  1. Hi change the wire between the alternator and the battery, it comes as a separate part, do it fairly soon as if you keep going it will knacker the alternator, i think from memory the wire was about £30 - £40
  2. Radio in my car, elegance tdi, the radio gets the code from the engine management box. replace the battery and turn it all on after a few seconds the code message disappears. Andy
  3. Have you had the door lock apart and tested the micro switches and contacts inside, i would think the problem was in the switch contact for the lock side of the mechanism. the lock has a micro switch to tell it its locked and one to tell it its open, a fault in the lock micro switch is possibly telling the system the door is locked so no power gets to the motor to drive the lock to the lock position but the open system works. its a pain of a job to strip down and fix, but the symptoms as just the same as the fault on my car, i have had to do it twice so far and both times it sorts it for a couple of years till the solder joints crack and go intermittent. as a test does it lock if you bang on the door? Have fun Andy
  4. M8 nyloc nut, don't know about shims/washers, try googling it and see what you get.
  5. Hi, refitted the clutch to my car as it was found sitting on the undertray during a service, don't know if it works yet, problem is its so cold outside i cant tell the difference between on and off. i suspect it isn't working. if you try to refit it without removing the compressor, one of the splines is bigger than the rest so it fits in one position only. i understand that it is suppose to be shimmed to stop it dragging on the pully. best of luck Andy

  9. HI my car had the same fault, do the strip down and re solder the contacts in the door lock mechanism repair. search the forum and you will find a thread on how to do it. Cheers
  10. Got my car back from a service and was presented with the air con clutch (same as the photo) anybody have any idea what size of nut and washer is required to hold it on, i will have a go replacing it if the splins are ok Thanks
  11. Hi its a bit of a swine, you have to remove the window winder supports at the back of the door just to give you a few mm of extra space. once you free it the lock just fits through the gap left. make sure you test it properly before you put it back. i replaced mine with the arm for the door handle in the wrong position so it locked from the remote but you could still open it from the outside! not happy. required removal and stripped down again. you need a splined bit to remove the bolts that hold the lock in place, and torx drivers for the lock barrel. a good idea is to take photos of the lock before you disassemble it, i didn’t and spent 1/2 hr trying to get it back together. good luck best of luck.
  12. Weather better now so i Fixed the central locking unit in the drivers door. nothing obvious wrong so i resoldered all the connections on the circuit board, put it all back and it now works! just a mot to pass now.
  13. no, snowing now. the door is getting worse, now it wont unlock from the remote at all. got new tyres and a service then a mot to sort so its at the back of the list.
  14. Yes. mine only opens on the second or third attempt, it was the second for a few weeks, now its the third 4th or i just give up and use the key. i am assuming that it is a loose solder joint inside the lock, but its too cold and wet to have a look, i will live with it until better weather arrives. there is a thread with a good explanation of how to fix it.
  15. The water is spraying out from the pump fitted to the back of the bottle, i have removed the retaining bolts for the bottle but i cant lift it up, any ideas how to get at it from below?
  16. Rear screen wash not working, but the water comes out from under the screen wash bottle when you give it a try, question: - can I get to the base of the bottle by removing the wheel arch lining or do I have to remove the engine to get to it cheers

  24. Check the fuse box, you may find that the fuse is damaged and the fuse box burnt, do it now as the alternator goes if you leave it. Andy
