  1. Hey guys, My vrs has been sat for the last 3 weeks with a flat battery, Battery changed this morning and started up and idled fine. Went to move off and engine started hunting/wouldn't rev over 1500rpm ish. Glow plug light came on and started flashing and so did the T/C light. Code reader showing P0726 Any one had anything similar? Video here : https://photos.app.goo.gl/8gYywmXukyaj6jRM8 Dan
  2. Well guys, bit of a update. Cars been flawless been serviced again and had another years ticket in January put on. I'm unfortunately having to put the Fabia up for sale. New house and new child and the Fabia is not big enough for me any more. I'm going to be posting up and for sale ad next day or two. I'm not wondering two far from a VRS tho.... Just a small upgrade to the fabia's bigger brother! Picking up a 2015 Mk3 Octavia Estate VRS 184 TDI with 42k on the clock on Thursday. Going to be a hell of a change from the little fab for sure!
  3. That sucks mate, flicker is another option! I use lightroom connected directly to it, makes life easy.
  4. Rear Brakes, Well the old girl had been suffering with sticking rear brakes, i took the calipers off and tried to free them up but they where just to rusty internally to save. The rebuild kits come in around 75% of the cost of a new caliper so no brainier to get new ones!. The drivers side rear wheel bearing was making a right old racket as well, so changed the lot. You can see where the calipers have been sticking, and boy it had been giving my mpg a good kicking! IMG_1621.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Crack the fluid lines. IMG_1623.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Drivers side hub nut off for hub/bearing assembly IMG_1625.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr It was well nackard, the side to side play in the bearing was amazing. Not bad for 128k as its original! IMG_1626.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1627.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Stub axle cleaned up. IMG_1628.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr New assembly, koyo made in uk to my shock! Not OEM but worth a punt at the price and they had good reviews! IMG_1629.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1630.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr One of the new calipers, shame as im unable at the moment to get hold of some more vrs green paint :( IMG_1631.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Off with the old! IMG_1632.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr If my magic, all back together! IMG_1636.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Got her bled up with the ezi-bleed and was all sorted. Went for a test drive and all was sorted, could not believe how loud that old bearing was. Must of been bad for a while!
  5. So got the old girl back from the body shop, the work is pretty much flawless apart from drivers side rear quarter which has more orange peal than a orange. Spoke to the lad and its going to go back and get some wet sanding to sort it out. So gave it was and a polish and here are the finished results. I'm well chuffed. Ill let the pictures do the talking! IMG_1603.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1604.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1605.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1606.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1607.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1608.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1609.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1610.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr You can see the stonechip layer that's been put on for extra protection. Not OEM i know but i don't want the same to happen again. IMG_1613.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1614.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr This could be my last update for a while, as i'm starting a new job, bought a house but it doesn't have a garage :( and my first child due Oct 17! Will still update when i work on her
  6. Rusty Sills So the rust on the sills was really starting to take hold and let the car down so she is in the body shop. Here is whats getting fixed. IMG_1591.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1592.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1594.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1595.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1596.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1597.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So got it dropped off at the body shop and they have had a couple of days on it so far. 20170524_123846.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr 20170524_123815.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr 20170524_123754.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr 20170524_123747.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr 20170524_123743.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr 20170524_123737.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So she getting ground back to good metal then new stonechip and paint. Glad i got this sorted going by how bad the tin worm had worked in behind the bumper!
  7. New Euro car parts radiator! IMG_1580.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Back together at last IMG_1584.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1585.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1587.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr As i know alot you like tools, i picked up this 50kg beauty for a bargain tenner!. IMG_1589.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1590.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Bit over kill i know!
