the truth about electric cars
Hopefully some good deals like with Boxt boilers, ie £12 a month when they were saving more than that. One of Scotland's greatest sons, IMO, actor Brian Cox, not the astrophysics guy, was promoting and I have lots of respect for him. Hopefully some freebies from counculs, Octopus forcthe needy. I actually only use about 200w during the day time and electricty bit cheaper after 1900 usually. Also Octopus will be doing batteries next year which can be a big saving. Also would lije to see Octopus and others doing long term repayment so people using the saving to buy over 3 years or so. All doable and a chance this will happen much more than the previous governments.

the truth about electric cars
Many of these are national choices. Lots of people in the 26 counties of Southern Ireland go to the 6 northern counties on the island of Ireland to buy children's cloths as zero rated in the 6 counties but a positive VAT in the 26. The tampax VAT was a good example where is was EU requirement to have some VAT on the product, so wrong. The common customs tariff is one area the UK got some freedom ie many items duty is 6% and not 6.5%, wow. The UK does maintain dynamic alignment, mainly due to the mess of the arrangement with the two parts of Ireland. Love the complexity. As I said before we have to be raising a good trillion pounds of indirect taxes to support the direct tax take to buy our national bills. The margins on cloths can be truly staggering. the import duties and VAT are a small part of the elements from manufacture in CN, VN or wherever to the price in the shops I have seen looking at the buy prices on import invoices to declare. JRM is a tw*t.

the truth about electric cars
6 months sounds fair to me, in the April to September period normally we would be expecting to use less electricity and therefore the VAT makes less different. What even the more aware of us did not expect was the high prices of electricity due to the very high summer temperatures taking out so many European power station, so expensive or non existent inter European interconnector prices and our own UK power stations operating less efficiently, and therefore more expensive dure to the high UK temperature reduce our power station efficiency. Added to the above I expect millions of people in the UK to be be benefiting from balcony solar so this will clip the amount of power being used so could drive up prices for those not having balcony solar as electricity suppliers try to maintain profits on reduced sales of electricity. I think many will not by their balcony setup until next spring to wait until our sun, Sol, returns to the northern hemisphere. Octopus doing a 500w kit for £450, pay back time about 4 years I would mount the single 450w panel on one of my solar arrays to increase harvesting by about 40% to track the sun. This would relate some of my 120 w panels to fence based, couple perhaps East facing to collect morning sun and couple on West facing to collect evening sun. VAT can be reviewed and set to collect some many to pay down the massive UK debt and fund policy whilst not being too onerous to consumers.

the truth about electric cars
I think we could have zero rated electricity before but coukd be wrong, what you cannot have is too many different rates ie you can have zero, super sensitive, sensitive, standard and high. I would like to see a 10% rate for public charging perhaps and other goods and maybe other rates, 15, 25 etc. I recall rates of 8, 10 12.5, 15, 17.5% we have had in the UK. In my tax collectors roll one gad to learn new fractions to work out tge tax base from the retail price. Currently 20/21 ths, but previous interestingly feactions like 40 / 47 ths. The fun never ended !

Plunge oricing on many public charging networks. Negative electricity prices yesterday, today and Agile Predict reckons for tomorrow currently. T minus 25 days for Zero VAT on home electricity !

Not just smooth but good body control by using advanced multilink suspension rather than torsion as oft used in B segment cars. Paired with low centre of gravity too. Much better than my first Renault 5 Campus of decades ago.

the truth about electric cars
Good to drive too with its suspension geomerty. 18 inch wheels bit big and I wish uk had the All Season option with 16s or 17s. Other than that ok for a 2 or 3 adult seater and 1 or 2 smallish kids.

No definitely the R5. I had hopes for the R4 but back seats just as restrictive as R5, boots is good but just not as good a looker as the 5 IMO. Discounts on R4 and availability better accordingly.

the truth about electric cars
I am interested in the upgrades and more so the cheapest of them. Wish Renault brought the "Five" version, was 95 hp, now 107 hp and now FLP which is what I was expecting my 40 /43 kwh version to be.. Should be well under £20k with the EV grant. Not sure Twingo will sell that well. Sandero EV should though. https://media.renault.com/the-renault-5-e-tech-electric-range-gains-fresh-appeal-with-greater-efficiency-range-and-versatility-right-from-entry-level-along-with-new-colours-and-features/?lang=eng Increased range for existing versionsRenault 5 E-Tech electric is now even more versatile. Both battery options – the 40 kWh Urban Range and the 52 kWh Comfort Range – gain increased range through aerodynamic enhancements (lower body and new rearview mirrors) and optimised battery electronics. The 40 kWh Urban Range battery, available with the Evolution and Techno versions and paired with a 90 kW (120 hp) motor, now achieves an WLTP range of up to 315 km, compared with 312 km previously. While the 52 kWh Comfort Range battery, available with the Evolution, Techno, Iconic Cinq and Roland-Garros versions and paired with a 110 kW (150 hp) motor, now achieves a WLTP range of up to 430 km, compared with 410 km previously . An optimised Five versionStill available in the 95 hp / 40 kWh configuration, the current entry-level Five model is set to become more powerful, more efficient and more versatile in just a few weeks. It is set to swap its current powertrain for a new, compact, lightweight 80 kW/110 hp motor, from the same family as Twingo E-Tech electric. It will be powered by a 36.5 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery with cell-to-pack technology, designed to optimise energy density in relation to its size and weight. The result is a WLTP range of up to 305 km, with no compromise on performance since the 0–50 km/h sprint takes just 3.5 seconds, for a responsive and enjoyable driving experience. And for even greater versatility, alongside the 6.6 kW AC onboard charger, the new Five level trim of Renault 5 E-Tech electric will ship as standard with an 80 kW DC charger, allowing it to use fast-charging points.

