  1. Oooops - uploaded wrong photo - connector at my door lock is this one....
  2. Is this the correct loch mechanism (driver side, rear) for a Mk1 Vrs estate? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Door-Lock-Actuator-Rear-Right-Fits-VW-Golf-Beetle-Passat-Seat-Leon-Skoda-Octavia/172296562660?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 I ask because the electrical connector profiles look slightly different....here are the wiring blocks on my door....and the old lock
  3. Currently doing this on rear passenger door - great fun! Has anyone got a link to the best ebay replacement locks for a Mk1 vRS estate?
  4. Bah - I'm in a similar position regarding MOT woes but think I try to get another couple of years out of it. Mainly fairly straightforward stuff like tyres, brakes, springs, shocks and a full exhaust, but the rear door lock is foxing me at the moment!
  5. Hi - wondering if the hubs from a 2002 TDI will fit a 2005 Mk1 VRS? Brake caliper mounting bolt recess thread is goosed on my VRS and as I'm likely to be breaking my TDI, thought I'd check hub compatibility.........I know the wheels are identical dimensions but the brakes and discs are different, so I'm guessing the caliper mounting locations may also differ cheers
  6. If you want to put it like that, yes. Coolant is going somewhere but we can't identify where. Car runs perfectly apart from coolant loss/overheating
  7. - has the cooling system been pressure tested?.................................yes - do you have a physical leak?...............................................................not a visible one - has the cap been tested?.....................................................................no - has the cooling system been tested for exhaust gas?.....................don't know - has the thermostat been checked?....................................................yes - is there coolant flowing back to the reservoir via the return?........yes - do the cooling fans operate?..............................................................yes - does the heater get hot? ....................................................................sometimes yes, sometimes no
  8. 2002 1.9TDI ran out of MOT yesterday - no big issues there. However its been plagued by a serious coolant leak, overheating, boiling over, airlocks in the system for several months now, none of which my mechanic of self have been able to resolve. Can make it 50 miles with no problem, or it can boil after 4 miles. Right now its been sitting for 2 days with no coolant in the upper rad hose and expansion tank is full. Replaced several seals, hose clips and so on but no obvious signs whats casuing the problem. Latest thoughts from mechanic is the leak is in heater matrix, which appears to be a right pain in the Kirkstone Pass to get to. Complete dashboard/fascoia disassembly according to Haynes, also involving drilling out sections of supporting metalwork and fabricating new bits 🤬 Is it really that bad if that's where the leak indeed is? Car due MOT now but no point putting it through if coolant issue is to be a major operation at just short of 220k miles. Might be a breaker once I've removed everything which fits my vRS........including a fine set of winter wheels.
  9. Sorted for now - swapped the motor from my 2002 TDI, which is identical part number in my case, and all is good once again. TDI is a different story - to be told elsewhere........
  10. OK - got the motor and linkage out and separated the motor from linkage arms. Linkage on its own seems to move freely from side to side with very little effort from me. I'm unable to rotate the spindle on the motor however, unless I try quite hard with a spanner on spindle nut..........seized motor then? Is there an easy way to test it linking up directly to a 12v battery or some other way? ***EDIT - Brief update - reattached motor only to its electrical connector and ran an earth wire from one of the motor mounting bolt holes to the frame and checked for continuity electrical between the two points......flicked wiper switch on but still no activity at motor. No noises, no movement. Washer jets function fine so thinking switch is fine and motor is dud. Anything else I can check?
  11. Tried wiggling - no joy yet. i presume its ok to connect a battery directly to the motor, but which of the five connectors should I put a +ve wire to, or doesn't it matter?
  12. Thanks - I'll give the wiggle about thing a go then see about a replacement motor unit. Great fun coming over the Cairn O Mount yesterday!
  13. Well my front wipers ceased working yesterday in the rain. Now locked in the "down" position. Washer jets work, front and rear and I've swapped fuses with no joy so suspect the fault is the wiper switch or the wiper motor itself. Any common faults with these or is it just a case of pulling the motor and/or switch and replacing one or both? Any other tests that can be done? Car is Mk1 VRS estate with around 210k miles. cheers
  14. Also if i search G002000 on euro parts there is nothing....argh
  15. OK - same position here - need to get some power steering fluid into the car. Local garage has generic Comma and STP stuff but no labelling to confirm it's suitable for the Vrs which wants G 002 000 according to the manual. Nearest Skoda dealer approx 50 miles away. any advice or to I have to drive to Dundee/Aberdeen?
  16. Hi car is 2005 vRS and under hard acceleration it seems to "lurch" forward in a pulsating manner - sort off feels like handbrake is being applied slightly and rhythmically whilst accelerating or fuel not being delivered smoothly. Pulsing is every half second or so - really weird sensation. All other aspects seem fine. Any ideas?
  17. I have this intermittently on a 2002 model. Last night took a couple of minutes of hitting door with fist to get it open. Could hear ratchet of deadlock trying to work but failing to unlock. As I say, kept hitting door beside lock whilst locking and unlocking car from driver door control panel and it eventually unlocked. Time for a new lock I guess as power seemed to be getting to the motor so ruling out wiring problem I think.
  18. Jeezus - I've just found the motorbike thread on Briskoda and now find there's a cycling one too ---aaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!! Here's a pic on me trusty Cinder Cone on the way to Ben Alder about 5 years ago....
  19. Had bikes for around 35 years. Have a few in my collection. Here's a quick photo o' me '71/'73 Bitsa Bonnie..............
  20. Apologies for this but - is there a RetroBiker in the house?
  21. Thanks for that @KenONeil - I'll have a look there.....in the meantime I've acquired a Mk1 vRS estate to go along with it
  22. Mechanic says turbo is shot and requires replacement, also there is a lot of pressure building up in the crankcase when engine hot. Says new turbo may or may not solve problem due to suspected worn rings/bores. Boo. Now has 201k miles so possibly not worth all the work
