  1. I just had mine serviced at my local main dealer. I'm on a service plan so it made no difference to me, but they used the Quantum Longlife 3 5w/30 oil...even though I'm on a fixed service interval, so the cost might not be as cheap as you might think. Looking at the title of the thread, it would appear that the OP's car is on a variable service schedule?
  2. Not worried about DPF one little bit...it's a petrol!!! It's more about the oil they are using...longlife on a fixed servicing plan doesn't make economic sense to me!
  3. Hello All, Most confused by a conversation with my dealer today  . Car (1.6MPI) booked in for its first service, and I asked about oil. Having grabbed 4L of 10W/40 Castrol Magnatec when Halfords had their offer on, I was keen to see if they would use it for the oil change, particularly as the oil filler cap has a Castrol endorsement on it. 'Oh no, we use the long life oil on everything now, even on fixed service intervals for the newer engines' I was told. Now maybe I was being naiive, but I thought if the oil met the VW specification for QG2 (VW 501 01/VW 502 00) it would be ok (I've been using ordinary GTX to top up so far)? So if that's the case, why bother with fixed service intervals if everything is long life anyway? If I want to buy a top up oil, I need to be using long life oil (no doubt at a premium price) rather than the 'ordinary' oil, and with a 0W/30 viscosity...is this right, or am I being fed a line? I trust my dealer, and have a good relationship with them, but am surprised at this..or maybe I've missed something! Any advice out there? I'm on a service plan, so it won't cost me any extra for the service, but will for the topping up! Thanks!
  4. Presumably with engine switched on? I've tried very short/short/longer presses, up to the point where the trip resets and it still won't change! Arrghh...
  5. Did this work for you? I tried with mine this morning and all it would do was nothing (short press) or reset trip (longer press)
  6. I sent an email enquiring about a car they had for sale - they didn't bother replying. Hardly an inspiring start before they've got their hands on your money!
  7. They've also got 4L of Castrol Magnatec for £17.50 in 10W/40 (VW 505.00). Anyone use this in their car? I have used Castrol GTX 10w40 for topping up, but wonder if the Magnatec is any good from others' experiences?
  8. Hmmm...Milton Keynes, any car from the Skoda range...isn't VAG Head Office in MK?! I'd go for a vRS estate myself, which one would depend on whether I was paying for the fuel (diesel) or they were (petrol)!
  9. Yes, you're right...my maths was too quick and wrong!! It is £600 plus vat...not £720 less 20%...if I was speccing a new car I'd stick with the Bolero and have a sunroof!!
  10. £720 = £576 with the 20% off at the moment...maybe that's why not many go for them. On my 2001 Elegance it was standard!
  11. Thinking about it one days like today I really miss the sunroof on my old Elegance :'( ...had never thought of it until now, but if I ever buy a new one again, I would pay for it - worth every penny in the sunshine! :sun:
  12. I had this on mine after plenty of short runs in the cold weather and panicked (I know it's only a 1.6 but the same principle would apply)...a few longer runs and I checked the other day - no sign of the creamy grunge
  13. I had the mayo issue as well - wiped it off and it hasn't really come back. Think it was lots of short runs in the cold weather. Have had a few longer runs lately which helps. Economy after almost 8k miles is anywhere between 28 and 35 round town (getting stuck in traffic sees it fall dramatically!) and between 42 and 45 on longer runs depending on load. I emailed 6 dealers about a possible swap for a 1.2 TSi - 3 bothered to reply and were quite helpful. Couldn't take a £2.5k depreciation hit after just 8 months though! Loved the discount when I bought it, but it appears to have affected residuals.