Only 1 R5 in the Midlands that I can see. Being a Baggy i fear for my life going to Dingle Berry land !

See my comment above. One might seriously regret putting one's deposit down. 38% of customers on Trust Pilot only give this dealer 1 star..... https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.cars2.co.uk?stars=1

the truth about electric cars
Could be wrong and doing a disservice but there are a bunch of dealers who say that can get you a car, take your deposit and only fulfill the order weeks or months later. This might be one of those case as I gather they are clustered together in a certain part of the UK !

the truth about electric cars
I tend to concentrate on the numbers rather than the text. Comments are deductions and not hard facts like the numbers of the 1.8M sample stating EVs drove 444 miles more than ICE on average. The good point is that driving miles were down thru Covid and have remained lower since the Covid outbreak. One also hears, supported by numbers who are visiting camp sites, towing and not towing, were down and the cost of driving to them due to petrol and diesel prices was a major factor being mentioned. If one has chosen an EV camper, ID Buzz, PV5 and now the PV7 coming out next week, this may not be anything like the issues with cost for putting in the go-go juice being so different EV to ICE.

Negative electricity rate in the middle of today. Sunday looking good to for zeroish rates. Interesting fact, Henry Winkler did not ride motorcycles, also Daniel Craig has only got an automatic car licence !!

the truth about electric cars
Older report from the RAC... https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/electric-vehicles-news/what-range-anxiety-ev-drivers-rack-up-more-miles-than-those-using-tradition/ But newer one using Solera CAP data, 1.8M sample size from last year.. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/366358/evs-are-officially-covering-more-miles-ice-cars EVs do over 5% more miles on average.

Oh yeah, ta.

the truth about electric cars
And cars registered on the road are not necessarily the ones doing the miles. RAC reports than EVs are doing more miles per car than ICE cars. Just talking to my Renault Dacia Sales guy and he is telling me that they are struggling to get enough 5s for customers such is the demand and even ordering now might mean the car next year. So many new EV models on the way, updates for 5 and Scenic as well as Sandero EV version although Dacia still planning to do a petrol version. Diesel long gone i gather. VWs future looks to gang on the ID2 variants and whilst the Polo looks good and not bad spec the Raval and Epiq look better and better value. Looks like a dire situation for VW in Germany as these ID2 variants are Spanish made I gather. Polo, Fabia, Ibiza production ending. There is clearly only one direction for the dominant power train for all vehicles. As Yazoo said, the only way is up.

Slower EV charging was my main concern. Hope to have 3 phase at the next place.

the truth about electric cars
I have not heard any credible supports of such. All our EVs and numerous home batteries seem very good at copping with electrical inputs and tvay xan be wrong polarity, voltages outside range. My experience over lastc5 years. I am concerned about this move by the UK Grid to continue to rachet done the voltage from 240v down towards mainland Europe's 220v as I think that could cause a number of issues.

the truth about electric cars
Really quite small, not much bigger than a shoe box. Certainly lesson learned about charging up when one stops for even 15 minutes and half full if it is going to give one enough to complete the whole journey and battery is going to be warm to accept good charge rate although the charging from 59% to 90% or invariably slower than the charging from 19% to 50% is the reality. Nice cheap sub 10p a KWh today and looks even cheaper for tomorrow 4th of September and even cheaper than that, possibly negative, on the weekend ahead. Hopefully some plunge pricing at public charges due to over abundance of wind and solar generation as we approach the autumnal equinox.

the truth about electric cars
Only of fuel pumps giving engine wrecking fuel as Tescos did and I think there gas been other similar instances. DC and AC charges seem to work or not work and I have not heard of battery wrecking over amperage or over voltages thankfully. EVs systems seem good at controlling the amperage and voltages where ICE vehicles will readily accept contaminated fuel, fuel with water in it or the wrong fuel entirely petrol in a diesel car is it not but other way round does not happen due to different nozzle sizes.

the truth about electric cars
Not the 5 kwh battery with 6 kw supply but the little sub 20 kg power supplies, only longer journeys, no problem, don't take up much space, make sure one has the tyre pressures pumped up but one is only adding 1% or so to the weight as most EVs are already in the 1.5T to 2T zone. Not like the days when my mini, ford escort etc weight less than half the current vehicle weights. Would only be on those odd months I do a 200 miles plus journey having learnt that public chargers are still nowhere near 99% reliable.