  8. So this happened IMG_1502.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1505.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Radiator decided to no longer hold coolant! So got the old VRS in the garage and started the fun job of changing the radiator! Start of the process! IMG_1506.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Getting close IMG_1514.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Get the radiator out to be greated by a right mess of broken wires / poor previous repairs! IMG_1516.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1517.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1518.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1523.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Starting to get a good collection of parts from this job! IMG_1524.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr More broken wires found IMG_1526.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1533.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1540.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Start of the repair process! IMG_1545.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Correctly soldiered and heat shrinked. IMG_1549.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1554.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr All wires re wrapped with decent loom tape, hopefully protect them for years to come! IMG_1556.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1559.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1560.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1561.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1562.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr While the radiator was out i decided to give the bay a jetwash and jetwash the waterways / pipework out. IMG_1568.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1569.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1575.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr New Euro car parts radiator! y, on Flickr
  9. TPS will most likely have one on the shelf.
  10. I'm guessing lofty is crushed under a lemon vrs, going by the lack of updates!
  11. I'm sure that's not going to go anywhere, but boy that looks sketchy!! I hate having cars on 4 x axle stands as it is. Bet that it was at some crazy ass angles on the way up Should make for some good access tho
  12. Would probably stick to the trusted 312mm upgrade, guaranteed no problems then
  13. I was expecting a fight, was very surprised when 3 of them undid with little effort. The number 2 plug how ever came out screaming and tight all the way till the end. Was a touching cloth moment! Nightmare when they break off, glad I've not had one happen to me!
  14. Glow Plug Change. Typical gets to spring and one of the glow plugs decides to die So the EML pops up! IMG_1393.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1395.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Code is Cylinder 4 glowplug failed. So i nipped to ECP and picked up 4 new Bosch ones, no point in just changing one! IMG_1377.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So first pry the harness off the plugs. IMG_1375.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Choose your favorite 10mm Deep socket. IMG_1376.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Lucky for me these wernt original, so they came out with ease. IMG_1380.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr They where Lucas LP043 plugs, not original from the factory. IMG_1390.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Re-installation is as simple, just dab of cooper grease on the threads and scew in and tighten to 15nm IMG_1386.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1387.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1389.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr All 4 installed to spec. IMG_1391.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Reinstalled the harness then set about cleaning some of the oily mess that had accumulated over the years. Used some 151 Elbow Grease degreaser from the trust pound shop, works a treat! Quick blast with the jetwash and a wipe over with some AF Revive. IMG_1399.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1398.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Then used the Torque app to clear the code! IMG_1396.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr All Sorted
  15. Fixing some little nags. So went and picked some parts up from a local lad who was breaking some VRS's and grabbed a few items. IMG_1353.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1354.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr My old gearstick middle was past its best i had a broken vent and my wiper arm was all bent out of shape and i had a headlight cover missing! IMG_1357.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1358.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1359.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So swapped the gearstick over. IMG_1360.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr The little touches make all the difference. IMG_1363.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Installed the vent and the headlight cover. IMG_1365.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1366.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Wiper arm was more of a fight, i had to get all cave man on it. IMG_1367.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Air hammer FTW IMG_1368.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1369.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Super seized on the splines. Didnt get any pictures of the new one as my camera died, but its just a wiper
  16. Nice shafts Bet you had fun with all those cv band clips. They take some crimping force! Had to use the vice to pinch mine up tight!
  17. So got the car in on ramps. IMG_1340.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1342.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1342.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Starting to get it bolted on, with new grade 8.8 hardware and new ubolts IMG_1349.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1350.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1352.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr The finshed artical. IMG_1351.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Will get some more shots when i get the car outside. Went for a quick test drive and wow realy transforms the car. Cant wait for the weather to improve so i can get some use out of it!
