    MPG

I've had my 1.6TDI DSG for a bit over 3000km now. I have fuelled up the car 4 times, and each time the range has been between about 730-750km, and the overall average MPG is 49.xx (17.55km/l). The Long-Term average speed and MPG indicated on the MID are 36km/h (22mph) and 19.2km/l (54.xx MPG).
  2. If the ACC is tracking a car which comes to a stop at a traffic light, then my car stops too. But, if the ACC is enabled and it is not tracking any car and then I arrive at a traffic stop where there are some cars already stopped, then the ACC does not react. Here is what the manual says: My car behaves exactly as above. The ACC in the Octavia behaved differently.
  3. The adaptive cruise control in the Karoq does not detect stationary objects. Of course, the manual mentions this. I had the adaptive cruise control in the Octavia before and its manual also mentioned the same limitation - but the ACC in the Octavia was pretty good at detecting for eg: stationary cars at traffic stops and bringing the car to a stop. I wish the ACC in the Karoq behaved the same way.

    Engine Choice

I have the 1.6TDI in the Octavia and a recent 800-km round trip (including some driving in heavy traffic within cities) returned 65MPG according to the MID for the whole trip (actual MPG was 60 when I refueled after the trip). My car had 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids) and luggage for 4 days. I had a friend with me on the trip driving his new Karoq 1.6TDI DSG, which had done less than 500 miles when we started the trip. It showed 52MPG for the onward journey and 60MPG for the return journey according to the MID. His car had 5 people (3 adults, 2 kids) and luggage for 4 days. For the first 2 years of my Octavia ownership, I used to do short trips every working day (office was only 6km away from home). I have never had the DPF light come on. My average consumption over 3+ years has been about 46MPG, About 30% of my 23300+ miles have been on highway trips.
  5. Digital dash is now listed as an optional extra in Finland for all variants. Costs around €540 in the Edition spec.

    Dashcam

My Octavia has a heated windscreen and I have been using a dashcam with suction mount for nearly a couple of years now. There have been no issues.
  7. I was expecting my friend's Karoq, which will be delivered later this week, to be my first customer Karoq spotting. But, I spotted a white one today.

    Delivery times

Finally got some positive news about my order. It's a 1.6TDI Style DSG with some options. The order was placed late in December. About a month back, the dealer told me that the issue could be with the Triton alloys I ordered, and asked if I would like to change to the standard alloys. I agreed to change about 10 days back. Today, the dealer told me that my order has been allocated BW24, so the car could be delivered sometime in mid-to-end July.

