It's not the concern of how the dsg behaves with the remap; more the longevity of the clutch packs within
-
Because if the oil continues to contaminate the water it can clog up the narrow coolant galleries in the cylinder head and turbo and lead to overheating, blockages, hotspots all generally not good
-
Interesting article here In a nutshell the development that went in to small capacity forced induction engines seems to have reached its limits and now manufacturers are increasing engine capacity to meet new emissions laws.

That would only detect hydrocarbons in the water where exhaust gasses are getting in to the cooling circuit as a result of HGF between a cooling gallery and a cylinder HGF can also occur between oil and water galleries and the higher pressure oil is forced into the coolant (as appears to be the case in this thread) and wont be picked up by sniffer test Whatever is at fault, the car here is in danger of critical damage from compromised cooling/lubrication IF HGF and I'd have them collect it asap - that's very unlikely to be remnants from manufacture - way, way too much.

As owner of 'Off Your Marks Detailing' I can comment about the dealer offerings... Basically they are an add on/up-sell that is very profitable for the dealer. All cars follow the same dealer prep (wash, dry) and then if the option is taken out for the product they offer (all the same variant of a basic synthetic old tech sealant) they apply it after drying. It's not a great product and the fact it's just wiped on/off then this skips the whole ethos of preparing the car perfectly. Our New car prep takes 10 hours as its the cleansing, decontamination and inspection before applying anything that is paramount. Having a dealer do it often just seals over any contamination often inflicts swirling. This is a typical new car prep process for anyone new to detailing and curious to what's involved - compare that to what is offered by the dealer then its worth considering a detailer of your choice for better value and protection. Just to add - I'm only linking my stuff as it's relevant to this thread and not trying to pimp my services - I'm busy enough as it is. Re the decals - Mine arrived without and I ended up ordering them myself and applying them. Opinion is divided on this forum, but I wanted them as they are part of the 'vRS230 package' and I like things to be as intended, despite them looking a bit 90's vauxhall -

The exhaust tips are advertised wrongly being gloss black. They are satin black and heat resistant paint. If you try to polish them they will come up as a dull sheen and revert back to satin when they get hot. Just keep them clean and don't use anything abrasive is my advice -

DSG or Manual - Which is strongest?
Wakey replied to stu83's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
There's about one new thread a week in this very forum with people experiencing issues with DSG. It may be strong in terms of dealing with torque but the system as a whole is far from trouble free in terms of reliability. -
Gear whining, mechatronic failures and jerkiness on the DSG's date back to the MK5 gti golf - over ten years ago. I guess it's just one of those things where anything complex requiring electronics for operation is bound to have problems at some point. Hope it gets sorted
-
Id run it for a few weeks and let it find it's happy level then start watching as it might use a bit if its a little over filled

Spark condition ? Change or keep ?
Wakey replied to vRSAnt's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Looking at the plugs then they provide a good picture of a nicely running engine to me. At 50k miles I'd be changing them just as a proactive measure. -

They need time to wash it and put lots of swirls in the paint -

Best to get a PDR guy out. They gain access to the dent from the rear and work it out with gentle pushes. The heat/cold techniques only work on certain type of dents and without a pic or or view of the inside of the panel (may be bonding) then its not worth trying as it may become worse. £60.00 should sort it

I noticed it the other morning when it was cold outside.

It's quite worrying that a skoda garage has to have the help of skoda tech support to tell them to check the thermostat housing isn't it? Out of sight, out of mind seems to be the case here. Basic checks like this (and the use of a borascope) should be carried out by any competent person. Out of interest; do you still gat the vapour from the exhaust you mention?

New octy windscreen creaking!
Wakey replied to RobMurrant's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Taking the easiest thing first, it could be emanating from the base of the screen on the inside where it touches interior trim/dash Ive got an octy 3 with sunroof and heated screen and no noises from them so I'm not sure if this is a common problem. Having replaced screens on other cars then they are bonded in place and the inner side of the glass does touch a rubber seal or areas with felt on to negate any noise. -
If yo are looking for a bigger change in style and gadgets then maybe wait until the facelift next year? Assuming you can live with the new headlight design :p

Just spotted my old VRS for sale!
Wakey replied to SkodaVRS1963's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Seems like a poor sale advert - certainly not doing it any favours by the sounds of things -
Not sure, but usually its a case of peeling back the carpet liner, unclipping the lead and undoing 2 or 3 10mm nuts. They tend to be located with a couple of ball sockets and need easing out with a plastic trim tool.

I'm not sold on selling tbh Redboy as I do have a few other means of raising the capital - one notably from a friend/investor whom I've done work with before. Obviously he wants a cut though. Even if I got 19/20 I won't lose that much as I bought outright for a cracking price so it would be just a matter of cutting it loose with no complications. I own a number of cars and for every day fun and practicality its an awesome car. Even my wife says to keep it! - this may well be a deciding factor
-
The danger here is that after them faffing around and eventually doing a consumption test then you might be out of warranty when something is found. I would want a compression test and oil leak down test done to confirm all is OK with the internal components. It's worth paying a good garage to do this and then push for the dealer to take action (if needed)
