  1. I think that's a bit of a result. After starting this thread and thinking that it would be a no go, where ever I try. I went to my own insurance company which turns out to be Admiral and they where very helpful. The Superb last year was £350 comp and this years insurance is only a couple of months away. Admiral will do the pair for £550 comp, Hmm... at £275 each I wouldn't think I'm going to better that? Thanks
  2. That old chestnut. I have my Skoda Superb as my everyday car and I want to have another car for the weekends and to tinker with. I know that NCB can only be used on one car and that there is a couple of companys will mirror your NCB but you have to be insured with them to do this which means I'd have to cancel my current insurance and start the year again plus maybe pay a penalty. Gocompare website is coming in at £400 with zero NCB. I was hoping for half of that for the amount I was going to use it. Also the car isn't a classic. It's around a 2004 to 2006 2ltr diesel worth up to £3000 any input, any ideas? thanks
  3. no apologies needed, if anything it's me. It's your car innit? And it's just got to be right. If anything..............when I first read that, I really did laugh out loud because I saw where exactly where you were coming from. I'll live with it for a while because the insurance is around the corner and I like to pay that in one go. Then I'll regroup and see.

  5. Hi Jimbof, Yeah, I should look at the amount of forum posts that people have before I judge I suppose. The whole tyregate thing has got me down. If only I could have found a pair of Goodyears at the time for £125 or anything like them. I thought I'd looked everywhere. As for import tyres, Landsail or Triple A I had reports of 'yeah these are good' or 'no problem with these' etc I've used part worn in the past many times without a problem but because my back two tyres looked great but were blocking I thought I could end up in the same position if I buy partworns. So I thought I'll get four new and matching. I was getting quotes of around £440 for four main branded tyres. Oh well. Regards.
  6. I've not been back to the thread because I was letting the other lads carry on talking tyres and due to being in hospital for a short period. But seeing as you asked Fatzy. I took the wife out in the car and pointed out what i was talking about. She said she couldn't feel anything (yes i know, she's not felt anything for a while) I took my neighbour out in the car and pointed the vibration. and he said he couldn't feel what i was talking about. although i pointed out the vibraition through the drivers seat and the armrest of the centre consul. Yes i know about the red and yellow dots on tyres and these should perhaps be placed where the valve is. These tyres don't have any. I bought the tyres from a place local to me that is recomended on Briskoda. It was a on convenient Saturday morning for me, a rare Saturday to myself but i wish i hadn't bothered. Although the tyre place is willing to remedy any issues I may have I 'm not going back there. Because? The alloys got marked in a couple of places and the sill is slightly sqashed at the two jacking points on the near side and it's broke the paint. I have since been to my regular tyre supplier who balanced the two rears and the left was out by fifteen grams. He says not enough to feel it. But it is a tad better or is it a mental thing? This constant use of the word ditchfinders etc with distain in peoples typing is getting boring now. Yawn. yes everyone's allowed an opinion but DO you know what you're talking about? or are you just jumping on the bandwagon cos you know they're from china. Or if it's not a big brand name they MUST be crap. As soon as i crash the car because the tyres let go, I'll be right here and say you were right but as it goes i can drive the car like i stole it and have no worries or issues with the grip, probably because it's a soft compound. And true to their sticker, 68db they are nice and quiet. Where am I now? Well...the car......it's right, but it's not right Sometimes that vibration is there but i would expect and better ride quality than this even will the SE model having a bit stiffer suspension. I just get in the car and accept it now. Zorst/Ken
  7. I've got Asda fabric freshener and have used it for the same thing. It says on the instructions. spray evenly from a distance of 15 to 30 cms until fabric is slightly damp. Allow to dry. Odour will fade as the item dries. add more as required. obviously test a small area first. I think Febreeze do one as well.

  10. Now listen, if I'm wrong I'll own up to it. I would be the first to say 'you know what lads, you were right' Just a recap. When I had my Michelins on it ran true and from what I remember, no vibrations. I have these landsail fitted because I was selling the car. I'm not now cos I can't find anything to replace it. I put the pressures at 33psi front and 35psi rear as per book and I can feel the vibrations. For a test I increase the psi all round to 38 which is what my Passat tdi was. This is to see if it feathers out the vibrations. Makes it better. It's actually made it worse, a lot worse. It's as its as if a wheel is bouncing beyond belief which makes me think that the tyre is out of round. Anyway, I think the way that it's going is that I'm going to get something else fitted on the car at weekend.
  11. Interesting, something to think about. yeah I'll give it ago. Just for the input of the thread. I've been looking through the paperwork/receipts for the car. I bought the car at the end of March 2015 and it had 60,000 miles on it. The car now has 79,000miles. There is a receipt for 2 discs and pads from National Tyre Service at 56,000miles from July 2014. It doesn't say if it's the front or the back. Either way I think that's a good innings. Thanks again lads.
  12. I drive accordingly to road conditions but aggressively and to what the car can handle while making good head way on where I want to go. A bit 50/50 on the brakes but never can smell them. The pads are straight (by visual through the spokes of the wheel) and with 5mm ish left on them. The discs are nice and smooth no scores on them. On the price of the discs and pads these can vary. I've seen Mintex discs and pads on Ebay, delivered for £80. I AM capable of doing mechanical jobs, I'm usually fettling peoples motorcycles for them. This is easy because they're fair weather riders and so undoing nuts and bolts on the bike is no problem. As appose doing work on the car. I might struggle a bit. Yeah the pads should be dead easy I just foresee an issue with getting the disc off?. I can get the front done supplied and fitted for £150.
