  1. I've have now accepted a low offer from a trader and typically had 2 calls today asking to view the car from private buyers locally. The trader hasn't paid any deposit and isn't coming to collect until a week on Monday. I'm torn as to whether I should let the private buyers view. I don't want to gazump the trader but on the other hand they are offering about £750 less than I could get. Where do I stand legally, I'm pretty sure that if I didn't pay a deposit to a trader he could sell the car under me.Thoughts please.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I've renewed the ad on autotrader but coming to the conclusion that I may have to accept a lot lower price or bide my time. I guess people want ease of purchase and that comes through a dealer not a private sale. In no rush yet luckily so will hold out for a while longer.
  3. I honestly thought I would have had some interest by now but so far only 2 people have contacted me and both seem to be a waste of time. I have lowered the price from what I think was already low but would appreciate feedback on this. The photos could probably be better but it has been constant rain since I took the last ones. Any other ideas why it has had no interest?
  4. I am selling my 2015 Skoda Octavia Mk3 Estate TDi VRS in metallic grey. It has covered just under 22500 miles and was first registered in march 2015. The car has all the usual VRS features and I added a tow bar (removable) and side air bag curtain as extras. The car had its second service in December and new front tyres 2 weeks ago. The rear tyres still have about 4mm+ on them. The car still has 14 months warranty and is in very good condition. You'd struggle to find a cheaper car of the same age/spec. Reason for sale is we want to release the equity in it and so have taken out a PCH on a Superb Estate Se Technology. I am looking for £15250. This is £1000 less than I originally had it on for and £1500 less than the next similar car on Autotrader. The car can be seen near Ilminster, somerset. UPDATE: Autotrader advert here. With lots more photos.
  5. Don't know what they did but the service indicator went away. I will probably have to call them.
  6. Car was serviced in March this year. Warning has just come on for oil change in 1400 miles. This will likely be next months so is 6 months and 7000 miles normal between oil changes?
  7. 1. Did this, and ended up arguing. Calmed down and moved on to step 2. 2. Plan was to reverse off drive, in reality reversed into car. Definitely a negative difference. 3. The reason for the difference was, previous year was largely frost free, warm (therefore no steaming up mirror) and the 2 days before there was no car behind. Looking at a simple equation taking the probabilities of each occurrence happening, factoring in a risk percentage against this, offsetting this against the frequency rate of the same occurrence over the last year for the same situation and the root cause comes out as......... my wife. 4. The learning point is clear. cost whether it would be cheaper to hire a professional driver for the occasions my wife does drive against the expected cost of repairs from her driving misadventures. Anyone know a reasonably priced per job driver in the South West?
  8. I read that on another thread, I think you can do it with the engine off (after the grief I have been giving my better half she would probably "accidentally" take her foot off the clutch while I was listening!). Had a quick go earlier but couldn't hear anything from any of them.
  9. I like that idea, the problem is I would have to look after the kids.... .... or sell with the kids for a bit more money and use the profit to go on holiday.
  10. I know it sounds like one of those "my friend has a problem" stories but it was actually the Wife's fault not mine! First frost of the year and she decides to not defrost the rear window or wipe the mist off the rear view mirror, ignore the fact she has seen my car behind her and then ignore the reverse sensor beeps before reversing into my run around at speed. Apparently it's sort of my fault because my car wasn't there the day before, work that one out! Anyway, long story off my chest, there is some cosmetic damage to the bumper and reflector strips but also physical damage to the reversing sensor system. I have looked up into the bumper and the sensor is still in place but I can't tell if the connection to the main loom is in tact. Certainly a small piece of broken off red opaque plastic fell down with a broken tie wrap. There is also a loose "clip?" can' really tell what it is but may just be to hold the loom to the bumper. When putting the car into reverse, it beeps for a couple of seconds then stops; and that is it. Out of reverse and back into reverse it does nothing and the sensors do not register anything. If you stop the car and start it again you get the same 2 second beep then nothing when selecting reverse. Also the car settings has "function not available" for parking aids. As we have just bought a house we have no money for expensive repairs, does anyone have any knowledge of this problem, is it a simple sensor failure (one of them was directly impacted) and if so how easy is it to replace myself. I can live with the cosmetic (minor) damage but without the sensors, the likelihood of her in doors doing more damage in a reversing situation has now exponentially increase hugely. Any help and advice welcome.
  11. Sadly I think you're right. A buyer would still get the same warranty as it has the manufacturers still in place but I can understand the security and finance point of view. Having said that, I didn't have any problem selling my 1 year old SMax a few years ago. No huge rush so will just have to wait it out and see what happens.
  12. Bit of advice if possible. I have had some interest but not as much as I had expected. Having compared to autotrader mine is the 4th cheapest with the others being higher mileage and older. Am I being unrealistic with the price? It is set with negotiating in mind but the offers have been just too low so far. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201510117717926?body-type=estate&postcode=ba228wj&maximum-mileage=up_to_40000_miles&fuel-type=diesel&search-target=usedcars&make=skoda&transmission=manual&engine-size-cars=2l_to_2-5l&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&sort=default&model=octavia&maximum-age=up_to_2_years_old&page=1&radius=1500&zero-to-60=fast&logcode=p
  13. I could see how that would be an expensive car!! Title changed.
