  1. Thanks for that. I've tried the run the water with the jets removed and nothing happens so either there's a blockage or a pipe off but I've foung nothing obvious so far. The jets did seem clear when I had them off
  2. I'm not getting any water to the rear screen wash. The jets are clear and the front screen and headlamp wash is fine. When operating the wash lever on the steering column I can hear a pump noise but no water gets to the rear. Can't see any obvious leaks. I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks. Shenendor
  3. Water pump: Labour + parts £229.96 Inc discount of 50% labour and 70% parts Timing belt parts (no labour, no discount): £188.84 I find the suggestion that the water is the problem astonishing. As you say, because its a closed system then you would have thought there was enough nous in the design specialists to come up with a water specification to cope with any potential problems. The fact that the pump has a revised part number suggests it's been modified, presumably to overcome the sticking problems. I also asked how the sleeve was controlled, the reply being via some sort of bimetal thermostat type device. I wonder if they really know. I might go back to them or even direct to Skoda to satisfy my curiosity (perhaps its just my OCD!) Edit: Labour discount should have read 50% - sorry re typo
  4. I have a Sept 2014 2L Tdi L&K which overheated a week last Monday after about 12 miles inc two stops. (6 and a half months out of warranty, 53000 miles). After looking under the bonnet and everything seeming ok the temperature stayed at 90 on restart and for the rest of the journey - another 6 miles. On the return trip it again started to rise but dropped back when I eased off. Spoke to Skoda at Rainworths, Mansfield who immediately said they thought they knew what was the problem and set up a diagnostic check. On further discussion they intimated there could be a goodwill contribution of between 50 and 70% "by the dealer" although I didn't believe that and I thought it would probably come from Skoda in the end. During the last 9 days the temperature gauge occasionally crept above 90 but always went back quickly. The check confirmed the water pump problem which was changed yesterday along with the timing belt and pulleys at my request and I got "goodwill contributions" of 50% labour and 70% on parts excluding of course the timing belt. I asked to see the old pump but he said it would have been packed for return by then!! I also asked what caused the problem. You'll like this - he said it was the water!!! Because it presumably was hard, when its hot then deposits occur (of calcium like on kettles?) and the sleeve stuck. They now use distilled or maybe de-ionised water he said. Can any of you techies out there confirm this or otherwise. I suppose its possible but surely the designers would take account of that and the new pump has certainly got the later part number mentioned in earlier posts (ending in "L"). With the convoluted and somewhat unlikely explanations and, to some extent, evasiveness on the contributions I'm beginning to wonder what the real truth of the problem is. Does anyone know for sure?
  5. I've been with LV for several years and they've been very good. My wife's insurance is with them too so we get a multi-user discount but they also usually remain the cheapest or close to it when I've checked the comparison sites. When I get the renewals I always ring them up to see if they can improve the price and almost without exception I get a decent reduction - 5% or more. If you don't ask you don't get!!
  6. Cracking meet today. My lady loved it as well so there's every chance we'll be at the next one!! Well done Gallo
  7. I firstly installed an E-Prance mini 0805 which overheated and failed within a day. Amazon replaced it but same result with no 2. Another refund! After more research and discussion with Mark Waddington at Car Camera Warehouse, he supplied a Hewlett Packard f800g which is brilliant and would meet all your specification. Admittedly it's more expensive and I just got one which I put in myself behind the rear view mirror. There's a thread about removing the glovebox on the Octavia to get to the fusebox and it's easier than you might think but I don't know if you need the same access on your car. The trickiest bit is re-latching the little stay. I'm now extremely expert at it. The wire can be tucked in at the top of the windscreen then run inside the pillar cover to the fuse box. Mine is fed from a piggy-back fuseholder from the rear wiper fuse to a new freestanding cigarette lighter socket (hidden behind the removable cover at the left end of the dash) into which you put the power plug on the supplied camera wire (recommended to me to ensure the camera supply is to spec - make sure polarity is correct). This means the camera is on/off with the ignition. For a permanent supply obviously you'll need a fuse that's permanently powered or take the wiring to the power socket which on my car is near the gear stick and is always powered. Highly recommend the camera and my supplier who put himself about to resolve some minor installation problems. Hope this helps.
  8. I had to return two 0805's for refund, both of which overheated and failed after less than two days. Did more research, particularly through Car Camera Warehouse, and bought a Hewlett Packard f800g, admittedly more expensive but is superb. Can highly recommend CCW - Mark Waddington went out of his way to resolve some minor problems, even coming over from Manchester and meeting me near Sheffield to sort them out.
  9. Just for info on dash cams, I got a mini 0805 which overheated and failed within a day - replaced by Amazon. No 2 also failed for same reason on second day. Got money back and did more research via Car Camera Warehouse. Finally got a Hewlett Packard f800g which admittedly is more expensive but is absolutely superb. Service from CCW was terrific - Mark Waddington really put himself about to resolve some minor problems, even taking time off to come over from Manchester to meet me near Sheffield to do the fixing. Highly recommended.
  10. How about Whitby? The fish and chip restaurant that is, just off the Sheffield Parkway near Morrisons and Boundary Mill. I could make that my second visit as Guiseley was more than a bit of a trek from Rotherham.
  11. Thanks for info Mr G. Can I pick your brains again, or anyone else's for that matter, for a little more knowledge please. What software is best for viewing the footage? I've noted Registrator Viewer is apparently a free download but are there better ones that are free or at moderate costs?! I'm hoping to have done the installation by this weekend.
  12. Hi Mr G Also just got an 0805 so I'd be very interested to know how you completed the installation. Which side of the mirror did you mount it and where have you run the wiring to hide it sufficiently. Where did you get the power from and are there any issues with the performance?
  13. I appreciate the note re VCDS but being an auto ignoramus in this field are there any places in South Yorkshire other than Skoda dealers who could do the service interval re-setting and would it have to be part of a service; would that service be more economical than aforesaid Skoda? Would appreciate any help.
  14. I'm in a very similar situation having just bought an Octavia L & K 2.0 Tdi CR with 10500 miles on it, ex-demo. I asked for a service from the dealer (presumably just oil change and odds and sods) even though its on variable servicing, so I could get 20K before the next one but my main concern about independent servicing is whether my mechanic (who is very good) will be able to reset the service interval with a non-Skoda computer (he couldn't do my last car - a Seat Exeo Sport). If he can't then it negates the flexible principle. Anybody got experience of this please?