  18. RARB assembly and installation. Gave the polybush the best clean i could but this was the best i could get them. IMG_1329.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So got the bushes reinstalled with the use of the vice and some sockets. IMG_1330.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1331.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1332.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Ready for the metal bushes. IMG_1333.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Apply grease and reinstall. IMG_1335.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Sorted. IMG_1339.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr
  19. So i managed to pick up a Whiteline RARB local to me for an absolute steel of £40, how ever it wasn't looking the best! Just a bit on the rusty side! lol IMG_0961.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0962.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0963.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0964.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0965.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Start of disassembly IMG_0969.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0970.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0972.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr The bar given a good going over with the wire wheel. IMG_0973.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Decided on giving this a go! IMG_0975.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Have a feeling its going to get messy! IMG_0977.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Yup correct! IMG_0983.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr After 24hours and a quick jet wash! IMG_0985.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0987.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0989.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr To get a good finish i decided to dissemble the bushings, wish i had sorted this at the start. My press tool! IMG_0991.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0992.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Glad i pulled them apart! IMG_0993.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0996.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Looked at getting a replacement bush kit from Whiteline and they wanted nearly £40 for a new fitting kit, so they are getting cleaned up! Back on the rust removal gel it is. IMG_1004.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1006.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Yet again it was left for a few days then jetwashed off. It removed 90% of the rust and the remaining wire wheeled off IMG_1014.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Came up a lot nicer than i was expecting. Setup for painting. IMG_1016.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Gone for a hammer finish this time! IMG_1017.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr and if by magic, IMG_1327.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_1328.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr
  20. So this is abit of a mixed update. Started off by getting my self a new tool. IMG_0944.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr A Karcher K2 Car, going to be help full in cleaning the car and various car related parts I Decided to give the interior a good clean, and ended up pulling the seats out as i couldn't get down the side with the hoover! IMG_0945.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr The problems of having a dog :( IMG_0946.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0947.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0948.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So given a good go over with the pet hair brush and lots of hoovering. IMG_0949.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0950.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Looking pretty empty. IMG_0953.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0954.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Whole interior given a good hoover and a good clean. Didn't get any photo's of the finished article due my camera battery running out :(
  21. That engine is a work of art, outstanding mate. I need to up my standards on my build haha!
  22. Awesome work buddy! Braver man than me having that gearbox in the house, my wife would be on the warpath! The dishwasher makes a good parts washer tho, just don't tell her
  23. Yer, will keep an eye on the paper gasket! Engine Management Light - The Fix. IMG_0589.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So after a lot of research i dragged my computer down to the garage, got the car pulled in hooked up via a cheap Chinese MPPS cable! IMG_0595.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0610.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Fired up the MPPS software and it connected right away. IMG_0597.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Downloading a copy of the cars map. IMG_0600.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Little bit sketchy i know! IMG_0601.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Once it had finished downloading the map, i set about editing the EGR codeblock. IMG_0602.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr The theory here is to flatten the block so the ECU is not longer requiring the air flow that the EGR would have been adding. IMG_0604.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Once that was sorted, you save the map ready for re-flashing to the car..... The scary, no going back question! IMG_0606.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Followed by 3mins of terror, hoping not to brick the ECU! IMG_0608.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Pleased to report that the flash went fine and the car jumped to life! Last job was to clear the DTC code for the EGR via VCDS. IMG_0612.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr With the fault cleared, it was time for a test drive! Im very pleased to report that after 20miles the EML has not returned! So bit of DIY mapping success!
  24. Seen the flaming of the inlet on youtube, works a absolute treat! Update. So the EGR blanking plates finally got delivered, some nice 3mm think ones with new gaskets. IMG_0565.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Blanking the manifold end. IMG_0567.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0568.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Then the EGR End. Had to use new M6 bolts with some extra nuts and spacers to take the slack. IMG_0571.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr IMG_0572.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Next up was replace the Inlet manifold, new genuine gasket used. IMG_0579.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Installed, looking alot cleaner! IMG_0583.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Next up turbo intake pipe. IMG_0585.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Had to use a jubilee clip instead of the spring clip as it was in a nightmare location! Installed. IMG_0587.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Got all the EGR and ASV bolted back on and the boot pipes reinstalled. IMG_0588.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Next up was just the quick job of putting the driveshaft back in. First off get the driveshaft back in the hub and re tighten the lower wishbone bolts. IMG_0573.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr New nut a must. IMG_0576.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Tightened to 70NM then 45 degrees = tight! IMG_0577.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr Jack up lower arm to enable you to install the remaining 6 spline bolts dune up and torqued to spec. Finished, no more nackard CV Boot. IMG_0578.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr So got the engine undertray back on and topped the fluids back up and went for a drive! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! So much more responsive and feels so much smoother! How ever as expected, the EML is now on in the dash. Will be sorting that in the next update!
  25. Its 6 x 6mm bolts. Nothing much to the job, Take it you have removed the EGR?