  13. Usual symptoms. When braking I can feel the car have a jerky slowing down affect. They are on, then off, then on etc. if I just drive around like a pensioner, you don't notice. but more aggressively they have the pulsating effect. Probably through getting hot. Well that confirms it. If they can then I'll have to get it done. Maybe I am trying to avoid getting them done for now. And also because there's plenty of meat left on the pads but this fecking car has already cost me enough this week because I've had a sensor, four tyres and the turbo actuator replaced. So you can imagine how much I've spent so far. Oh well next job it is then. Thanks very much for the input though.
  14. I've had four new tyres put on the car. They were balanced and then checked on the balance again. But I'm still getting minor vibrations through the car between 50 and 70mph. I know the car has got warped discs, probably the front. My question is can warped discs give the effect as though your wheels are unbalanced. I certainly don't remember it being there prior to the new tyres. Thanks
  15. Had the same thing happen to me. Over the winter period when it wouldn't stop raining there would be a puddle collected on the passenger side floor starting in the same location as your picture. now i'm not saying it's this but......... The bottom corner of the wind screen, on the passenger, on the outside of the car, the wind screen rubbers didn't meet in the corner, there was about a 10mm gap. I think it was the upright rubber that was short so i just gripped it and slid it down to meet and it hasn't done it since. Best of luck.
  16. I don't think they knew if it was the right or wrong size. They fitted what I asked for and they had those in stock. Although at the time they would have been taking a 45 size tyre off to fit a 50 size and never said out. Also if you go on the Michelin website in the listings it does give either the 225/45/17 or 225/50/17 tyre for my/our cars http://www.michelin.co.uk
  17. This escapade is still bothering me as much as it's bothering you lot. I'll do anything for an easy life these days and i know going back there just isn't going to do ME any good. Not that I won't fight for my corner, but things just fester with me for a long time after the event. When i get round to it this week i'll take the car somewhere else to get the balance checked
  18. Thanks. Many times myself, and never had a problem.
  19. The tyre supplier that I used is recommended on this site, just saying, and so I thought i'd give them a go. Last Saturday I had the tyres fitted. The following Monday I rang them just to register that I could feel an imbalance whilst cruising at 50 and 70 mph on the motorway. They asked me to get back to them when I could to see what they could do. That was this morning. When I got there the owner/manager/worker listened to me. I told him that the tyres feel really good, no issues with the tyre, nice and quite as per sticker on the tyre etc, just to butter him up and then said that there is the smallest of judders, in the seat and in the steering wheel when cruising down the motorway. His first reply was that they could change the tyres around and if they find that one is faulty then I would have to buy another tyre off them and then the faulty tyre goes of to where ever they get them from to be annualised and if their supplier agrees then I would get a refund on that one tyre and this takes up six weeks. I went on to say that if you drive around here you won't feel it because of the constant bends and difference in road surfaces. The tyre company is sort of in the middle of no where with 50 mph roads surrounding it. but still he said he'd have a test drive before they do anything with it. While I stood in the car park I saw my car go off into the distance, then the car came back, pulled into the car park, he got out and said 'well I've just done 100mph down there and back and I can't feel anything'. Have you really i'm thinking. Well yeah, if I did 100 mph down there or anywhere I wouldn't feel it either. And that was it. He didn't do anything because in his eyes/mind there wasn't anything wrong. And there wouldn't be anything wrong unless he drove on a straight flat road at the national speed limit. So all I got for my troubles was compliments of how good the car is, and the steering wheel and gear knob caked in crap. I've done a few miles in the car today and the vibration is still there. I'll probably end up somewhere else for a wheel balance.
  20. I did think of getting some part worn originally but was worried I might be in the same position as when I started because to the eye there was nothing wrong with the two on the rear and with 5mm tread. But I suppose I could have gone back and they would have tried another tyre if I wasn't happy.
  21. Just thought i'd type something for your reading pleasure..............and cos i'm bored.............again. It looks like the Superb will be staying. I want to move on but as I've said in one of my other posts which ever way I do it I'd have to put money to the deal to move to something else. If the car is part ex'd in then I have to put money to it and if I sold the car private sale I'd probably have to put some money on top of what I get for the car. I've been monitoring Superb 2 models that are for sale and nothing appears to be selling. The prices are quite a distance apart. Superb 2s started in 2008 and if we look at 2008/2009 TDI and below 90k miles, which is mine, they range from £5K to £7K depending who's selling them. The ones at £5K or nearest offer aren't selling so this means I'd have to sell mine for £4500 ono if I was desperate. So my point is what other car is out there that gives this sort of quality, with these extras and with these aesthetics and with a finish like that in the cabin for that money? Oh yeah and with that sort of MPG return. Nuff said, moan over, move on. And selling it had nothing to do with, that this week, I've had to replace a sensor, had four tyres fitted, and then the turbo actuator failed, so I've had that done as well. I've still got the brake discs and some bodywork to do. I'm not giving up on it and I'll get there. Cheers Zorst/Ken
  22. Thanks for the input lads. When I got the car back the pressure was at 38psi all round. Superb according to the manufacturer is 33 front and 35 rear. So I have adjusted accordingly. I have thought as well that it could be a slightly misshaped tyre. A possible buldge/lump. I've just got the car back today from the garage to have a faulty turbo actuator replaced and on the motorway back that slight annoyance was there. I'll be visiting the tyre fitters again first thing Saturday morning so one of there members of staff can go out will me in the car for a demo. I'll take on board what you've said. thanks once again.
  23. I don't know why I even asked. Somehow I was expecting those sort replies. Why would I fork out £500 on tyres if I'm selling the car? Money i'm not going to get back. I don't need an answer.