    Delivery times

My Karoq 1.6L TDI Style DSG was ordered at the end of December. I still have not received a BW. Today, the dealer asked me if we could try changing the alloy wheel choice from Triton to the standard alloys, as Triton alloy wheels seem to be negatively affecting delivery times. Has anyone else heard this? It's a bit surprising as my friend who ordered his Karoq with almost the exact same configuration as mine (including the alloy wheel choice) a week after me is getting his car built this week.
  10. My average over nearly 32500km is 16.53km/l (just under 47mpg). Average refuel distance has been 616km (382 miles). Over the last one year, average daily run has gone up to nearly 45km (from about 15). For this period, average mpg has been about 49mpg, with refuel distance averaging about 704km (437 miles).
  11. Count yourself lucky. Here in Finland, my order went in on 28/12 and I haven't got a build date yet!!
  12. I think both Moon White and Candy White would look almost the same on the Karoq. When I went to the Skoda showroom, they had a white Karoq on display next to a white Kodiaq. After spending a good 10 minutes checking out the Karoq, I remarked to my wife that the car's colour was the same Candy White as our Octavia. That's when the salesman corrected me and told us that the Karoq was actually in Moon White and the Kodiaq was in Candy White. Then I took a few steps back from the car and the colour on the Karoq looked a bit different, but still quite close to that of the Kodiaq parked next to it. I thought they would look more different in sunlight. The next day I visited the showroom during the day with a couple of friends. They made the same mistake as I did, until I told them that the cars were in different shades of white. The cars were inside the showroom on both occasions, so perhaps if they were both outside in the sun they would've looked more different. If you really like Moon White, go for it. Otherwise, I would suggest to stick with Candy White and save some money.
  13. I noticed the same during my TD of the Karoq. Do you have the "Auto Hold" feature enabled in your Karoq? It is designed to hold your car in place without you having to keep your foot on the brakes all the time. So, the engine shouldn't start if you take your foot off the brake. I drive the Octavia 1.6TDI DSG and the engine comes to life if I take the foot off the brakes. My Octavia does not have "Auto Hold".
  14. I have experienced this many times. I was surprised the first couple of times. Now I expect this to happen in similar situations and I am always prepared to put my foot on the gas pedal if it does.
  15. I have had the 1.6TDI DSG for over an year now and I am quite happy with it. I am not a pedal-to-metal type of driver and for me the 1.6 TDI is adequate in terms of power and performance. I make frequent short trips and so the MPG was awful during the winter (less than 30mpg) but with rising temperatures, it is now around 46mpg for a tankful.
  16. I got this message on the MID about a week back. My car has KESSY and is 13 months old. I have the Webasto remote and one of the keys in the same key ring and I used that key during the winter months. So both keys have been used during these 13 months. I ignored the warning for a few days and now, interestingly, I haven't seen the message in the past couple of days.
  17. Websato uses diesel to pre-heat the vehicle. The specifications say that it uses 0.2L fuel for 20mins of heating. Even taking that into account, there is still a gap between the MFD and actual consumption. I guess it's safe to say that MFD over-estimates the fuel economy and Websato under-estimates the fuel usage. Maybe the MFD does not take into account the DPF regeneration either?
  18. I got similar figures (8.3km/L or 24mpg) from my 1.6TDI DSG with similar usage pattern - cold (around -10 every day), short trips to office (7km one way) plus Webasto usage every time. This figure is from tank-to-tank calculations. Covered 334km on a full tank before the low fuel warning came on. MID showed 13.7km/L or 39mpg. I too noticed many regens during that time. During the last refill, the consumption figure was 11.6km/L or 33mpg while MID showed 15.2km/L or 43mpg. Usage pattern was similar, except that it wasn't as cold (still around 0 on most days) and the Webasto wasn't used as much.
  19. We did 2700 miles over the summer where the car returned nearly 58MPG. That has really helped the overall average. What is "the fix" that you have mentioned? That 64mpg figure is about as high as I've ever had.
  20. I have a 1.6 TDI DSG, which returned just under 24MPG for the last fuel-up. I am a low mileage driver - about 10 miles a day. During the last one month, I used the Webasto every working day, twice a day for about 20 minutes each time. The temperature was usually 10 to 15 degrees below 0. I also noticed frequent regens, Is 24MPG what I should expect in these circumstances? Long term average (over about 6K miles) stands at about 47 MPG.
  21. By any chance, is it the start-stop system kicking in when you put your foot on the brake before shifting from D or R? Start-stop is not always available and the activation also depends on how much pressure you put on the foot brake - that could be why you don't see the problem every time. I know it has happened to me.
  22. I have the 1.6TDI with DSG7. A couple of times while running around in the city in low gears (places with 30 or 40kmph limit) with constant slowing down/speeding up, I have felt that the DSG seems to be reluctant to shift up in D mode (holds gears longer than normal, especially shifting from D1->D2->D3). I have read that an on-going regen can cause slight loss of power. Can the DSG's reluctance be put down to an on-going regen? Is this normal behaviour for the DSG?
  23. I noticed that the CO2 emission for the Greenline has gone up to 90 from 85 and that of the 1.6 TDI DSG I have has gone down to 99 from 104. Interesting!
  24. The Sound Meter app on my Android phone measures 34db interior noise in my car at idle. That "sounds" reasonably quiet.
