  1. I've tried no end of car chargers but all seem to be loose and lose connection in the cigarette lighter. The latest is this one I tried, a quality make - but still loose! Works OK but I have to constantly push it to one side/turn it to maintain its power. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Charger-PowerIQ-Technology-Motorola/dp/B00U1677NG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1457713720&sr=8-4&keywords=anker+car+charger+4 I've even used a screwdriver to (gently) move the metal grips inside the socket out a bit but no joy. Does anyone else have the same problem/solution?
  2. With NOx emission levels that are apparently 10 – 40 times higher than US emission standards and the EPA requiring VW to "develop a plan to complete the repairs, including both the repair procedure and manufacture of any needed parts" to meet the standard for cars already on the road in the US. It sounds like a massive engineering challenge not a simple tweak to the engine management system to me and it's likely the changes would adversely effect performance such that owners would not then want their modified car. Looks to me that VW will have to buy the effected vehicles at their market value prior to this and perhaps then scrap them.
  3. I completely agree. VW clearly shouldn't done it but the potential penalties being discussed - more than $18bn or $37,500 per car are just extortionate. Before this, there was all ready discussion that US regulators' fines international firms are much, much more than on US companies. It's been the case with Barclays, HSBC, GSK and BP in the recent past, all have been hit with massively disproportionate penalties. The US appear to view foreign companies as piñatas they can easily bash for as much cash as they feel they need.

  5. The original poster said they had bought a TDI, the nitrogen oxide emission limits have been reduced substantially for diesels : EU5 NOx 0.18 -> EU6 NOx 0.08. I would be concerned if I were the OP particularly when it came to passing an MOT with those new limits.
  6. I agree, the manufacturers had plenty of notice of the new requirement, in Skoda's case they changed over in May (week 22) to only producing EU6 vehicles to, I suspect, avoid having large numbers of EU5s vehicles left in their supply chain. Also in the lead up to Sept there was heavy discounting of the EU5 stock. Any remaining unsold EU5 vehicles should have been pre-registered on 31 August latest to avoid this situation. Although it appears someone has slipped up here though, if as the OP says, they have been supplied with new 65 plate Spaceback with the EU5 105PS 1.6 TDI engine rather than the new EA288 EU6 85 kW (116 PS) 1.6 TDI fitted as I think it must from 1 September in the UK.
  7. Yes, that was my understanding too. Cars registered from 1/9/15 will be tested at MOT against the stricter EU6 emission limits so an EU5 engine I would have thought is unlikely to pass (see link : http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/90816/euro-6-emissions-standards-what-do-they-mean-for-you ).
  8. Just got it going, Region -> Australia (Carista) and Alt. speed disabled (car settings) and tick the newly appeared Digital Speedometer option in MFD setting (car settings) All good, thanks.
  9. I got the fully functional bluetooth adaptor today - many thanks for the recommendation it's working a treat. I've got the single click door unlocking going, tear drop washer wipe, dial staging going - all super. Couple of questions: 1. It listed a couple of things as disabled when I started - The daylight running lights and side mirror heating when rear heated window operating. The daylight running lights have always been operating and I think the same is true of the side mirror heating although can't be sure as I haven't yet been through a winter with the car. I've now set them both to enabled and can see no difference (no that I was really expecting to) the daylight running lights still operate as they always have and can't yet comment on the side mirror heating it's not cold enough (but not far off!). No problem obviously just seems a bit quirky and wondered if anyone else had seen this. 2. Can't get the big mph display working. I've set language to Australia and saved with Carista then disabled alternative mph display on the car but no joy. How does one get to see it; on my car I can cycle through Audio, Phone, Trip Computer stuff, Settings (but not whilst driving) with the buttons on my steering wheel. Does it appear as a new option when going through the ones I've listed or is there a special technique?
  10. Yes I agree. I had a test drive in one superbly comfortable seats and driving position, unfortunately, I had to rule it out as it left too little room behind me for teenagers.
  11. I found this useful : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjh6FFGyG6c and then this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Medipaq%C2%AE-Freedom-Wedge-Cushion-Support/dp/B00DFD9W7Q/ref=pd_bxgy_121_img_z
  12. I don't think your problem is with the car or they way you are using the app at this point. For now it's a problem with the ELM module - I had exactly the same issue. Amazon and eBay are full of cheap copies of the original ELM software/device claiming to have software version 1.4 or higher within the device (which is needed to perform the customisation functions you are attempting here) but in fact aren't and this error is actually what one sees in this case. I'm waiting for the genuine Carista ELM devices to become available in the UK currently only available in the US and will perhaps try again at that point unless the price is excessive.
  13. I got them from roofbox.co.uk and bought : CRUZ steel bars: CRUZ 115cm lockable roof bars (2) no. OT-115 (921001) £29.95 Roof bar adapters: CRUZ Optima foot kit no. CR5000 (935 000) £10.00 CRUZ roof bars fitting kit: CRUZ OptiPLUS fitting kit no. CR5630 (935 630) £20.00 So £59.95 all in but delivery was £5.50 on top.
  14. They roll off the same Skoda production line so I don't think they can really be thought of as a SEAT at all - it's little more than a re-badge. Which for me was a positive, the Driver Power customer satisfaction survey 2015 shows Skoda at No. 3 (behind Lexus and Jaguar) with SEAT in 15th position (although only a faction of 1% behind BMW in 14th). Although I think your mileage will vary on this Stormchaser - in a very literal sense of that phrase!
