  1. Would it be rude to ask how much you've been offered?
  2. I have just used a company in Keynsham to regass my AMG Merc and they only charged me £30(cash,or £30+vat otherwise) to do it and all seemed fine afterwards. If it is just a regass that is needed, and refrigeration place can do it though. The company i used was called KOOL-CAR and they were at Unit 18,Lays Business Centre,Charlton Rd,Keynsham.BS31 2SE. The guy that done it was called Nathan.
  3. Great,cheers.....................i phoned Venom and Rimstyle and they could only supply them in pairs, which is fine but when people on here are saying there is no point changing the front one it seems pointless doing it. Unfortunately i cannot get the car until next week now though:mad:,but will be in touch as soon as i know i have bought it (200 miles away and i need to see it before i commit to buying anything for it). Sarah,i am also going to be looking for a set of coilovers for it if you can let me know what sort of price some will be?
  4. I am on the verge of buying an Octavia VRS and having looked on here for decent mods,i am convinced i want a Eibach Rear Antiroll Bar,the thing is i have been told its not really worth fitting a front one as the car already has it,but the couple of companies i have phoned only sell them as a pair. Where can i just get a rear Eibach one?
  5. Nor was i believe it or not:rolleyes:....................i was suggesting that sellers choose to look at the top price they can find for a similar car and think they will get that for theirs, irrelevent whether it is a dealer asking that or not, just because theirs has a warranty left on it................to me at least, their has to be an incentive to buy the car privately over going to a dealer, and that incentive is that it's cheaper by a decent amount,so if a dealer wants circa 11k for a car, someone asking circa 10.5k for theirs privately just isn't going to sell it,theirs would need to be circa 9.5k (certainly advertised under 10k) to get it sold!!
  6. Those new style Golf GTI wheels look pretty good from the small pic,but you cannot get them in 19's can you? I was also looking at the Gallardo style wheels, but not sure what they would look like!!
  7. Have you got any other pics of these on the car................side on maybe, because there are some of these doing the rounds on ebay at the mo and i did think they look a little bit similar to the original wheels, just with a couple more spokes?
  8. Must admit,i have seen these in 19's on silver VRS's and i didn't rate them, but against the black they do look good........................plus MSW have a 10% discount on at the moment on O.Z wheels!!
  9. Agreed,i had it this week with a VW dealer i was trying to buy a Beetle Cab from for the wife...............i offered him £500 less than it was up for for cash with no p/ex and he wasn't interested, but told me i could have it on 0% Finance over 3 years which would "save" me £400 .......................i declined!!
  10. Common sense does come into it,the point was that a dealer HAS to do a lot more to the car if it needs to be done...................most people asking over optimistic prices privately won't then negotiate for things that need to be done/replaced,in which case,if you can buy a similar car at a dealer,it makes sense. The problem is,most people selling a second hand car, especially a nearly new one, want top money for it as they do not want to accept it has lost so much money in a relatively short space of time and are just hoping someone comes along that knows very little and accepts their valuation of it..................saying they paid £18,000 for something a year or 18 months ago and assuring the buyer they must be getting a bargain because now they "only" want £11,000 for it doesn't make a bargain,it just highlights,to me at least, how much new cars lose in value!!
  11. Cheers mate, your was the car i was on about. This is why i wanted some pics for inspiration,as to be honest,i have never liked the RS8's on anything apart from maybe the New Beetle, but they do look good on an Octy!! Keep the pics coming though
  12. I want 19's because i like them and how they look on a car...................the 19's i had on my Leon in particular (o.z)were also lighter than the standard 18's,thus reducing the unsprung weight and transforming the handling/steering feel completely (i had an Ariel Atom when i had the Leon, and this taught me a huge amount about how weight in all areas of a car, affect performance/handling/braking). While i accept some replica wheels are very poor quality,i personally have never had ANY wheel buckle on any of the cars i have owned, and each car has had different things done for different uses, but if you were inclined to drive through potholes,i am sure even the OEM wheels would buckle at some point. As for the brakes and suspension, these are all in the pipeline as i will be buying some decent discs and pads for it,putting on a set of coilovers and doing the antiroll bar. The remap though has already been done:),as has the exhaust and diverter valve!!
  13. The advantage,IMO is that the car will have been checked through their workshop, they have criteria a car must pass before it is sold (i.e if tyres are under a certain tread depth, brakes low etc),also,if the car is going to be due a service this would be done,so it is a little short sighted to say there is NO benefit, plus if there is a problem you can reject the car within 30 days.................you cannot do this privately!! Don't get me wrong, most of the cars i buy are bought privately, but i also recognise that the best deal is not always the cheapest. As with anything, whether you buy from a dealer, privately or from an auction the price has to be right at that time and if the difference is only a couple of hundred pounds the peace of mind is worth that. Arguing that the car is still under warranty anyway is fine, but that does not mean a car being sold privately is worth what a dealer would ask for it. Be realistic on the price and the car will sell,if it doesn't,and the car is "mint" or "immaculate" then unfortunately................it's overpriced!!
