  1. I believe the Scout has the same multi-link suspension as seen on the vRS but it is also raised on softer springs. It certainly handles well and feels very smooth over the bumpy roads out my way. I am on winter tyres and its been warm (21 degrees last week) so they have been moving in corners, but I expect that. As already stated, Haldex oil change at 40k. As for problems with the 4x4 system, its a fairly simple idea with few mechanical parts compared to say the Subaru system. I spoke to a mate of mine who is incharge of the Coastguard fleet of vehicles as they have quite a few Yetis that are used on beaches and tracks. He said they had had no problems in the 3 years they have had them. That made me happy as i know they had had issues with their L200s.! Quick update on the MPG...my 1.8 petrol has settled out at 38.1 mpg over a thousand miles of mixed driving. A thousand miles since Tuesday!! Not bad going.lol
  2. Before I run back to the dealers shaking my fist, I thought I would ask you lot to see if i am now being paranoid. Right, on openning the bonnet of my 1.8 Scout, I hear a metallic knocking noise, and to me, its pretty loud. It's not the cam chain as the noise is coming from the top right, possibly front of the engine. If you look at the photo below I would say its coming roughly from where the TSI logo is or possibly forward of that. Removing the rubber cover reveals what looks like a fuel pump to me but its hard to locate the exact source of the noise.Any thoughts??
  3. looking at that G4 stuff it would take me many hours of application with that tiny pad, and many bottles as there is a lot of plastic on the Scout :(
  4. But it appears to be the 2.0, not the 1.8 that seems to have issues. I had already seen that before I bought mine, and looked at a lot of european forums, all of which cited the odd failure with the 1.8, mainly Pre 2010 models.
  5. I was a Subaru Outback driver until I hit 106k on the clock and decided to trade in. It was my winter/fishing car and I really do need 4wd and winter tyres as I live on a farm up an unclassified road that leads half way up a "hill" in the Scottish highlands. I also commute 60 miles a day on roads that would be classed as B roads in England I ended up with a 61 plate Scout as I could not find an Outback I liked with low mileage. (Not a fan of the newer shape, prefering the more rounded older shape that went out of production in 2009). I also do not like diesels having run a couple of "eco" diesels that returned nothing but trouble and MPGs way off their claimed figures. This is why I ended up with a 1.8 TSI. Love it so far. Only had it a couple of days but have put 500 miles on it with an average of 40mpg. Very chuffed at that. The Outback (2.5l) was around 30-32 mpg. Would I use it as a taxi? Not sure, but it would be more than capable of acting as one, with plenty of rear space as well as that extra height meaning its easy to get into.
  6. Another one? Does the 1.8 TSI have issues (looking worried as I have just bought one).
  7. I have picked up a second hand (61) Scout 1.8 and there are a few things I want to do to it just to spruce it up a bit. The main thing is to sort the smooth black plastic bumpers and arches. they are not too bad, but they are starting to fade a little, and the rear bumper has suffered lots of small scratches due to a dog. I have been looking at Black WOW restorer as it seems to get good write-ups, but I was wondering if any of you lot have used any particular products with good results? It seams the smooth plastic is harder to restore than the taxtured stuff. Typical!..lol Cheers in advance, Rob
