  1. Three years tomorrow! But bought recently so with one year warranty, so I'll try to go for the new switch. Thank you very much.
  2. ... on my SE (i.e. no Xenons, unfortunately). Driving into a mist patch last night, I went to pull out the switch to the fog lamp setting and it came away in me 'and, so to speak, pulling the pale grey plastic barrel of the switch out of the dash, but not far enough to reveal any wires. Gave me a bit of a turn, but fortunately the lights stayed on. I can't quite see how it's retained (clips at the back of the barrel?) and unwilling to deploy my mechanical remedy of choice (UHU) until I know how it works. Has anyone had this to pieces? Thanks in anticipation.
  3. We had the plug leads of our 1.2tsi eaten in the north east Netherlands, near Groningen, a couple of years ago. Just about made to the local dealer who fixed it and left for home €100 or so worse off. It's beech martens. the mechanic said "you are not the first!" Got a diesel now, in the hope that it's less attractive to the little blighters.
  4. We had a very large beech tree fall on our garden from next door in the storm early on Monday morning, straight down on the poor Yeti, rather remodelling the roof and lowering the suspension. However it was still possible to open the n/s doors, a tribute to the car's solidity. Off to buy another tomorrow, I think!
  5. Thank you very much... I'll get going!
  6. I bought a bumper protection strip 5L 071 360 (with the £100 servicing bung!) but, of course, now find that I should have also ordered Activator (Beta prime), cement (Terostat) and a template.... I can probably busk the last, if I'm careful, but wondered if the glues have common-or-garden versions that don't have VAG's mark up attached and I can just get from B&Q or wherever, or even if they're totally necessary. If someone's done-this-themselves I'd be grateful for their experiences. What I don't want to end up with is something half stuck on and half not!
  7. Thank you all, that's very helpful and interesting; though I still don't know what to do to prevent a recurrence, at least I know which rodent to send the bill to!
  8. Just back from a trip to the Netherlands. After two days parked in a neat suburban street the Yeti (1.2 tsi elegance) wasn't happy at all, misfiring, full set of warning lights etc. A trip to the local dealer (very efficient, thank you Broekhuis) who diagnosed rat damage. They'd nibbled three of the plug cables, completely severing one. All fixed quickly, but £100 we'd not planned on spending. Anyone else had this problem? And how to stop it happening again? The mechanic said that I Was Not Alone!
  9. I've always had my Skodas serviced by Express Garage in Herne Bay since they're very good, reliable and knowledgable (Pat, the chief mechanic, really knows his stuff). Now I've been told that their warranty repair franchise has been withdrawn, which is a real shame. Do SUK realise how much things like this alienate people? I've never been comfortable with the big dealers standards of "service" or prices. Is this withdrawing warranty franchises from smaller garages a new SUK policy? I had the idea that consumer legislation had stopped this kind of thing. :'(
  10. Thanks for that, but I think that there may be subtle differences between the Ipod and iphone (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647) which are causing the problem. There doesn't seem to be a way on either the Yeti or ipod to bring up a list of possible connections, like you can on a phone, so they just sulk and won't speak to each other. Back to the drawing board!
  11. Has anyone managed to pair an ipod touch (second generation, in my case) to a Bolero for a bit of audio streaming? The Yeti (Elegance 1.2) bluetooth is fine (Nokia pairs ok) and the ipod's bluetooth will pair with (eg) a computer ok, but I can't make the one discover the other and suspect that it may not be possible (Bluetooth profiles – ipod doesn't support hands-free profile). Any info very gratefully received. I know that it's easy enough to plug it in the Aux socket, but I hate wires trailing all over the place... Tony
  12. Last year I replaced a 2.0pd Ambiente hatch with a 2.0pd Elegance estate, both manual. the estate's engine feels rather different (less smoky, maybe a bit brisker but but rather peakier) and is a lot less economical at 20,000 miles (50mpg vs 60mpg). The reg document says it's a 2.0pd 8v... is that a different engine? I thought that they all had sixteen valves? Could the loss of economy be something else? Estate body? Wider tyres? Maybe I was just lucky with the Ambiente... Any advice gratefully received
  13. Out of the bx vRS SE, no remaps etc, on a 130mile round-trip commute, 55 to 65mpg, depending on whether you cruise at 80mph or 70mph. Also have an Octavie 2PD which is roughly similar (slightly slower vs newer engine/bigger car). You can see 70mpg in either if (a) you really go carefully and/or ( have good tail wind
  14. My vrs se loses it's fifth gear... always between 6 and 10 miles from home, after a cold start. You try to select fifth and it just ain't there (the gear lever is baulked – it'll go into sixth or back into fourth, but not into fifth). It soon clears. After a mile or two fifth reappears, but I'd rather it didn't happen at all. Has anybody had/cured this problem? The garage can't replicate it, so it doesn't exist! It like to get it fixed before the warranty runs out...
