  1. I forgot to say one vital bit of info, the time between the ticks/frequency if them does increase with speed and decrease with speed. Its just sometimes the noise is there on idle when the car is not moving.
  2. Had it replaced around 1.5 years ago, seems to look ok and no squealing?
  3. Hi everyone. I have done a lot of searching in various areas of the interwebs but not really found anything conclusive. I realise these things are hard to diagnose but thought I would give it a shot on here and let you knowledgeable lot have a think before I spend a heap of cash on investigative work (if I even need to). I am going to get this in first - my engine is fairly tappety already and has been for some time - I am not particularly worried about this, hasn't got any worse in 30k miles. This noise I am about describe is a new noise that sounds different to the tappet noise (which very obviously comes from the innards of the engine). The noise sounds like a clicking/tapping noise or to be more specific like there is potentially a small stone/object in my disc. I hear you say that's probably what it is and it is indeed what i suspected at first, however the noise is there at idle when the car is stationary. The noise has a slight pattern to it (Not just a tick-tick-tick-tick), it's more like a ticky-tick-tick-tickty-tick-tick (sorry haha). I can hear it inside the car and outside the car. Sometimes it is there from first start up, sometimes it appears after a bit of driving. When I pop the bonnet you cannot hear it as the noise of the engine is louder. It appears to be coming from the OSF part of the engine bay, possibly behind the OSF wheel/cambelt area. I cannot see anything untoward when I have had an look (cambelt cover looks fine, everything looks in place as it should). Cambelt was done 9k ago so doubt it's that. Car has done 131k miles, 1.9tdi 100hp. Has anyone come across anything like this before at all? It basically sounds like something is loose. Thanks in advance, Mike.
  4. Had it done by my local garage. Hopefully will have solved the problem :-)
  5. Thanks for that, sounds like its my problem, now whether to do myself or let my local garage do it for £141....
  6. Hi people. My fabia has very recently started shuddering whilst driving. Plugged it into my code reader and it's coming up with p1666 code on cylinder 1 injector valve (electrical malfunction). Have done researh on here and general internet and I am suspecting it is a faulty injector wiring loom? Has anyone had this code and got it fixed before? If it's the wiring loom can do myself no probs, just wondered if anyone has solved the p1666 code by changing it before I waste my money. Thanks in advance Mike
  7. Quote is: £111 for new console bush (offside) and tracking, or if I have the track rod ends replaced (offside+nearside) also it comes to £186. Tyres I am having done separately through black circles (fitted just before I take the car in for the work described above).
  8. I didn't think it was unreasonable to be honest. That includes parts, labour, tr-tracking and VAT. Just like I say. trying to avoid as much cost as possible :-)
  9. Hi Coskev, the reason I am trying to avoid replacing the actual track rod ends is because it straps £75 on top of the price of the other work I am doing. They are not yet split, just slightly deteriorated. They were only an advisory and are still functioning fine, I was curious as to whether just replacing the dust covers would prolong their life a bit more. I am currently in the middle of buying a house so need to keep costs down as much as possible :-) nearside front Track rod end ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c) offside front Track rod end ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c) Cheers, Mike.
  10. Hi guys, looking for people who have had experience with the universal split track rod end covers? Are they any good/worth it? Can get some for a tenner off fleabay. My track rod end dust covers picked up an advisory on my recent MOT and am reluctant to change the whole track rod ends due to costs. Likewise i am having the tracking done/ new tyres so dont want the track rod ends to wear 2 months down the line because the seals have failed :-/ Cheers, Mike
