  1. Or, in fact, not. http://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/everyday-myths/does-hybrid-car-production-waste-offset-hybrid-benefits2.htm Amazing how you can tell a person's political and environmental views on any given subject regardless of facts or events. We frame the world around us according to what we happen to believe.
  2. Thanks - well this should be put into a sticky then right? Want to know if your car is affected? Put your VIN into here - http://master.skoda-auto.com/mini-apps/recall-actions That said, sounds like it might still be a work in progress, from langers2k post above if it was clear one moment and not later. FWIW I'm showing clear on an Octavia Business Greenline III, on the road 04/15
  3. Believe me, it's not been obvious to me checking in every day for the past week or more. If the info is now known - which is seems to be - can this not be placed in a clearly named sticky in each relevant forum? It's kinda nuts we have to trawl through a 38 page sprawling thread in "general chit-chat" when clearly its highly relevant to people's own Skodas. Not sure that "general chit-chat" quite covers it. It seems to be this one type of engine, EUR 5 right? It's not clear at all to me what models, and what cars, that represents, and yet this information must be known. Grateful for some clarity, and thanks to anyone who can provide it here while Skoda themselves stay quiet.
  4. Just to say I bought from New Car Discount earlier this year - no problems, very efficient and straight, the guy who I was dealing with was very quick to respond to questions. Delivery on a truck to the door. Saved about £4k - the local dealers wouldn't do any kind of discount,
  5. Yes, could be a lot better. It should offer country-specific correct keyboards - so in the UK always start with a letter for example. But it has pretty much got me rougly to the right place.
  6. Most of my annoyances are to do with the Amundsen. The satnav is pretty poor - has a great habit of showing approaching roundabouts as mysterious circles til you're right on it, only then dramatically revealing which way you should go. The artificial volume limiting is maddening, But the most irritating thing is the interface with the iPhone via their Matsumi thing. Terrible. Gets hopelessly lost if playing anything other than the music player - podcasts / other apps often don't start at all, or get stuck in a permanent loop of play / stop / play stop. Wrong info on screen usually, then it might crash, needing to be disconnected to go back to square one. Bluetooth much more stable - no album art but hey. Only genuinely useful thing about the whole cable deal is that it charges the phone. Other than that, hopeless.
  7. Thanks for those posts, useful info, might do some more digging tomorrow,
  8. So anyway,,.. all politics aside (this seems the kind of thread that reinforces everyone's pre-existing ideology), I just want an idea of the facts here. What's the nox of s business Greenline vs a regular Skoda diesel? and this meets Euro 6 criteria? Which is what? And is Euro 6 already mandatory in the UK? And for how long? What's the kind of figures of other diesel cars out there? Just trying to get an idea of how green the Greenline really is nox-wise compared to other diesels out there. Thanks,
  9. What are the specifics on the Octavia range? I thought their NOx was about as low as diesels can get for the moment.... I can only hope that as with CO2, any tax will be emissions dependent.
  10. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-32512152 Brilliant - just bought a Greenline Business Estate thinking it was the best thing for the environment, 0% tax band etc. Anyone got any links of substance to the details of what's likely to happen?
  11. Gerrycan - whoa, that'll take some psychological adjustment after the manic fuel-saving to see what it burns at idle... I definitely also notice that the car at cold has worse mpg, and of course lots of stop/starts.
  12. Ha, not quoted as obsessed as tailgating yet, but it's a thought... The journey back I decided to push things a little more, so cruised at 68 dropping to a pensioner-like 60 for the uphills. 79.1 - tantalisingly close to the 80 barrier. 60 all the way should smash it, but my residual memory of youth will probably always prevent me going that far. Just made a short trip this evening behind a real pensioner who insisted on 25mph in the 30 zone and 35 in the 40. A few hills, overall downhill a bit probably - amazed to see it did 70 over the journey, so even slow can be economical. Very impressed still.
  13. Same M25 motorway trip today hit 77 before coming off the motorway, ended up around 75 after a bit of urban at the end. It was good traffic - 72ish for the first 2/3rds then down to 60 on the variable speed limit stretch. Economy gaming is surprisingly fun...
  14. First time I filled it, it was 41 litres to first click, 2nd time 43 point something, with the display telling me I had 5 miles left (I wasn't panicking). But even this at about 600 miles is nearly double the range of my old Focus - not much fussed about squeezing every last drop out of it.The last run wasn't as high as 80mph, it was cruising more like 72 I think. Wow, I'm such at rebel. I think dropping a few mph did make a difference, combined with the easing back on 2 hills and general smooth driving. On the way up (same route) I got 66mph, I was probably cruise controlling a bit higher. Basically I'm starting to game driving for economy. Kinda sad thing to do I realise, but ulitmately it's all in a good cause. I'm one of those who thinks we need to start weaning off oil, and bought the Greenline with that in mind. Hoping that it might be my last new car that needs oil at all.
  15. Huzzah - hit a giddy 71.9 today at the end of a 50 mile trip, mostly motorway at just over 70, with a bit of 60mph for heavy traffic and easing off a tad on a couple of big hills - just me in the car but a full tank. Over the previous fuel tank it averaged exactly 60, and that includes the wife's trips (who takes most unkindly to the car's gearing suggestions) and around-town chores. While the Amundsen provided plenty of irritations (hate the volume limiting; the satnav is pretty hopeless etc), the car itself is doing the business.
