VAG returns ABS sensors errors G251 & G200
tatrabanka replied to tatrabanka's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
good point! it was listen on eBay and i was told it would not pass MOT but was reassured and drives fine. that small dealership is also garage and they do MOTs there. (but because they 'forgot' to disclose me 1 break has pads won to estimated 90% and sticky calliper, i am not going back to them, unless to cause something...) also, other garage i had it diagnosed this Saturday where it failed MOT, didn't keep the car in, so i assume flawed ABS is not serious enough. am i wrong? -
my and garage's VAG returns ABS sensors errors G251 & G200, and garage wants to replace both sensors FIRST, before attempting to replace entire ABS unit. replacing ABS unit was recommended to me by 3rd party dealership, which sold me the car with this known faults. so i sourced ABS unit myself from a breaker and now it seems i may be waste of my time and money. what do you think? is garage right in their judgement? or at least, how likely are they to be right, if it cannot be known at this stage right now? (they quoted me 2h labour for sensors alone and another 2h for ABS module. adding cost of (aftermarket) sensors and genuine (used) ABS module, it will cost me as much as i paid for car alone!) can anyone do it for me this week in London? if so, what's your quote please? thanks!

VAG COM Ebay vs Ross Tech
tatrabanka replied to abhijeetbarad's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
i think people (especially IT-uneducated mechanics) here should realise that, pretty much every software can be reverse-engineered and in really it is rather matter of time when it happens. Ross' cables may well have been sold cheaply by their very own China supplier... China doesn't care about patent law. i'm aware of at least 1 business, who decided not to patent their niche product for the fact they would have to make details public and fear of China manufacturing it cheaply... also, they seem to be stuck in 90s as we have mobile devices nowadays and even USB hubs for them! why on earth would i want to drag my laptop to car if i could plug my phone via cable and do analysis in they app connected to their cloud? if Ross' business model is based on expensive wires coated in plastic and desktop software flawed to theft, then it SHOULD be destined to extinction! i think those americans would be far better of, if they released cable and deprecated this old software, but instead worked on cloud solution based on subscription model! it would be far more fair for low-users who rarely need it while pros could pay rolling subscription. [i expect now all the mechanics to stone me to death for this ] -
