  1. Rearward vis is still not the best, but far better tha the previous model. And you have 3 camera angles to help with parking. The suspension has vastly improved. Multilink rear suspension now makes the comfort and handling up with the best. Also adjustable dampers should be fun. It feels as comfortable as my Superb and definitely quiter with less road noise. Not as big of course inside, but externally it's nearer the previous accord size than last model Civic. Magic seats have unfortunately gone. Now rear seat passengers have room for their feet under the front seats with the fuel tank being moved from here to under the back seat. Will miss the Superb, but with my changed driving a petrol makes better sense. (After nearly a million miles on diesels!)
  2. The deal I did a while ago was for the 171 Plate. Though it could be 172 when my car arrrives. If Honda have in 171 then I will have to take car. If I loose my place it could be Nov before I get a car.
  3. Only a lacklustre 1.2 TSI here in the Octavia, or the full blown Superb which is mega money. Ireland was almost totally diesel, though this is starting to change. The tax system ecouraged people to buy diesel, also it's about 15C cheaper at the pumps. VW are selling the 150 Hp TSI I think in the Golf, but not a Golf fan. Ford have the 1L Focus with 125 HP but not the 150 like in the UK. The new Honda Civic has been launched with a very full spec which I have bought. 182 HP from a 1.5L turbo. Hope to have in the next few weeks. I love the looks, some don't. it's certainly a very smooth performer. They also have a 1L 3 cylinder 127HP model, which will probably be a great seller here. So there we are, if Skoda had something similar for similar money I would stay with the marque.
  4. Yes, probably the best cared for car I have ever owned. One tiny stone chip on bonnet, otherwise showroom. Only 33K Kms. Enjoy the cycling, but I will own up to the bike also being electric assist.. Almost a neccessity here where I live with the hills.
  5. Yes looking forward to it. My driving has changed a lot over the last year. Petrol makes sense now, only doing about 15 K Kms a year. Also kids growing up and rarely in car. The only complaint I have with the Skoda is I find it hard to get a very comfortable driving position. Being long legged, when I have the leg adjusted correctly then the steering wheel is too far from me even when adjusted fully back. Means I have to put the seat back too much upright. The honda immediately felt a better driving position for me. Also the Honda comes standard specced exactly as I would like it. Things like opening moonroof, LED Lights, Adjustable dampers. Not sure if I am over fond of all the electronic safety array, but you can always turn them off. Also well priced here in Ireland for such a complete car. Same price here as UK + exchange rate. Which is unusual. See you around, N
  6. Waiting on new Honda Civic 1.5 S-GT. Looking forward to 182 HP. Watch out for a metallic blue boy racer..!
  7. Thank you, it.s a very energetic ride.. takes all of 3 minutes..!
  8. Thank you, I have a feeling I will be back.. Great cars..
  9. Thanks for all the help over the last few years, a great forum with great people. Leaving Skoda, no need any more for a diesel with so much space. Loved the car, not I single problem. Best wishes to you all, Nigel.
  10. Hi, just to say thanks for all the help over the last two years. I'ts a great forum even though I haven't been posting much over the last year. I am leaving Skoda. Car has been great but my driving has changed a lot over the last year. I now cycle or walk to work and do not need the space, so Petrol for me now. Best wishes to you all, Nigel.
  11. My 1.6 Superb was in for service last week with Skoda Garage here in Ireland. Told them I didn't want the fix done, however was told was not yet available for the 1.6 Diesel.
  12. Congratulations, looks fab. If you see a flash from a 151 metallic brown it's me....!
  13. Congrats Superb 170, looks great. Will keep a watch out in Waterford.....
  14. I will never let a Skoda dealer wash my car again. It was done unknown to me on my first service and upon collecting car I noticed swirl marks all over my pristine car. It had to go back for a few days for paint correction. Apparently they used an automatic rotary brush washer, something I would never have agreed to.
  15. I find the same. Usually better travelling North, probably because the wind is normally from the southern sector. Recently I travelled south for about 200 kms into a storm. Car was fairly heavy and would not pull sixth gear, sometimes even fifth was a bit of a struggle on the motorway gentle inclines. Got the worst MPG ever, about 40.
  16. All good points above. I noticed my tyres had dropped about 4 psi with the cooler weather. My winter MPG is about 5 MPG or so less than summer, warm up times taking longer and also extra friction on roads with all the salt and wet. Keep AC off unless needed. Only use cruise if feeling lazy! Also try taking off your shoes! Gives you better feel of throttle.
  17. Not sure if he was talking about a factory option, sounded more like an in house option
  18. There is a quartz grey (I think!) Superb 111 Style in Donohoes Skoda Enniscorthy showroom, not too far a drive from you. There was also a light grey outside (With dark leather interior), so was easy to compare the two. The showroom car has the beige leather. Looked a lovely colour combination, the only thing we thought not quite right was the silver interior trim, but thats a personal thing. The Sales Manager mentioned this could be easily changed to a darker colour, or wood effect.
  19. Anyone notice their MPG is taking a bit of a hit in this weather? I religiously fill brim to brim and calculate my MPG rather than relying on the Maxidot which is always over optimistic (Normally between 6 and 12%). Real MPG normally between 57 and 62. However lately has been between 50 and 54. Mostly I would say due to very wet roads, you can actually feel the extra drag at times. Also the strong winds don't usually help. Plus of course the extra loading on the electrics and the longer warm up times. Actually, lately with lower MPG the MPG shown on the maxidot has become quite accurate.
  20. Apparently Leonardo De Caprio's film production company has bought the rights to make a film about the Volkswagen emissions scandal. (True) To be called "Emission Impossible" .... (Not my joke - Heard on the radio yesterday)
  21. I made a tongue-in-cheek remark about 10 days ago that I might end up with the new Euro 6 1.6 Diesel as a replacement for my lowly 1.6 Euro 5. I may not have been wrong....
  22. What's the betting that they Remap/Chip the engine and then apply the correct emission software. Car should end up the same or better. Probably what they did to achieve Euro 6 here in the first place.
  23. As someone who owns both a hybrid and a diesel, we find that we can get fairly close to the combined official MPG on both cars, but a little closer with the diesel. The main advantage of the Hybrid engine is that it is an Atkinson cycle engine which runs at a more efficient speed and the battery is used at slow speeds and as a boost like a Turbo charger. I have no reason to disbelieve the CO2 figures of either car, whatever about the NOx of the diesel.
