Took delivery of my L&K iv on Friday and generally pleased. However I am having some tech issues with the wireless CarPlay and Skoda Connect which others may have had and have managed to resolve:
Wireless CarPlay:
So I have a few issues here. Firstly it doesn’t always connect automatically. I find it helps if my phone is unlocked, which isn’t ideal if you want to just get in and drive off with your phone in your pocket. When it does connect it is very slow (responding to screen taps and loading apps), much slower than the USB CarPlay in my old Kodiaq. It also seems to disconnect randomly when performing certain activities such as voices searching for destinations on Apple Maps. This is particularly frustrating as sometimes it won’t connect again without turning off the car and restarting everything. It also seems quite glitchy, and I can’t get the Google Map apps to work at all, it’s just a white screen. All in all the system seems fairly lame and unfinished compared to the USB version. This is a shame as I was looking forward to being able to use it without the ‘hardship’ of plugging it in. In the car manual it mentions about connecting wireless CarPlay by either ‘using connection via WIFI from the Columbus’, or ‘connection via WIFI from a mobile device‘. I don’t really understand what this means but I wonder if I did it a different way if it may work more consistently?
Skoda Connect:
The issue here is I can’t ‘activate’ my car as it won’t let it register me as a ‘primary user‘. I easily get to the stage of having to press unlock on 2 keys which works, but I then after a 20 second loading screen get a message saying ‘unable to register, please contact customer services’ message. Anyone else has this and managed to resolve it themselves? The prospect of calling Skoda doesn’t fill me with glee.
Also, worthy of a mention is the map in the virtual **** pit occasionally just isn’t there, and requires restart of vehicle to appear.
In all, the car drives very well but the aforementioned tech seems a bit ropey, and not what you’d expect in a modern day vehicle where you expect things to just work! It turned my new-car-day into one more of frustration that satisfaction!
