  1. Thanks for the advice. Surprised about the F1 AS3. I've been to Costco this morning and they have the pilot sport 4 on show and in the size I need they appear to have very good protection, but in several sizes they have absolutely no rim protection. Looks like 4 new Pilot Sport 4 are going to be fitted. Thanks
  2. My vRS estate still has the factory fitted Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT tyres, these have done almost 25k and the fronts have worn down to just over 2.0mm, the rears are 4.0mm. I have found these tyres provide very good grip levels on hot, dry days, pretty poor grip levels on wet days but worst of all they can be unpredictable on turn in. They do however provide excellent protection from the curbs when the wife parks and my Pictoris rims are currently unmarked. I have narrowed the replacement tyres to: 1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 2. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 3. Continental Sport Contact 5 4. Dunlop SportMaxx RT 2 My local independent tyre place recommended the Michelin as an excellent all round tyre but when I asked about rim protection he said that the Michelin and the Conti either have no, or offer very poor rim protection. The Goodyear F1 A3 rim protection is not as pronounced as the previous F1 A2 and if rim protection is the key factor then he would recommend the Dunlop RT 2. He did say that all these tyres are very close performance wise but the Conti is of an older generation. Does anyone have an experience of the F1 A3 or Dunlop RT 2? Thanks Jon
  3. Just had mine upgraded to v390 to fix a few niggles and known issues I've had. Such as: Bluetooth can not start GPS can not start DAB stops responding Sat Nav mutes audio but doesn't speak directions. Display issues. So far so good
  4. I booked my car (vrs estate registered July 2013, purchased Oct 2014) to the dealer because my boot has struggled twice when opening, and the headlight washers get stuck. They say the headlight washer problem is a known issue and will fix it but they have found nothing wrong with the boot struts or the way it operates. Mine look like the picture above and have twice struggled to open, making some funny noises in the process. Its only happened twice in the last 3 to 4 months, once when it was cold and once during last months heatwave! Anyone know what part # or date range is affected? They said something along the lines of the superb had known issues with electric struts but not on the mark 3 octavia. Thanks Jon
  5. I have the Columbus and dowloaded and updated the maps via the link in this forum. During my mini euro trip a couple of weeks ago the satnav, directions and traffic worked flawlessly. When I first picked up the car (2nd hand) I did a map update it appeared to be successful however the radio would mute but no directions were given. I returned home and did the update again and not had an issue since.
  6. The other night when I got home I noticed the car was doing a regen so I thought it would be rude not to take the car out for a drive and help finish the process. Twas a nice evening for a casual drive. 45 minutes and 60ish miles later I returned home. The mpg was down in the low 30s but the smile was set to max! I could smell the pain and punishment the brakes and tyres were subjected to. The funny elec diff is pretty impressive.
  7. Long term I've averaged 53.5mpg. My commute is mostly along the m27. Driving it hard along A roads high 40s low 50s is easy. With sensible driving abroad recently it did 580 miles on a tank with a reported range of 65 miles. Filling up I only managed to get 44 litres in and the car reported 59.something mpg. My driving style hasn't changed but for comparision my previous 2005 Seat Altea 2.0 TDi Sport (140bhp) with careful driving could not acheive much better than high 40s.
  8. I have had my 13 plate vRS Estate for almost 8 months and the car just keeps impressing me. Recently we have been on a family road trip from Southampton (via Dover) to Maarssenbroek, Netherlands. The car was rammed full, two small children in the back and the wife nag-i-gating up front. The trip was comfortably and the Columbus never put a foot wrong. The outside temperature while travelling hit a maximum of 35 deg C but the cabin was kept cool. My only complaint was after 4 hours of constant driving abroad my bottom was starting to go numb, the sunset glass doesn't offer the same level of sun protection as my previous Seat and my arm was a little toasty and candy white really shows up the insect remains stuck to the front! Most impressive was the fuel consumption. I filled the car up with BP Ultimate diesel at Dover and managed to do a whopping 580 miles, mostly motorway and always sticking to the speed limits. Returning to Dover, the car reported an average of 59.something mpg (since last fuelling) and having a range of 65 miles. I filled the car up again at the BP garage and only managed to get 44 litres (stopped after first click) This really is the best practical car I have owned and has to be the ultimate family car!
  9. I have a 13 plate TDi vRS with all factory options declared. 34, 13 years PNCD, parked on driveway. First at fault accident in Jan this year in the wife's car (£5.5k claim) Admiral charging £320. Admiral are cheap however they do not use genuine parts on cars over 3years old.
  10. It is dual zone however I have it set to single zone.
  11. Only had the car a few months and really loving it, great car let down by a few little niggles and rattles. When using the climate on auto to heat the cabin the warm air only seems to come out though my drivers side vent, possibly the passengers not 100% sure. However if I switch to manual warm air suddenly comes out of the centre vents! Change back to auto and back to just the drivers side vent. Is this normal or should I book it in for a dealer visit? The Car is a very early vRS used by Skoda Management. Its a 13 plate so still in warranty period. Thanks Jon
  12. Mine has had the following issues: No voice prompts while using sat nav, music mutes but no voice prompt even though volume was high. Next journey the voice prompts came back. Bluetooth would not connect to phone or tablet to play music but I could make and receive voice calls. Next day functionality came back. While in Netherlands on the morning I was due to drive home the Sat Nav would not work, some message about No valid navigation data found. Once I got to the port in Calais I found the option to reset the Navigation system. Once in Dover the Sat Nav worked! Only had the car just over a month but it still has almost 2 years warranty left so I am not too worried just yet.
