How much does it cost fit one of these CV joints? Anyone in the Birmingham area who would be able to do this? Thanks -
cv joints - 1.3 felicia - 1998
fel123 replied to fel123's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda Forman
ok, it sounds like the cv joint has gone, as the clicking/clunking noise disappears when driving in a straight line, and when turning but foot off the accelerator pedal. However, as all the rubber boots are still intact, how do i know which one has gone? How much would it cost to fit a cv joint? Are they easy to do? Can it be DIY job? Thanks -

Update: - Have checked the rubber boots and they all seem ok, (No tears, and no sign of grease sprayed all over the place). Could the CV joint still have failed with the rubber boots all intact? The noise isn't there when driving in a straight line. thanks -

Hi everyone Got a few questions about CV (constant velocity joints):- 1) How long (in mileage terms) would you expect CV joints to last? 2) What causes them to fail? 3) What would be the symptoms of a failed or failing CV joint? 4) Would it cause a MOT failure? 5) How much would they cost to replace? and would you need to do both at the same time? Thanks in advance

It's the big round one with the traditional clock face and the hands. Was working ok before. Now just stuck in one place, and won't budge forwards or backwards, for no apparent reason. Thanks -
Valve clearance checking...
fel123 replied to Skippymon's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda Forman
I thought these engines had self adjusting valve clearances. That is the hydraulic ones that do not require adjustment? -
Hiya My clock seems to have stopped working. ie the one that tells the time. Anyone had this before. Thanks F

I have reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes. Then I gave it a good run on the motorway. Hopefully, this has reset the computer and it will use less petrol. The dial on the dash board that measures the coolant temperature sits nicely in the middle of the scale after the engine has warmed up. The fact that this sensor is working, would it be reasonable to assume that the coolant sensor which feeds the ecu is also working properly or are the 2 sensors completely different?

fuel usage on felicia 1.3L
fel123 replied to fel123's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda Forman
Ok just to clarify, I have already replaced the thermostat and that is all ok. The car is warming up properly and the coolant temperature gauge sits in the middle as it should do. SO all ok there. However, Daz51 is saying that on favorits and felicais it is common for a sensor to go which controls temperature. the sensor may have broken and it may not detect that the engine is warm, i.e still sucking loads of petrol in during your whole journey, due to the sensor still thinking its cold. This is saying that although the engine and coolant are at the correct temperature, the sensor is telling the ECU that the engine is cold, and so the ECU is still feeding in loads of fuel. Hope that makes sense. Thanks ps - what should the emissions readings be? and how can the ECU be checked?
