  1. Thanks Rob. I'll have a play with it later on see what state it's in. Do you know if they work in tandem then or one is the master etc? Like if the rear is ok but the front is duff what feed back the sensor gets? Obviously having manipulated the front a lot already and no movement of the beams it could still be the sensor or the motor(s). Frustrating!
  2. Thanks for the pointers Gareth. Curious. The dipped beams don't come on at all without the ignition, just the side lights. Does that have any consequence? I think I know what you mean re obvious sweep up and down anyway, it's non existent! There was some suspension work done to the car just before I bought it which may well be linked to this problem. IMO the OS is dangerously low, makes me question the new mot it passed, again just before I bought it Anyways, sounds like a job for my lucky mechanic, think I'll give them a bell tomorrow and see if they know anything about auto-leveling. Thanks again
  3. Hi all. Any one have a photo of the rear level sensor for the xenon headlights? I don't think either of the headlights is auto levelling, and the OS is significantly lower than the NS. I had until today thought the Octavia only had the one sensor at the front, but believe there is one on the rear axle somewhere too? I had the headlights out at the weekend and a good play with the front sensor - which I think is duff, swings around aimlessly and noisily (coincidentally I think it is what is making the squeak I thought was the front suspension, so thats something!) and knocks off the front wishbone. All without any impact to beam level. So want to check the rear one too, before I suspect having to take it into my local garage to see what they think. Appreciate it could still be the motor(s) but the front sensor was so unconvincing I can't see how it could work! Any input welcome to try and narrow down the issue. Cheers
  4. What are these from?? Would be v tempted by extending bolsters for my lanky long legs
  5. Hi all As I've yet to buy a Haynes book was wondering if anyone can tell me how I can manually level up my offside xenon lamp to match the near side as I think the self levelling motor is stuffed. Having read through other posts that certainly sounds likely at least. Just need a stop gap until I get a new motor ordered (probably eBay? Anyone know the part number?) Cheers all!
  6. Head rest fixed. Cut up two sheets of perspex to fit tight between the bars and protect the leather. Then drove a wedge, well two actually to spread the pressure, between them. Took quite a lot of force actually but eventually it freed off and is now moving freely again. No sign of what was to blame, nothing bent or rusty etc. anyhow one thing ticked off! Was wet so didn't fool about too much with the squeak, but it's definitely not the radiator mount, so back to suspension suspicion!
  7. Yeah I'll toy with things one at a time see if I can at least narrow it down a bit for the noise. As for the headrest am planning to make up a tool to protect the seat and the plastic catches whilst exerting the most violence possible to get it to budge! I've seen a few photos now of folk who've had the seat covers off and it's still not obvious how the legs of the headrest could get stuck. Grr.
  8. All sound sensible ideas! I'll have a play under the bonnet later on, see if I can make any better diagnosis cheers all
  9. Yeah tried that with no luck. Although I think the function of the button should actually release only the last notch to remove the headrest? That's what the passenger side does anyway. There doesn't seem to be any other access into it or the seat
  10. Hi just picked up my 2003 Octavia laurin and klement estate last week, and has a few niggles to sort out - hoping someone can help! Firstly, the drivers seat head rest is jammed stuck at its lowest point. I tried a relative amount of violence today but no joy. Still tilts forward but won't move up. Anyone had this before? Other things to sort are a little squeak from the near side front, maybe a suspension bush or something. Need to find a rear parcel shelf, probably eBay but all look pretty mucky. And upgrade the stereo and possibly some speakers. I'l do some searching for all these, looks like a good knowledge base, but couldn't see anything for the headrest.