  14. By the same token though, some seem realistic with the price of their cars compared with the over optimistic prices people are asking privately,as there is a main dealer in Cornwall currently advertising good spec cars ranging from £10995 for a 2007 '07 (albeit with 40k),a 2006 '56 with 11k for £11695 and a diesel with 7k on a '56 for £13495,and i am absolutely positive that there would be cash off those prices.Compare that with circa £11000 people want privately and it stops making sense buying privately. While i haven't tried Skoda dealers for a discount,i have been in the position the last couple of weeks to try VW dealers and they will not budge atall,as i have tried with 2 different dealers to get £500 off for a cash sale with no part ex and have been refused...............clearly all this doom and gloom in the current market is not affecting them??
  15. It was more some pics of your cars i wanted with different wheels on to try and get some inspiration for when i (hopefully) get mine. I have had a couple of sets of RS6's on different cars and they seem to look stunning on anything, but i would like something different this time. I also had a set of O.Z Superleggara's on a Leon Cupra R,and while they looked lovely on that,i am not so sure a set would look so good on an Octavia? I am absolutely rubbish with computers and technical stuff in general,so if anyone can do a photoshop thing for me of a Black VRS with a set of 19" BBS CH's on it i would appreciate it,as i am swaying towards these, despite the cost!
  16. Has anyone got any pics of their cars they could post (Black VRS's if possible) with different wheels on them,as i can normally picture in my head what wheels would look good on my cars, but for some reason i am struggling for inspiration with the VRS (i am hopefully buying!!). If your car is lowered, all the better as if i do buy the car it is getting some FK's on it asap!! I did see someone on here say they had 20's on theirs..................surely,although i am sure it looks stunning, they are an inch too far and must rub like F**K?
  17. Thanks for all the help guys!! What about up front......................is there much benefit to doing the Front ARB and Front Strut Brace or is the Rear one the best mod?
  18. Cheers people, Is it much of a job to fit one? Does it use original mounts etc that are already on the car?
  19. Just seen a thread on here about a Rear ARB (Whiteline).....................does anyone know where i will be able to get one if i buy the car and how much it will cost?
  20. I am very close to buying an Octavia VRS,and wondered how i can improve the handling,as i drove one a couple of years ago with very few miles on it,and it felt very soft. I was thinking along the line of a set of FK Coilovers so i can get it sitting how i want it,but wondered if this was the best route to go initially,or if i would be better starting with some other mods?
  21. Getting seriously tempted to but a MK2 Octavia VRS Estate i have seen fro sensible money but i want to know how re-mappable the TFSI engine is i.e.what sort of BHP/lb/ft increases i can expect and if there are noticeable "driving"gains. Also,is anyone (Eibach in particular)doing any springs yet for the Estate(don't know if they would be different to the hatch)? Got my eye on some wheels for it,but need the important questions answered first!!
  22. You should try just putting it on the website on Autotrader,as it only costs £16.99 for 2 weeks advertising, and imo is the best option. I run 3 vehicles at a time normally,so usually have one up for sale and am always looking for another car,and whenever i have advertised on the A/T website have had a good response and have always sold my cars within the 2 week period........................for the price it has to be worth a try!! Just remember,to sell yours or at least make it stand out among all the other ads, price it a bit lower than the equivelent cheapest car(even by £100)and be prepared to listen to anyone making a genuine offer.................if you get lots of interest, you can afford to hang out for your prefered price, but if you have little interest and then someone makes an offer, you have to be realistic, and again, imho,it's getting close to christmas,so people tend not to be buying cars, and won't until February normally,so if you want to sell in the next 3 months you need to get a move on:thumbup:
  23. In response to Ebay.i have previously sold 3 cars a van and had my minibus on there. The cars have been a modified Smart Fourtwo(£4600,which was virtually what i paid for the car and the cost of most of the mods, and i ran it for 10 months),a Golf GT TDI150(£10,200,when i had only paid £9500 8 months previously, but it was low mileage and had a massive spec including leather etc) and a Lotus Elise(£8600,which is what i had paid for it 6 weeks earlier, but i lost the £400 i had spent on the clutch),all have been listed as with all my auctions with a £1 start and no reserve, and all have gone on to make what i wanted, and in the case of the Golf, more than i had paid for it 8 months previously. In my experience with Ebay, you always get a good response and if you let the bidders decide what it is worth,it tends to make as near as dammit "market value",and that is the best anyone can expect. As for Autotrader,i have always sold any cars i have had on there within 2 weeks of advertising, because i except what a lot of people don't,and if i have no calls/interest(genuine),then i will reduce it until i get calls and interest.I had a modified Leon Cupra R last year that would not sell at the £12,795ono i was advertising it at,and as long as i got circa £12k for it i was happy,so i reduced it to £12,195ono,sold it straight away for £12,150!! Just be realistic and be open to listening to genuine offers.
  24. But the point is,you keep saying you have had no serious interest, and if the car is in the condition you say,it can only be the price that is stopping it sell, and that's not necesarily down to "book price",it is down to what other cars are advertised for and selling, and they can't all be rough!!
  25. I have to say,i would be genuinley interested in buying your car,and unlike the others you have had interested i have the cash here and would buy there and then if it is as described, but IMHO(and please don't take offence) you are a case in point, you have the car advertised everywhere you possibly could and yet no takers.....................your car does look very tidy, but in the current market it is overpriced for the mileage. If you do re-adjust the price let me know, and i would come and have a look if i have not found anything else by then .
