? No. All I got was a confused look as she passed close in front of my car, while I was left rather shaken by it. But that is one extreme. I have seen equally worse from pedestrians and car drivers alike. Daily I see cars drifting between lanes. Leaving me wary to make progress, and I have only ever been scared driving once. In piccadilly circus, where I have never seen so many people trying to walk in front of a car it seemed... That being said, I have had a lot of positive experience with all drivers of every vehicle, but I think a part is that they do not stick in our minds, simply because they are not problematic, so don't generate as big a reaction out of us. I'm not a great driver. At most I'd say adequate. I have little experience, but I try to do it right. I'm pretty sure that I have generated some anger myself at some point. What I guess I mean is that we all see things differently. We all share the road, why should we fight over it?
  22. I am of the belief that these newer car lights are far too bright. Blinded when they brake, blinded when they are behind you and the stupid super bright zenons or whatever they are that always seem to be pointed to my mirrors... What annoyed me this morning? People slowing to 10mph below the speed limit to go through a camera. Im doing 50 (indicated - meaning less than that) and you brake in front of me down to 40 for a speed camera at 50? Really?
  23. A general lack of lane discipline this morning. Things like indicating after half of your car has already moved into my lane. If they indicate at all. Worst of all was the hyundai police car that was too close to the white line. To the point that I was wary of over taking. Once I passed them they drifted across it into my lane, before correcting and centring themselves... If it was reversed, I'd be getting pulled over at a minimum.
  24. Yes! My american host had to keep telling me it was my go, I had right of way because I was there first. I was quite surprised as well to see how subtly marked some of the cars were. If you weren't paying attention then you could very easily miss them. Which I guess is the point. No comparison to the fluorescent yellow and blue stickers we see here
  25. I answer the phone to something along the lines of: "hello, I am from Windows. Are you aware that your pc has been sending us error and warning messages for the past 1-2 weeks?" "Are you aware that you have called a business?" "Mumble... Dial tone" What annoyed me? (besides the obvious) I'm the only one answering the phone at the moment, and I have things to do, instead of keeping them on the line and stopping them pulling this crap with someone else. I really hate this. I had anan older relative who fell foul of this. Called me up after giving a card number and then asking if they would give her a couple days to think about it. My response was call your bank and warn them...
