  1. He's got more patience than a Saint!!! I'd have had it back in a week and continued to drive it till it failed or not. I'll give the D-C guys a thumbs up for staying on the case. I'm surprised they just didn't toss in the towel and blame it on being a 'Kraut' motor. "Ya-hall, should-ah got-ah Dodge Ram truck with a Cummins!!!! Like all us Texans do!" Cheers!!!
  2. SWIMBO and I watch the show on BBCAmerica. Yes! There's inconsistencies but when all you have to watch is CSI-Miami reloaded (now there's some poor acting, writing and major inconsistencies!), its a pretty good SciFi show. Besides, Gwen is a hottie!
  3. Sarah & Ric, Sorry for the long delay but there was nothing to report on this issue for quite some time. My neighbor's diesel Liberty was returned to him a few days ago after being held by the dealer since late November. The dealer could not find a problem but they continued to try to duplicate the problem. No joy with that! The D-C (or what ever D-C is called today!) 'boffins' got involved and did some research and testing at their 'secret' labs. They eventually came up with the theory that the two throttle position sensors were faulty. They have been replaced and the vehicle, so far, has run fine. This repair probably makes some sense as a faulty TPS could cause a run-a-way. We'll wait and see. Thanks again for your help!!! Regards!
  4. Ric, Related questions ... if you please. About how much oil would we find in the intercooler/induction system if the turbo seals were failing? Could the use of a boat load of solvents and cleaners in the induction system cause a similar problem? TIA!
  5. Kipper, Here's a quote from one site on the history of AWAIM "The first two verses of "Away in a Manger" were originally published in a Lutheran Sunday school book in 1885. Two years later, James R. Murray published it as "Luther's Cradle Hymn," thus creating the misconception that Luther had written it. Although some attribute the words to Luther, they are usually considered American anonymous. Some credit the music to Murray; others think he merely harmonized an old German folk song. the words are frequently sung to the tune of the Scottish song "Flow Gently Sweet Afton." " I guess we in the US think of it as English when played to FGSA melody but perhaps its more of a Scottish tradition. After all, Bobby Burns supplied the words to the melody for Flow Gently... Or, maybe its better said its American words to a Scot's melody as in the history.... Its very pretty when played as a medley using Murray's (German folk song) melody -- Flow Gently Sweet Afton -- Murray's tune. Its kind of neat to play as the audience doesn't associate the two tunes. Its like a chocolate candy with a 'surprise' in the middle???
  6. Mo, All is well here.... and you and your family??? Its now winter in mid-Texas. The trees that shed leaves have all done so with only a few left with any color. Now it is alternating between rain/cold and real cold (for us!); windy and really windy; and our usual temperate (20C) days. We missed all the fun of the ice and heavy snows being far, far south of the Red River and Oklahoma. Thank God for that! Just looking at the photos of the blizzard conditions, fallen trees coated with ice, and highways jammed with automotive 'causalities' sent me to the medicine cubby for some Prozac! :Yikes: God!!! I MISS THAT STUFF!!! Folks are getting their holiday trimmings up and things are looking more festive. We'll probably work on that project today and tomorrow. My Mother-in-Law arrives on the 18th for her annual 'hajj' to Texas Hill Country so we are getting ready for her 'State Visit.' All the stockings will be hung by the chimney with care!! I'm cleared for ridiculous ...... so tell me about those new hymns.... Happy Holidays!!! :orb_xmas_
  7. Ok... after watching "Celtic Women" on our PBS station it comes to mind that the US and Britian share many Christmas carols. I play dulcimer and our dulcimer group plays a version of "Away in the Manger" using both the American and British melodies. The British melody is better known to us as "Flow Gently Sweet Afton" and not generally associated with Christmas. "Greensleeves" is also "What Child is This?" Are there any that are uniquely English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish (or countries) tunes that we might not hear in the former Colonies???
  8. Ric, Thanks so much! Your idea makes a ton of sense. Since the dealer's wrenches haven't sorted it out this is certainally an idea that needs investigating. Or, maybe they soaked the induction system with a gallon of fluid and its collected in the system??? I'll relay the information to my friend.
  9. Sarah, Yes it does! Its the 2.8L turbocharged four made by VM Motori (sp). I understand its been around in Europe/England for quite awhile and is a good motor. I think one of the problems here is that unless its a Cummins and in a 'dooley truck' .... our guys don't have the training or interest in them. Jim
  10. Since ya'll have much greater insight into small oil burners that we do in the former Republic, I'd appreciate some help. My neighbor has an '06 Jeep Liberty CRD with about 35K miles on it. Its got that four cylinder, Daimler/Chrysler/Mercedes Benz/Italian turbo diesel oil burner for power. Its a great car and he loves it but now has a serious problem. About two months ago it lost power and died. The dealer replaced a 'turbo tube' and the EGR valve under warranty. Apparently that IS an known issue with these motors. The CRD ran fine for about a week when it suddenly accelerated without being told to do so. The problem happened again right after it was brought back to the dealer (they started it and it immediately went to red line!!!!) and despite being driven daily for a month it hasn't re-occurred. It set one code: "brake and accelerator on at the same time" the car and now nothing. {Had this problem on Ziggy a few years back ... a recall of the brake light switch... and VW store replaced it with a duff switch which almost caused me to rear end another car at 70mph when it didn't disconnect!!! } The Jeep store wrenches are clueless and the DC tech reps about the same. I'm thinking the wrenches either didn't get something back together during the 'turbo/EGR fix' or they jacked around with something (knowingly or unknowingly)... or, there's some problem with the brake light switch/wiring. Anyway, something is telling the motor to turn up the rpm and for a diesel, that means injecting more fuel... lots more in this case. Now he's afraid to sell it and afraid to drive it. He has filed a notice with the US NTSB... the first involving a CRD. There's absolutely nothing on the web about this problem.... Anyone else have a similar problem with a CRD or any other diesel engine? If so, what was the cause? Thanks in advance!
  11. Lance, I almost mentioned "Green Fields" in my previous post but I was afraid that I'd sound too sappy. GFOF is one of my favorite songs! Its by Eric Bogle. Also known as "No Man's Land" and "Willie McBride." Its such bitter-sweet song... a haunting melody and the lyrics just break your heart. I've 're-keyed' it and play it on my dulcimer. No Man's Land (Eric Bogle song - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Here's the Corries!!! It give me chills! Eric Bogle also wrote "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda".... about the ANZACs at Suvla Bay in WWI.... also a bitter sweet song with tremendous lyrics. I hope these links come out. If not UTube Bogle/Green Fields of France and "Band Played..."
  12. Poppies used to be more popular in the US. Now you have to chase one down from the Vets of Foreign Wars. I've got one in "Ziggy the Turbo's" dashboard vase year round! Here's to your cherished veterans!!!! Cheers Mates!!! And may you never be forgotten!!!
  13. Uggggh! Bad one! Still working out names.... they change from day to day until we find one that 'fits.' Right now the female is being 'tested' with the name, Bailey. The guy is being called Simon. We're not too sure about that one yet. I've got to figure out how to post a photo on Briskoda.... Thanks again for all the suggestions..... keep them coming!
