  1. Hey Philpix, that's a really good deal. Where did you get that from?
  2. I suppose I'll end up doing that but i think it's always more valuable when someone gives you their take on it.
  3. Hi folks I was wondering whether anyone has changed their cambelt themself and took any photos of the steps or just what their experience was like or is planning to change? There's a really good guide on here for servicing which i used to do my own but couldn't find a specific one for cambelt. In two minds about getting a garage to do it. I'd really like to learn how it's done and would gain bit of confidence from other people's experience. Thanks
  4. Anyone ever hear a squeaking sound after start up? Recently started getting this. It lasts for about 10 seconds and then goes. Before this though many times after start up I've heard a sound that i can only describe as the noise you get when moving the wing mirrors if that makes any sense but not as squeaky.
  5. Hi, Just curious how long it's taking people these days for engine warm up? This morning it took for my 170 CR 18 mins averaging 32mph over a 10 mile stretch. Seems kinda extra long.
  6. Thanks guys, Heli it does turn out i had to use adapter 2 mount A(inside 19mm) and a bit of tugging and job done! From Euro parts the AP24U and AP18U were around £24 the pair. But beware it lists them as exact fast fit but they come with 4 adapters so not model specific. Cheers for the link Silver, would have saved me some faffing around. I'll keep an eye out for it next time.
  7. They came with 4 clips, the closest appearing to be the one in the pic. Tried with no luck to fit. I've changed wiper blades before on other cars but confused whether the correct adapter is included with this wiper. Drefaldwyn did you fit these same Bosch ones on your car?
  8. Picture of old and new wiper side by side
  9. Hi I bought these Bosch Aerotwin wipers AP24U and AP18U from Euro Car Parts. These came with a multi clip and i cannot figure out how to get them on. I'm using clip 4. Has anyone had experience with these? Or let me know where i can get some for teh Superb as I've already bought a pair of wrong ones from Euro Car Parts.
  10. Many thanks James, exactly what i needed. It was the protective cap, ordered in for £13, phew not too expensive.
  11. Hey Heli, Do you remember what it was called? Thanks,
  12. Hi folks, Anyone know what the tray / guard on the left side of the car towards the middle is called? It's not the main under tray at the front, it's a smaller one. I have no idea what it covers. Mine has snapped off on one end and trying to find a replacement. I'll post a picture once the rain stops. Many thanks,
  13. The warranty is with Honda. Skoda did go direct to Honda care who refused to cover the flywheel. Back to the Honda dealer and they aren't convinced the warranty claim will go through for it. They insist wear and tear not covered, only failure and want to strip the car for pictures. I don't understand what they mean by wear and tear, do they want the flywheel to explode out of the car? I don't know whether i should let them do that in case they make up another excuse and foot me with the bill. Nothing from Skoda but they were very helpful and didn't charge me for diagnosis.
  14. Okay folks, so I believe I have the dreaded dual mass flywheel issue. I took the car to Skoda because I wasn't happy the way it was driving (09, 70K, 170CR dsg), jerking around low gears. Had a technician sit in with me but car seemed to drive perfectly ! However he did note the noisy flywheel and made a point of it. Now I bought this car from a non Skoda main dealer and it has an extended warranty. Took the car back to Skoda for changing the flywheel but the dealer I have warranty with won't cover the flywheel despite it being on the warranty document. Skoda have sent a report to the dealer stating the flywheel needs changing, however the other dealer is being reluctant and putting it down to being a common issue and wear and tear. I can't see this wear and tear bit in the warranty document so I'm kinda confused what to do. The other dealer also wants images before they accept the warranty claim but I don't want them to start stripping the car down only to turn around and say the flywheel is not bad enough. It's month 9 out of 12 on warranty. Any advice appreciated
  15. Ah i found it, it's blocked too! Always wondered what that was.
  16. Where do i get a login from? I mean do i ring erwin up or something?
  17. Silly question but where is this overflow pipe? Is it that hole type thing next to where you put the fuel? Anyone got a picture?
  18. I second that Silver. Could really do with a guide.
  19. Thanks for all the info and pictures, I managed to change the oil, oil filter and the fuel filter with some help today on my 170 CR. Easiest bit being the fuel filter and hardest bit was undoing the sump plug! I went with the oil filter you had in the end Silver but it turned out I needed one with a leg so had to go back to Euro Car Parts. I did manage to find the metal curved bit near the wishbone which i put the axel stands underneath but I did take a tyre off to get to the sump and the sump was on unbeliveably tight, I had a bit of a fright at one stage with the car rocking a little. I had two jacks and an axel stand, the second axel stand I couldn't get it high enough so just left it under. Apart from that I actually took the bracket for the sensor thing off by undoing the screw to get more space and the oil filter was also on really tight. I also found my missing screw for the air filter in the tray that i lost a while ago. I don't think i put the tray back on 100% but think it's too soon to go back under the car. Next time i'll feel safer with ramps I think, any recommended brands to go with? Oh and I looked in the handbook and it stated 4.0 litres for the oil so that's how much I put in. All seems well so far, level in dipstick is fine too. Hope that was okay to do.
  20. Anyone made a conversion to a mkII Superb for keyless entry and a start stop button for the engine? Thinking this would be really cool if possible. Thanks
  21. Hi, I'm in two minds whether to take the car to the Skoda dealer for servicing or not. It's 09 plate and hitting 70k. I've read a couple of threads on changing oil and filters and I'm thinking of giving it a go myself. The only thing I guess i'm still thinking about is the 'road test' and 'inspection' that Skoda would do as part of the service, I've never personally had one before (bought car at 55k) and I'm wondering if it's worth it? To all the chaps doing DIY service on their cars, is there a check list you go for to make sure the car isn't heading for a disaster, I mean does anyone check the cambelt is okay? Or how would I go about doing that? Thanks
  22. Silver how did you get on with this? Was it a straight swap and is it the same for the cr 170? I'm itching to try changing something else after the air filter i did despite losing a screw!:p
  23. Visited them to fix power steering issue. I had the ESP light on and steering had gone heavy. The first day they did an electric check and something up with the steering g sensor and asked for car to be brought back. Dropped the car off in morning and by noon they rang to say problem was fixed, they said they updated software and the cost was £175! Not sure if thats a good deal but unexpected and not covered under warranty. Did serve me with a smile though.
  24. Hi I'm due for a major service, i was wondering if anyone had any experience of reliable independent dealers and what the difference was compared to Skoda main dealer? I'm located in Bedfordshire so anywhere around the home counties would be good. Thanks
  25. Thanks James I'll check them out. At least i know the proper name now!
