  1. If anybody wants one it looks like a bargain, but, for the life of me, I can't make out what it is from the picture! My link
  2. Thanks for the positive replies This could be my start on the slippery slope of customising!
  3. I am thinking of replacing the bulbs in the overhead lamps and boot lamp with LEDs to shed a little more light on things; the standard units aren't the brightest, especially in the boot.. Are there any potential problems with doing this? Bulb failure warning lamp coming on, that sort of thing.
  4. About 10 mins into my drive to work on Thursday, the ASR warning light came on. Bit puzzled and annoyed, never had any gremlins before but a busy day so couln't do much about it. Driving home, same thing happened. A quick search on the forums here suggested a broken "load signal" cable. Same again on Friday confirmed my suspicions so a quick check under the car this weekend revealed the offending broken wire. A couple of hours, some extra lengths of wire and a few connectors later and all is well again Thank you Briskoda for saving me a lot of time, hassle and expense. As an aside, can anyone explain, in fairly simple terms, what this load signal cable actually does?
  5. I would imagine fitting such a system would be quite involved, especially if you wanted to keep it to factory spec. As far as I'm aware, it is the responsibility of the individual as to whether they belt up or not, so as long as you're wearing your belt, you should not be liable. Your passengers can ignore a warning light in front of you just as easily as they can ignore you if that is what they have a mind to do. You could always try refusing to give them a lift...
  6. Well the one next to it looks like a Metro!!!! (Can't be many of those left in Germany!)
  7. I am thinking of adding daytime running lights to my Fabia. Whether you agree with them or not, it looks as though they will become a reality on all new cars from next year. Though there will be no requirement for older cars to use their lights full time, "lights on" will increasingly become the norm and those without will increasingly be at a disadvantage. I like the idea of independent LED lights but can't see a way of fitting them that doesn't look tacky and I don't want to replace the foglamps. It seems there isn't a software setting for DRL on the Fabia but a search on here saved a kitten and came up with a genuine Skoda accessory, part no. BEA 409 001. This doesn't appear to be an accessory that has officially been sold in the UK so could anyone (from Allams perhaps :-)) tell me if it's possible to get hold of one of these and maybe provide a bit more detail of exactly how it works? Presumably it uses the existing dipped beams (possibly at reduced voltage?). Does it also switch the sidelights on? Would there be any efficiency gains in using this kit over simply switching the lights on (apart from the convenience factor)? Thanks, Clive
  8. Reading the thread regarding the warning switch on the rear seat has prompted me to ponder on just how much kit has been deleted from the Fabia over the years for cost-cutting. I have a post-facelift Elegance but recently was in a friends 04 plate pre-facelift and was surprised at the differences. There are a few gains such as better trim and a cd player, but "missing" from mine are things like rear leccy windows, gradient tinted screen and a proper cigarette lighter. Other "economies" I can think of over time are the soundproofing under the floorpan, full colour engine cover badge, battery box cover and various bits from the tool kit. The new Fabias also lose things like the warning lamps in the doors, tilt adjustable front head restraints, interior fuel filler release, rear discs on some models and so on... I know there are gains as well, but it seems they do come at a price!
  9. Hi, If the owner of the very shiny Diamond Silver VRS which overtook me on the A240 Ewell By-Pass yesterday evening (Thursday) is a Briskoda member and is reading this, can I ask: How did you achieve that brilliant shine? Mine scrubs up well when I clean it properly but that car really sparkled. A credit to the owner:thumbup:
  10. As far as i understand it, the 505.01 specification refers to the oil's performance under specific circumstances, in particular the stresses imposed by the PD engine's injectors. Other oils MAY protect as well or better but there would be no way of knowing for sure until your engine started to wear! Unless the garage can prove that the oil they used meets the 505.01 specification, I would insist that they drain it and use a correct oil, then show you the evidence that they have done so.
  11. They were never offered as an after market accessory but are still available as replacement parts. Easy enough to fit. The part numbers are LH: 6Y0 881 577 A 47H, RH: 6Y0 881 578 A 47H for the Onyx colour. You will also need some extra screws to mount them, make sure you order the longer ones. AFIK, they are still the same part numbers for the 2007> Fabia too.
  12. Thinking of buying a pair of these: German Number Plates and License Plates Thing is, there's a slight curve to the front number plate mount (std post-facelift bumper, not VRS) and, as the surrounds hinge along the top and bottom edges, I am worried it might be enough to stop the frame opening up to fit the plates in. Has anybody fitted this type of surround to the front of their Furby and do they work ok?
  13. Don't think I added the link propery. Sorry! SKODA FABIA SPORTS EXHAUST 1.9D & 2.0 * NEW SKODA PART* on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 18-Apr-08 06:32:23 BST)
  14. Found this whilst trawling ebay. Don't think I want it for mine tbh but wondered if it might be of interest to anyone? Never seen it listed as an "official" accessory, wonder what other tuning parts they offer?
  15. I do like the silver vent surrounds though, think they've been mentioned on here before. Would brighten up the dash a bit. Never been quite convinced by the after-market stick-on ones.
  16. Mine's a 55 plate, black badge and battery cover. Think I might invest in a shiny new green badge :-) Just out of curiosity, what does it say on the sticker on the battery cover? For some reason, the one that was on mine has been removed. Cheers, Clive
  17. I agree that sealing the carriers is the best approach. Provided it is done thoroughly with a good quality sealant that bonds to the metal it is completely effective. I disagree that the problem is due to accumulation of water though. The water runs down the inside of the doors and, because the seal is inadequate, runs straight through inside the door before it even reaches the bottom. The 'flood' of water that is released when you open a leaky door is what is trapped between the interior trim and door seal. Since sealing the doors, this has never happened to me again, even after the most torrential downpour or thorough washing. Sometimes weeks can go by without me using my rear doors and no problems have recurred.

  19. I've had my 1.9 TDi for a little over a year now and have always been impressed with just how quickly it de-mists! Switch on the a/c, turn the blower on to screen at full blast and the car is clear in seconds, even on the wettest days! No problems with steamy windows here!
  20. The under seat mounting for the fire extinguisher on the new Octy's, Roomsters etc. (GCA600001) looks like a neat fixing solution but doesn't look as though it'd be that easy to adapt to a mk1 Furby. There are 2 mounting brackets listed for the Fabia in the online parts catalog but no clue as to where or how they fit. Anyone any ideas? (Nos. 4 and 7 on the attached page.) Thanks Clive Fabia 2005.pdf
  21. Bought it from the dealer. Worked out quite (in fact very!) expensive in the end, just over £120 which is getting on for 3 times the price as a factory option! It was something I'd set my heart on doing though.
  22. The centre restraint is below the line of sight from the driver's seat so doesn't impair visibility at all. Why Skoda didn't fit the same shape on the outer ones is a bit of a mystery.
  23. Finally picked up the remaining parts for my 3rd head restraint this morning. As it is a fine sunny day, decided to take the plunge, cut the holes in the upholstery and fit it. 15 minutes later, one much more complete looking rear seat (and safer to boot!). Well chuffed.
  24. Thanks, if I decide to buy them, that's the place to go. Trouble is, I'll end up buying a Touareg torch with the money I've just saved!
