  1. What worries me the most is the long term effect of a non stantard dimension like 215/50/17 at the 4x4's drivetrain reliability (ball/joints/driveshafts/etc..) Don't want to have any issues whatsoever. Does anybody know ?
  2. It all comes down to what roads the car is driven in. Tdis are nose heavy and should be efficiently shock absorbed in order to maintain long term reliability. Each and every gain in supleness without affecting handling is welcome. 50 profile is rewnowned for being the perfect balance...
  3. Mine has three settings esc off esc sport antispin off I just don 't know which is the oversteery albeit safe one to choose. Roads slip like hell where I live. When raining in the summer traction on summer tyres is worse than Norway 's frozen roads on winter ones..
  4. TDIs are long distance cruisers. Think of them as the Caravelles of cars. My 1.6 TDi takes 7 Kms to heat and delivers fuel efficiency when travelling more than 30 kms consequently. Sad truth is that petrol will always be the superior fuel in every aspect just not for impoverised Europe any more..
  5. I usually drive on slippery winding B-roads so I need a sharp turn in and plenty of grip while in the apex.
  6. Esc can be set off completely but I do not get the point of doing so. The goal to have a sportier and less blunt feeling albeit safe car eg like a Focus
  7. Wondering which of the following two will lead to a more sporty ( slight oversteer) behaviour. Turn antispin off or esc sport on ?
  8. Will definitely go for 205 50 17s or 55 s (11m height gain-probably too much..?) Propably Michelin Primacy 3 in XL type. Cushion is of outmost importance to me. 225 45 17s are 20% cheaper than 205 50 17s
  9. Rim ET is 49. I am also worried that altering the factory setup might put more stress to the transmision and suspension and lead to premature reliability issues. Any one knows how much full economy is achieved though downsizing to 205 width (for the same tyre type )
  10. Having already done a little research I will probaly opt for the Primacy 3 . Dunlop's Bluresponse gets good reviews also and is cheaper by a good margin. The Michelin get 60000 to 70000 klms warranty in the US though
  11. My concern is that 215/50/17s are larger and may scrub in the wheel arches when the suspension is compressed . I already had a 55 profile tyre blown up due to potholes and willdefinitely go for XL type this time so the extra profile height is a must. On the other hand 215/45/17s are a lot cheaper but they lower the car by 3-4mm.
  12. Thanks for your reply My reasons for considering this dimension is that i need a litttle bit extra height (6mm) and a fraction more cushion form the tyres, My rim width is 7 inch. I just hope they will not bump in the wheel arches when compresesd. Are the wheel arches same size as the 2014 Scout's ?
  13. I am thinking of fitting 215/50/17 summer tyres on my 1.6 tdi 4x4 2014 Octavia estate . 225 45 17s are too harsh when going through potholes. Will they fit?How will the car be affected?
