  1. I've just completed this job on the ns of a 02 fabia. was a lot easier than i was expecting- took about an hour start to finish only 2 nuts to undo - the front wishbone bolt and the ball joint. separate ball joint by hitting the side of the carrier with a hammer. i cut the old bush with a knife while pulling the wishbone out. then pull and twist the inner part of the bush off the arm with mole grips once off the car. i hammered a screwdriver between the old bush and the console housing, this caused the bush to fold in and it came out easily. before fitting the new bush to the console squirt some wd40 in it and push onto the end of the arm, its stiff at first but as you do this, turning the bush over it becomes an easy slide fit. now fit the bush to the car, i used two plates made up for something else and a mountain bike wheel bolt(just what i had) note leaflet showing the bush orientation. i coated the outside with copper grease. the bush is bigger than the hole so was very springy but once lined up went in without too much hassle. squirt a bit more wd on the end if the arm and push into bush replace front bolt and ball joint. i fitted a standard febi bush which was £6.05 from my local motor factors.
  2. yup, bit of a pain to get to (front bumper off), otherwise was pretty easy to change.
  3. Update: the light didn't go off on its own so i replaced the pump with a £50 one from a braker, as soon as the new pump was in the light went off it didn't even need resetting in vcds. so the pump stores the fault codes and even though it said steering angle sensor, it was the pump itself. .
  4. both my sensors are working, i found a way to test them, with 12v on the left pin and 0v on the middle as you turn the wheel it gives a reading on the right pin, it goes from 1v to 9v in steps and back to 1v. also i tested them off the car with a 12v psu and just a screwdriver to simulate the rotor in the steering rack. they are both exactly the same so pretty sure they are working as intended. when testing in the car there is a yellow wire in the cable from the sensor to the pump which carries the reading. this is getting back to the pump on my car but it still not giving a reading in VCDS. i will give it time to pick up as i read it can take time for the pump to learn the sensor voltages, not sure if this is true. if not i think i am looking at a replacement pump.
  5. i'm still struggling with this. i think the sensor can go in either way. but i still get 0 in angular velocity with both sensors either way up should it move from 0 when i turn the wheel or does the car have to learn it has a working sensor? all the wiring is good. everything else seems to check out ok.
  6. I have the yellow steering wheel light on the dash, ross tech gives the following: 1 Fault Found 00816 - Power Steering sensor (G250) 37-00 Faulty if i reset it it comes straight back up. also in measuring blocks the steering angle velocity stays at 0 when i turn the wheel. the steering is working but when i turn quickly it feels stiff. i think the sensor should pick up the rate of turn and increase the pump pressure as needed and this is not happening. i've replaced the sensor for an identical used one from a Polo, when it came to refitting i realised it can go in either way, it looks like my sensor might have been in upside-down. there are some used racks for sale on ebay and they all show the plug on the right with the clip facing up, this the opposite way to how mine was. but the pics in this thread shows it the other way (same as mine): http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/24227-hello-steering-angle-sensor/ i've tried the new one both ways up and so far no improvement. no fuses are blown and the cable looks ok. with it disconnected comes up open or short to plus so it knows it's there. is there a way to calibrate the sensor? thanks
  7. Thanks again after a bit more searching i found out the brown one is for the air con pump. which could be why nothing happens when i press the switch. just need to find the other ends now. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/234593-air-con-troubles/
  8. thanks for the replies, the two wires hanging down turned out to be the outside temp sensor, that's now working again. still a mystery what the brown plug is, car never had front fog lights (no switch). the alternator is the other side and all looks ok.
  9. i have a 07 fabia 2 1.4tdi, there is a brown 2 pin connector hanging down under the front bumper near the power steering pump, one side comes from a thin y shaped branch coming from the loom (the other side of this y goes to a connector that is on a bracket on the engine). there was something connected to this brown plug as it had the broken other half of the plug with the pins partially pulled out. there is also two thin wires hanging down, these are yellow and white and brown and white. it looks like these might be meant to go to each other but they both seem to come from the same part of the loom above so not sure? the outside temperature display is not working, and the front bumper has been replaced. also the steering light on the dash is on but this might be unrelated as it reports the steering angle sensor is faulty. does anyone know if these two pairs of wires should be connected to each other or what they should be connected to?
