  1. Ok, done flush and oil change now and no improvement. Not sure where to go next?
  2. Hi there My 12 plate VRS TSI dsg has developed a new tapping noise in the last month or so. It sounds like a dodgy tappet but would value your thoughts: I had a similar noise about a year ago and thanks to advice on this forum diagnosed a N80 Purge valve which I replaced and solved the issue. A year later (and another 10k miles) and a tapping noise is back. It’s definitely not the N80 valve as I’ve tried disconnecting the power supply and tapping is still there. It’s easily audible from inside the car when gently tickling the throttle at 30 mph or so. Can’t hear it when engine is idling in neutral or when looking under the bonnet.. Also it goes away when I press the accelerator and put the engine under a bit of load load. It’s also not effected by engine oil temp....seems the same on cold start as when warm. Its also a bit intermittent. It came in about a month ago, got louder, then disappeared for a week or so, now it’s back in anger. Any ideas? Injector? HPFP? Stuck Tappet? Im due a 10k oil change next week so will try some flushing oil first to see if that helps but any other suggestions appreciated. Probably not relevant but I’m running a stage 1 shark remap and always use V Power. thanks
  3. Took me a while but finally had my N80 valve changed at my local independent garage. Part was just over £50, not sure about fitting cost as I had a minor service at the same time so all labour costs lumped together on invoice. It can only have been £20 or so tho. Ticking gone, engine back to silky smooth and quiet and at less cost than skoda quoted for supply only.. Happy owner.
  4. Do you mind if I ask where you got your N 80 purge valve from and at what cost. Was it an easy job to swap? Mine is noisy but I'm struggling to source a reasonably priced replacement this side of China.
  5. £90.12 inc VAT fit part supply only. Sounds too much, am looking for other suppliers
  6. Me too, not sure, I've asked for price for supply only so I can try to fit myself, will keep you posted.
  7. Im certainly not 100% sure this will cure the click, but personally I find it annoying so will probably give it a go and post result on here. I totally agree though that this is not a mission critical part so it would be perfectly reasonable to just leave it to tick away (unless it Flag’s a fault light/code)
  8. Email from Skoda today: Hi Mr Beard Sorry for delay £141.12 would be the cost to replace the EVAP N80 valve Let us know if you wish to proceed Kind Regards Andy
  9. Found this eBay, not sure if it's the right bit, any views? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HQ-VW-AUDI-SKODA-GENIUNE-BOSCH-N80-PURGR-SOLENOID-VALVE-OE-06E906517A/252638757831?epid=1137611800&hash=item3ad27183c7:g:gvkAAOSw-0xYNHXO Meanwhile I've chased quote with Škoda.
  10. I'm the originator of the 'tappet noise' post referred to above Since my post All Electric Škoda, Kings Heath, Brum, have had a look and confirmed the EVAP N80 purge valve diagnosis. You can easily check this out by unplugging it. They won't replace on warrantee as it isn't flagging a fault code but it's quite cheap (circa £30) and a few minutes labour to fit. I'm still waiting for a quote but will advise when I have it. Meanwhile, don't worry, it's a common problem and an easy cheap fix.
  11. Im thinking of going this route too. Did you fit at same time or separately, and if the latter which made most difference. Still a comfy ride? Mines a 12 plate fl VRS with 54k so original suspension still has some life in it. I'd be interested to have an idea of budget to work to for both at a decent Indy, and/or recommendations from anyone for somewhere in the midlands to get it done.
  12. I've attached 2 audio files of my car with and without tick, not sure if you will be able to play them but if so let me know what you think and whether this sounds like EVAP purge valve. thanks Car Tick Not.m4a Car Tick 1.m4a
  13. Thanks for the responses. The noise in this video is exactly what mine sounds like. So what exactly is an evaporator purge valve and why have I had this noise on only 3 occasions but not all the time? Is the answer to replace it or ignore it and carry on? thanks
  14. I've owned my mk II VRS TSI DSG for 4 weeks and about 1000 miles. It has 53k on the clock and a full Skoda service history with last oil change was about 5k miles ago. On 3 occasions Ive noticed a significant tappet like noise coming from the top end of the engine. It disappears if you rev higher or switch engine off for a few mins and then restart. Car performs well and there are no warning lights and most of the time it runs quietly as normal. It sounds like a sticking tappet or a hydraulic tappet suffering from oil starvation. Any ideas? What should I do next (if anything)? Garage says warrantee won't cover it unless they can hear the problem themselves. On the last occasion I recorded it on my phone but apparently that's not sufficient evidence for them to investigate.
  15. Dealer will be posting me a new engine cover shortly so that's a bit of good news. Apparently they had removed the old one whilst replacing plugs having noted a broken fixing so service department had already ordered it but not told sales, it's on back order apparently. Im also now sitting at home waiting for Autoglass to arrive to sort out the chip via my insurance, good advice thanks. I think I can live with the alloys until I change tyres in a year or so. Then I will get them done properly. Overall having reflected and driven it for a week now I'm really happy with the car. It swallows massive amounts of family clobber and is still quite good fun on Welsh roads where i spend most of my driving time. And I just love the rallye green!
