  1. Thats great, thanks for confirming 👍
  2. Hi all, The HID bulbs on my 06 VRS estate are now developing pink eye and need to be replaced. I've had the car almost 10 years and not had to replace them, the bulbs have done well, but can anyone confirm that its a DS1 HID that I need? I've looked online and most sites say its a DS1 I need, but when I've gone to buy the compatibility charts dont show the Octavia VRS variant at all (maybe because they were an option?). I've always thought HID bulb types are simply compatible across the board as long as you get the right type, i.e. Ds1, or Ds3 etc. Are there any other parameters I need to be aware of? If anyone has any info on this that would be great. Cheers
  3. So, I have just managed to get some time to fix my rear washer pipe, I've got an estate so it wasn't quite the 20 min job I'd been lead to believe. Washer pipe was indeed partially disconnected when I got to it and it was clear that it had leaked over the wiring (I hadn't been using it but my wife borrowed the car the other day and used the rear wash so there was fresh water in the boot), why on earth Skoda thought it a good idea to put two main loom plugs for the boot electrics bundled in with the water pipe is beyond me! Pipe is fixed and secured, and whilst I was in there I dried up any dampness with microfibre cloths and then rebound bits of the loom where the factory webbing tape was sodden and coming away. I unplugged and checked the plugs whilst I was at it, then plugged it all back in, tested the washer, all working just fine.....Only issue is that by boot release button is now not working.....grrrrrrrrrrr! Other than unplugging the connectors I haven't disturbed anything else. It still works from the keyfob, just not the button itself. All other lights and electrics are working (other than the interior boot lights but they have never worked!). Any ideas?
  4. Hi all, My trusty '06 VRS estate has just been in for its MOT and service, I've had an engine management light on which I knew was the Evap valve needed replacing, however, when the garage checked the fault codes I also have one for a turbo issue. The code is P2261, the fault location description is 'Turbocharger (TC) bypass valve/supercharger bypass valve' the problem cause is 'Mechanical fault'. I know from the forums that the turbo bypass valve on the TFSi's is a known weak point, I'm hoping that the code and the fact it is specifically flagging the bypass valve means its not the turbo itself. Has anyone else had this specific code? I haven't noticed any discernible drop in performance, albeit the car might not be quite as responsive from low revs as it once was. No smoke and car seems to be fine on boost. All help much appreciated as always. Cheers
  5. Thanks everyone, really, really useful stuff, I appreciate your input. I am really not enamoured with a move over to diesel if I'm truly honest as the TFSI has been a hoot to use and I have not been particularly happy with diesels I've had in the past as second cars (the worst by far was a 2.0 SDI Golf.....dreadful beyond words!). The DPF issues that seem to be rife also play a big part in the decision making process in regards to the diesel as well. I will have to get the calculator out to do the longterm sums, but I think it seems that I may well be able to achieve high 30's even low 40's average on my drive if with the petrol, which is manageable from a cost perspective and certainly a lot better than I currently get! At the moment I think I'm willing to take the hit on the additional running costs to get a car I know I will be happier long term to drive. Lower running costs are always good as there is always money to spend elsewhere, but if I can stick with petrol I will. I'll drive both before making a final decision.....do people think that the tax bands for diesel will be adjusted in the coming years as oil burners are further ostracised ?
  6. Hi all. I'm looking to make the switch from my MKII VRS TFSI estate into a MKIII VRS estate sometime early next year so I just wanted to see what peoples experiences were with real world MPG figures for the MKIII VRS, both petrol and diesel as I am still undecided what to go for. For context, I now have a 34 mile round commute to work after a recent house move, with two long duel carriageway stints (hopefully DPF friendly if I go for the diesel). I also use the car for family holidays in the UK several times a year, annual milage is around the 10k mark. At the end of the day you dont own a VRS to sit watching MPG figures all day, however, running costs are still important long term. I appreciate the petrol is going to be less frugal than the diesel, and it costs more to tax, but is the TSI engine noticeably more efficient than the old TFSI engine in the MK II. I'd prefer to stay with the petrol if I can but the lower running costs of the diesel may well prove tempting as I will run this car (as I have with my current one) for at least 6 to 7 years. All advice is much appreciated.
