  1. Thank You for comments. I'll contact the refurbished turbocharger supply as soon as they come back from holyday. Concerning the turbo replacement, I don't think mistakes have took place, because the work has been performed by a professional with a great knowdledge ad experience, who follows VW training courses. Moreover, I think a poor lubrication should produce problems at higher rpm and long runs, rather for a few seconds ad start (from cold). Anyway, I take your suggestion checking the pipe. The problem worries ad intrigues me at the same time, I'd like to understand what's the reason of one short high pitched strident cry, only at cold engine.
  2. Good evening everybody and thank you in advance. I had a crack on exaust manifold of my old (remapped) Fabia VRS, so the original turbo unit (Borg), has been replaced with a regenerated one (Garrett), already a few months ago. Since the beginning, when the engine is cold (I mean the car stopped for several hours) the new turbo unit makes an high pitched strident cry, in the range of 1500-1700 rpm. This "terrifying sound" takes place if you short shifting with gears (reaching 1500 slowly). On the opposite, reving a bit the gears (1st gear), that sound is so short it's diffcult to hear. I suspect this "screech", which totally disappears when engine is "just out of cold", has something to do with variable geometry external blades, which doesn't change their inclination unless the gases (stream) has some power and the unit temperature is "ambient". Do anyone confirms, or-and has a more technical explaination? The car already made some 3000 miles with the "new" turbocharger, the power looks as it was with the original Borg turbocharger, if not more, as well as acceleration. Can I keep this "effect" because isn't really dangerous, or it's better I require a replacement? (The turbocharger unit is under warranty, but work to replace will be at my expense)
  3. What's confusing me, are different part numbers (in the official service paper), for the same item and same engine (ASZ). I supposed it's the same turbo unit, where codes (just?) identify different brands/manufacturer supplier, but one or another fits and works. A confirmation or an explaination about this matter, is appreciated.
  4. Hello everybody and compliments about the forum. I tried to clear my doubt by reading previous post/threads, but I didn't succed very much (only found http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/127286-fabia-vrs-turbo-part-number-needed-asap/), so I bother you with my question. My Fabia VRs, 365000km (227000 Mi) got a nasty problem with manifold, which got broken. Turbo runs fine, but since manifold and turbo are in a single piece, I've to replace the whole unit. The engine of the car is ASZ, but I'm in doubt about the proper turbo replacement. My doubt arised because official service paper says to order the new turbo after the old one has been disassembled, checking some code numbers. The car is old, a lot of Km spent, but is perfect and mechanically fine (apart manifold), so I don't want it to tear down. The brand new turbo by official supply chain is crazily priced (1400€) and a refurbished one doesn't cost much less (1100€). I've found a refurbished one, which has 24 months warranty, which is priced 430€, or a brand new one, at half price than above. Now, I'm in doubt it this units will fit or not, because I've no other reference than engine model (ASZ). What else (if any) is there to check to order the right replacement unit? Is it enough knowing that's for a Fabia VRs with ASZ engine? May the different turbo codes named in the official service paper, only refer to different manufacturers of the turbo unit, but in practice are all suitable as they come? Answers, directions and suggenstions are welcome. Thank You in advance.
