  1. The screw I used for earth is screwed upwards i.e. head facing the floor and is right next to the passenger door/dash trim. You probably need the stay unhooked to see it. There was no wire to it until I attached the lead to the nextbase adaptor. As to how the cable misses when the glove box shuts I don't remember.. but it was never a problem.
  2. I phoned Transcity Walthamstow yesterday to ask about the 'oil service' my dash is now asking for. I expected to be told £149 as mentioned in this thread only to be told 'we are in London so that doesn't apply to us. It will be £259 and we can fit you in in about 2 weeks time'. The independant I've always used for many years and I trust assures me them servicing it will not affect the warranty so I'm letting them do it tomorrow - for around half the cost. They will change it to variable from fixed too. I have checked and there are no recalls to be done that might have swayed the decision.
  3. I don't know the fuse number but the red 10A fuse I used gives no problems with start stop active. Seeing this thread bumped has reminded me I still have another camera for rear view sitting in its box. one day...
  4. Thanks again for the reassuring reply! I'll post pictures of my efforts when I do get on with it. probably at the weekend.
  5. My pry tools arrived today so I may have to face it soon. If as suggested earlier in post #3 there is ignition switched power to the rear wiper, why didn't you pick up power from there? I'm beginning to doubt finding power will be that easy.
  6. Thanks for the tips. At least when I'm cursing while trying to get the panel back on it I'll know it was to be expected and not down to my inexperience. From what was said previously in the thread I was expecting to find an ignition switched live going to the wiper motor so shouldn't need to feed anything through the rubber conduits - just tap off the switched live to the hardwire kit (via a low value fuse).
  7. I've ordered some plastic pry tools from ebay to help get the tailgate trim off without marking it. I've had the camera a couple of weeks waiting to get round to installing it so a few more days won't hurt. having watched a few youtube videos on removing VW rear trims it doesn't look too difficult but seems to always need a pry tool to get it started. I'm guessing the S3 will use similar snap fixings and there will be screws under these covers...
  8. I looked at the sill trim and saw that was possible but couldn't see how to get from there to the back. I assume you took the felt like trim to the boot side off - how does it release? And having got to the 12V socket area how do you get to the rear window so that the tailgate opens without cables flapping.. Sounds ideal if ignition switched power is present near the tailgate wiper. I've no idea how to remove the internal plastic door lining/ window surround. does it just prize/snap off?
  9. I have a front facing dashcam working fine and have bought a second to look backwards attached to the rear window. There is a 12V socket in the boot but as I have a hardwire kit I'd like ignition switched power and neat wiring. Any suggestions where to find it at the back of an estate? I couldn't see an easy way to route cables from the glove box fuses like the front camera uses - unless someone knows different. Thanks in advance
  10. There is a cover over the door lock keyhole. Once the cover is off you can use that mechanical key in it. If the key battery is dead you hold the key against the start button to start the car. Works like a dog chip reader apparently. All things I've read and not actually tried so I could be wrong
  11. I used ACC in a long traffic jam on the M25 the other day. First time I'd used it as traffic jam assist. It made my right ankle ache holding my foot poised above the brake pedal! After half an hour I was trusting it a bit more and spending more time with my foot resting on the floor but it is hard to just let the car drive itself towards the car in front and believe it will always stop it did make the jam more interesting though. Does anyone trust it completely now?
  12. I intended to replace the suction mount with a self adhesive one but in 2 months it hasn't fallen off so for now I've left the suction mount. It is still on the dotted shaded area of the screen and obviously holds fine. It is quite small maybe 1 1/4" diameter.
  13. Thanks. It's been a couple of months now. I've never had a dashcam before. So far I've not needed anything it has recorded and obviously hope it stays that way. Yesterday on a 2 lane dual carriageway I was about to move back into the inside lane when a car leisurely pulled out of a lay by in front of me (no indicator) and more importantly in front of the lorry I had just passed. I avoided it easily but the lorry had to emergency stop - all of which I watched in the rear view mirror. Made me wish I had a rear facing camera to record it. clip YouTube has knocked the quality a fair bit. So I may be looking at another camera fitting before too long.
  14. As far as I know it doesn't accept decimal degrees .You have to use minutes and seconds. Annoys me as I like using google maps to pinpoint where I want to go then just note the coordinates from the URL. I bookmarked this site to convert to fractional degrees - https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/dms-decimal As to negative it's either 360 - your negative value or select east instead of west (i think).
