  1. Well, I bought some car plan black trim wax. I cleaned the yeti, dried it and applied the wax to the sills. It wiped on nicely then before my eyes the wax covering the mucky stripes just parted leaving the mucky stripes visible. I got a toothbrush and tried lots of cleaning materials.... Detergent, meths, paraffin... No joy but it did shift to say me extent with vinegar. That done I re-applied the wax.... It took two coats but it covers up the muck a treat. Then I did the rear bumper ...then I did the front...It looks great. Only problem now is that the roof bars are looking a bit faded......I've nearly used the whole bottle but you can't moan for six quid. Only now to see how long it lasts...before it needs doing again.   2. Oh my... And there is a ferry to Stavanger that sails from just up the road from me..... I feel a plan coming on. I take it that the tunnel is single track..... How far apart are the passing places? J

  4. Just thought I would share my findings when I coincidentally put the Yeti through most of the hard passes in the lakes within an hour.... Over Kirkstone Pass and down 'The Struggle' to Ambleside (140TDI so aware of the brakes here ...but used hill descent and it worked a treat...) then over Wrynose and finally Hardknott....then normalish roads to my destination. Yeti was a total treat. In the shallower descent sections from Hardknott where you get a good long view it was tons of fun. In the winding steeper descents the hill descent function just took all the hard work out of it.... Yeti didn't miss a beat or missplace a wheel even by a millimetre....in awe of the unassuming little monster. Just thought I'd share. Cheers J
  5. Hi Guys, Gave the old girl a clean. She came up a treat... Apart from an unsightly stripe of grime down the sill between the front and rear doors... Obviously where all the mucky water runs down. Scrubbed with detergent... Still there. Polished with 'back to black'...still there after a day or so. Hm m. Even wondered about some silvery sill mouldings from superskoda...but they don't cover it..in fact I the pic that they have of a red pre facelift they have on their site you can see the same mucky strip. Any thoughts? Cheers J
  6. Hi, I bought some led bulbs for my old mitsi interior lights and boy are they good. Been resisting the temptation of tinkering with the yeti but now thinking I may just try this. Any problems with canbus type thing with interior lights. If so then it's a no-go. Not going to meddle around with ballast resistors and the like. Cheers J

    I think all things being equal you would get a 170. However if that isn't an option the 140 isn't the dreadful underpowered lemon that it's being hinted at here. J

    Hi, Depends on what you want and your driving needs. I drive my 140 4x4 elegance daily to work through twisty B roads with a bit of three lane A-road at the end and it's more fun and feels more 'appropriate' than my wife's 170 passat cc GT DSG. It will hunker down nicely as you power out of bends, stick to road like glue and generally make a dull journey an event.....But on long journeys the cc has the edge.... Gearing, power curve shape and less transmission drag and perhaps lighter than the 4x4 yeti (not checked). But saying that if conditions are poor and we have a long journey then the yeti gets the gig. .. It will get you there... Pretty much always .. I like that. Actually on those long journeys where we use the yeti (and that's four-up plus luggage) I am not overly aware of the yetis comparative lack of legs to be honest...perhaps it doesn't go from a standing start to 95+'up the slip road of the M6 but then I wouldnt know about that sort of thing m'lud. I was buying a used reliable motor to get me to work...and a gem of a 140 presented itself.. And I am not disappointed..surprised:yes...disappointed:no..... I wouldn't swap it for a 170 unless I was doing loads of daily motorway or mountain roads...which We are not. Either way for most purposes I think that there is little difference...they are both fun and capable cars. If I was having second thoughts with a new order I would chat to my dealer...perhaps have another test drive ..get some motorway miles in...put my doubts at rest and await my new 140 eagerly .....or if doubts still linger negotiate a change asap. It's never too late till the whole balance has been transferred Cheers John
  12. Sounds good...I will take a look. I had noticed splatters of water/mud over air filter housing.... Wonder these slots are the source. It was odd that the engine got more filthy than the wifes passat.. Cheers, J

  14. Hullo, When I got my Yeti a few months ago (2nd hand) the engine bay was a bit mucky...no oil splatter or anything but a bit of road grit and salt ..the usual stuff. I gave a good but mechanically sympathetic clean. It has slowly got more mucky and today when I topped up the wash fluid alongside my wife's passat (which has never seen a clean) I was struck how filthy the old girls (the yeti not the passat or indeed the wife) innards had become. Particularly the web-space around the air filter box...looked like it had held an amount of salt water while it was evaporating...looks like it blew in under the bonnet. Has anyone else noticed their engine bay collecting muck? Any mileage in putting a strip of seal across above the radiator housing etc? Cheers J
  15. Hmm. Think it would be a retrograde step for the yeti. Regression to the mean. It is similar to all the other mid-priced SUVs ...think it loses the distinctive yeti 'flavour' Pretty in its own way I guess. J
  16. Actually my radio and stuff was all fine BUT I did have a not so little panic when the power steering light and TCS light came on.. Luckily after some deep breathing I checked the thread on here... They go out after 20yards (or is that meters). Voltage on the removed battery is still 12.75. If it is still that after a few days I'll try it under load. Cheers J

  18. Thanks Graham, I've had no preceding oddness or bonging. The old battery when I took it out was showing a healthy 12.7v. I'll see how this drops in the garage. It was and old unit I think put in by the dealer...it had masking tape with another, older vehicles reg on it. I'll see if my problem recurs with my fresh battery. Cheers John
  19. Went to unlock the yeti this morning. Pressed the usual button... Nothing. Hmmmm Pressed all the buttons... Nothing..... Spare set of keys.... Nothing. Hmmmm Opened with the mechanical key....Alarm went off. Silenced alarm... Buttons now working. Started well... How odd. But... The clock, odometers (the settable ones) and all the settings were returned to zero/default. Why did it start so well when everything was dead? Then remembered a thread where low battery can cause odd happenings. Perhaps it was 'hibernating' as a response to low battery voltage...preserving enough juice to let it start? I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience? Have swapped the battery but still unsure as if this will have fixed It? Cheers J
  20. Hi, Replaced battery today. All went well but as soon as i turned it on... Error codes for steering and tCS! My cheap dongle plus android 'torque' showed no fault! A bit stuck, any ideas? Cheers J Update: Doh! Should have read the replacing battery thread..... 20yards and the lights went out! Happy Yeti. happy John. I'll get my coat. Cheers again. J
  21. Hi I think many purchasers of the odbii dongles buy them to fiddle with settings or to check on things rather than to fix specific problems. I think earlier in the thread someone did have the Haldex failure and it was fixed by resetting the error code, perhaps you could pm them? Hope you get it sorted. J
  22. I am ashamed of myself. Oh dear; I am a long term MacOs user I have fallen into the latter day trap of referring to 'Apple devices' and only meaning mobile apple devices (iOs) like some king of teenager. Forgetting my beloved MacOs..how could I? Apologies. To clarify , I meant that The cheappo bluetooth dongle won't work with ipad / iPhone. The wifi one will work (so I hear) but I havet got one so can't vouch for it. Never thought of using my MacBook to be honest.... But keen to try now! Is your dongle the Bluetooth one too? What Mac software are you using? I may be able to stop sneaking my wife's pink vinyl clad android tablet out to the yeti in a brown paper bag! Cheers, John
