  1. 2012 MkII Octavia VRS Diesel - So far garage has had car 9 weeks, initially thought it was the ECU, sent to two different specialists to no avail. It's an intermittent fault, sometimes you can drive for miles trouble free, next time you've only gone 100 yards and it's juddering like a learner on the kangaroo petrol. It's not all the time, and there's no specific speed, revs or gear that it happens at, just comes and goes. Any thoughts?
  2. Was at 5 years RJVB which is recommended interval eh? You on the Mk2? Thanks for the advice though, just wasn't sure, some seem to say after 10k oil should be changed, happy to keep her going till service light comes on
  3. Chinese. not that cheap at £80 a go. Thoroughly recommend, the grip in dry, wet and snow/ice has been faultless. Keep yer £130 tyres tyvm
  4. Well tbh this is why I found this thread. I've been on a pretty steady 10,000 mile service interval since new (62 plate bought second hand 3 years ago). Last service @62k which included water pump and cambelt. I'm now approaching 72k and light should have been on a while ago, but nothing. Serviced at a VAG specialist as usual last time. Keep going till light comes on?
  5. Funny this bumping as I replaced all 4 yesterday. Unfortunately couldn;t get the Boto's anymore, have gone for Maxxis this time instead. Fair bit of snow today and I was up before gritters and they were coping admirably, so I have high hopes of being as good as the Botos. 20k on the fronts in the end, if anyone finds them, they're great value.
  6. Well about to do all 4 corners again, and like mobile phones (just bought a Huawei a month ago), it seems that the Chinese are sorting out their tyres too, the early days horror stories around Chinese rubber have gone (Tilt excepted)
  7. Yeah, AB postcode is the lowest premiums in the uk. I also don't fall for the winter tyre scam that so many in england who hardly ever even see snow seem to. Driving for 34 years and never had a crash. Go figure eh? I should probably bite my tongue.
  8. Aye, had them about a year, and found them better than the Yokos in all conditions.
  9. So I'm 30 months into my 62 plate VRS. Car had Yokohamas on it when I got it (at 22,000 miles), and changed all 4 corners around 30k, and then put Boto's on the front at 50k as I'd had three pothole damages in a year (due to Aberdeen bypass being built, roads even worse than usual) so was fed up of the £140 a time carnage. Anyway, far from moaning about my £60 tyres, I've found them to be grippier than my Yokohamas, and have let me throw the car around a bit more after initially finding myself a bit twitchy after switching from a Focus ST on the Y's they came with. So, Chinese tyres not as bad as they're made out to be?
  10. Exactly why I'm worried. But will it have a negative effect on resale values? And, I want a brolly :P
  11. Any others with success stories? Reading some horrors on the FB page :(
  12. Due to a run of pothole damage, I've now switched to budget tyres. Boto Vantage. Looking for a downside, because the grip on these on winter roads is better than the Yokohamas I had on before, for just over £50 a corner. I;m assuming they'll wear badly? But unless they do under 8k miles I'm not sure why I should splash out on the good stuff anymore?
  13. Folk given up on winters now I assume? Waste of money
  14. Need all 4 corners done, looking at both these options due to their supposed wet grip. Need 225/40 for VRS Diesel. Anyone got some feedback?
  15. No Broadband. Live 10 miles from citty centre in a village of c.50 houses - BT/openreach class this as "hard to reach and unviable" Thanks for the tips on internet coverage, that's mainly what my phone gets used for, so guess I'll be giving Three a whirl then.
  16. LOL, thanks John, guess that explains why their coverage map looked just like O2. They're certainly cheap, and I liked O2, so I guess for a monthly I can easy get out of then they're the go to guys
  17. About to get out of an EE contract cos (long story) they can no longer provide service in and around my house. Been with Orange back in the day - utter swearwords, never again. Vodafone - not good coverage here, the contract I moved from for better coverage - and utter swearwords Three - seem to have the best rep of all the majors, but then that's not hard considering how badly mobile companies treat their customers. Coverage map seems terrible in my location, nearly as bad as EE. O2 - Was with them many years, never had an issue, great CS, but plans available are not the cheapest however, and coverage seems no better than giff gaff So, Giff Gaff - as I am unlikely to get much coverage from anyone in my home and surrounds, and I make few texts or calls, GG seem best with their 2Mb package. So, knowing little about what this is all about, are they any good? It's a rolling monthly contract so not like I'll go far wrong, but I am fed up with the constant PAC codes and crap that goes with it. Good? Bad?

  19. Why are you wanting gritters out at that temp? Drives me mental seeing them out when the weather doesn't justify it, then in february when it's needed they're nowhere cos they've blown their budget. Sounds like your council have the right idea. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk
