  1. I have a 2009 1.2 Roomster which has bad radio reception. The aerial is at the front of the car. I have managed to locate the aerial connector behind the interior light and tried to check the resistance between the the cable and the aerial with a multimeter. It seems to be open circuit. Is there an amplifier in the base unit which will explain the open circuit or should there be some small resistance reading? Also the aerial does not fully unscrew from the base. I can unscrew the aerial 10 mm then it just turns and will not come out. Should this happen or is the base unit faulty. Does anyone know how much a new aerial and base will cost and what is the part number. I do not trust the ones on ebay. Thanks Martin
  2. I have a Fabia 1.9SDi and was thinking about buying a set of snowchains (tyre size 165/70 R14). Last year I could not get up the local hill twice due to snow (my Fabia does not seem to cope with any depth of snow). Can any one recommend a make of snowchains? I have also seen the snow socks but I cannot find an independent review of them as to whether they are any good. Thanks Martin
  3. Sound similar to what happened to my car except it all happened with in a few miles. The engine started to sound different (as if the exhaust was blowing), then it began to misfire. Got home with the engine still running. Stoppped and started the engine again then nothing. I did not think it was the cambelt as it had been changed recently.
  4. Once the engine is repaired will it be like any engine that has done 55K miles or will it be prone to braeking down again?
  5. It has been agreed that it was a component failure. The person who did the original cambelt is a freind and he is worried that they will not look for all the damage due to cost.
  6. Has anyone had a cambelt tension fail after three weeks? I had a new cambelt and tensioner fitted at the end of May as my Fabia SDi needed its MOT and it has done 55K so I thought I would get it done at the same time. The garage used a genuine VW/Skoda kit but three weeks later the tension failed which has done a lot of damage to the engine (just what I was trying to avoid!!). I has been decided that VW/Skoda will foot the bill. What sort of damage is done to the engine and does it require a new engine? The garage that did the work wants to repair the engine as he does not trust Skoda will do a full repair.
  7. I have fitted the new radio/cd along with a signal separator (PC5-52). I have wired the blue wire from the signal separator to the Switched Supply as the automatic aerial (pin 5 on the ISO connector) is permanantly +12 volts. I checked the old Skoda radio and there did not seem to be +12 volts on the center of the aerial out socket. It was only a quick check so I may not have had it set up correctly.
  8. I have just checked some of the ISO wires with a multimeter. Pin 5 (automatic aerial) is +12 volts all the time (with or without the ignition key in). I removed the radio and found that it was still 12 volts i.e. the the car wiring loom is providing the 12volts. Does this seem right as I thought this pin was an OUTPUT FROM THE RADIO? Pins 5 and 7 of the ISO loom (car side) are both the same colour. Is my car different to later models (mine is 2001). If I connect the in line amplifier to pin 5 then the battery will flatten if left for long periods. Has anyone any ideas?
  9. I have just had a look at the ISO connector on my 2001 FABIA. There is already a wire coming out of pin 5 (automatic aerial). Does this wire actually do anything? If I buy a PC5-52 amplifier/filter will I have to somehow connect these two wires together. The PC5-52 (in line amp) comes with a pin which looks like it should push into an EMPTY pin 5 location on the ISO connector. Will I have split the wire to make this connection or is there any other connection I could use. I have just bought a Sony HU which has its own harness to connect to the ISO connectors. This harness also has a spare wire called AMP REM. I think this is for an external amp. Could I use this for the power supply for the PC5-52? Thanks Martin
  10. As I listen to Radio 5 Live quite a lot I think I will need an aerial amplifier. Can you recommend an aerial amplifier. Is it better to use the switched live for power? Also will the amplifier actually work if it is placed just before the new CD player. I thought the amplifier needs to be at the aerial end otherwise you are amplifying the noise as well?
  11. Do you know if the ISO connector fixed into the car or is it on a lead, i.e. are the pins easy to get at to swap the two live wires? I have just had a quote of
  12. Thanks for your help. How is a standard sized cd player actually secured as I presume the original fastening will not be usable.
  13. I want to change my symphony radio cassette player to a cd or mp3 player. Is it possible to easily use a non Skoda cd player? Is the connector a standard or will I have to do some wiring myself? If it is a standard does anyone know what it is? Also the width of the existing radio cassette seems to be wider than normal cd players, can you get blanking plates to cover up the gap? Thanks Martin
  14. Thanks, I will see if I can find someone in the Burnley area. Martin
