  1. morning all. I know that the DPF has probably been done to death, but has anyone had any DPF issues on a Superb when they've only had it from new for a couple of years then handed back. I know all the points about low mileage, and this car would mostly be doing very short school run trips . I know that petrol far better for this ( current car is Mk 3 Octavia VRS petrol DSG) , but for good or bad as a family we've decided that we want a sunroof . if I restrict the search just to petrols then it really is needle in a haystack stuff . it's whether something like a 190 4x4 from new, 7,000 miles a year for 3 years and then handed back...any ideas/experience if whether the DPF will cope with that in the short term ? thanks
  2. THANKS . yes I found it very noisy on the test drive. Possibly the 19 inch wheels compared to 18 inch on my current Mk 3. yeah I agree though, I don't know what's wrong with good old buttons
  3. thanks Italian job, is it eh the usual gripes that would make you vote for the Superb ? VRS too noisy etc ? I've now got contract hire quotes for the VRS with DCC, and the 190 petrol Sportline . Virtually the same, and that's with sunroof on both . both 25 week lead time unfortunately
  4. slightly off topic, but it sounds like the 220 has plenty of power, if I can;t get a 280 within budget . Question would be how does the new 190 petrol compare to the 220? Feels like it might drive like a bit quicker 1.5 150bhp, rather than a slightly slower 220 . thanks
  5. Thanks . interesting that you find the diesel stronger than the petrol, but that does back up my concerns about the petrol being a little bit lacking . Would only be a lease so not a huge deal , but mainly do in town mileage so dont want any doc issues. If only the vrs was a bit quieter . I’m sure my mark 2 and 3 were quieter.Out of interest what were your issues with the mark 4 Octavia ?thanks
  6. Afternoon chaps . Coming off a Mrk 3 petrol DSG VRS and looking for next car . I;'ve driven the Mark 4 VRS, and very nice, but noisy, and think would def need DCC . Just off a test drive of a Superb Sportline. It was a 190 diesel, but was more to get a feel for comfort and refinement compared to the VRS . Definitely quieter and more comfortable. Also, obviously not as nimble in the corners, but most of the time it will have kids in the car anyway . The preference would be for the 280/272 petrol Superb, but contract hire just far too expensive, although potential for 2 year old PCP. Just wanted to see if anyone had experience of the 190 petrol Superb? Sorry if been done to death elsewhere but couldn't see it . All the reviews seem to be of the 280 and the 220, and the 190 does seem a good step down . Not going to be a racing car, but don't want it ever feeling underpowered, loaded with kids and holiday stuff if went for the 190, then the standard suspension seemed fine and not sure if would need it, but the sunroof might be nice 190 petrol Sportline estate with sunroof v Mk 4 VRS with sunroof and DCC , both pretty much bang on £400 a month on contract hire ( Henry's Glasgow ) thanks
  7. After driving a very bumpy and noisy mk 4 VRS, I think the Superb Sportline is definitely becoming my preference for next car. The 4x4 petrol is obviously the preference but very expensive to lease and rare in second hand form. I've read various reviews saying that in every day driving the 220 still feels plenty quick, however it looks like that engine has now been downgraded to 190, which starts to feel a bit low on power for a car this big ( and coming from a Mk 3 230 VRS ) . I'd be interested in any thoughts anyone has on the 190 ( apologies as probably done to death elsewhere but can't find it ). Not expecting it to drive like a VRS, but plenty of go when fully laden with the family, and still quick and safe for overtakes . thanks
  8. yeah, I'd half thought that if I went for it I would need to get the DCC . Road noise i guess would be unchanged but much comfier, which at the end of the day is what is needed 90% of the time with kids in the back
  9. Well I've just come off an hr long test drive of a Mark 4 VRs petrol DSG . Current car is the same but Mark 3. First impressions are that very nice inside, feels bigger ( maybe because the gearstick is no longer there and alcantara dashboard sweeps away, and felt more solid. Also felt noticeably faster. However it did feel noticeably bumpier on our rubbish roads, and was very noisy. I guess the ride is what you pay for basically having a sporty car as a family car, but the noise did seem very intrusive. Wind noise and tyre rumble . I also have a 20 year old Volvo S60 and it is so much quieter. Going to be testing a Superb as well to get a feel for overall comfort levels, and also size ( as will primarily be used for the school run) . Feels like I could get all the ooomph I need from a Superb Sportline ( ideally petrol 4x4, but even the two wheel drive version), and far more comfort . I've also been looking at Volvo V90 and V60, but the essential boot space is so much better on both the Skodas . Tricky tricky
  10. i've just come upon the thread " annoying things about the mk 4" , heavily focussed on the annoying infotainment system and lack of buttons . Almost putting me off the whole thing! one reason for changing is to get a newer and safer car, as the mk 3 underneath is a 2014 NCAP test chassis I think
  11. wow! I was about to press the button on swapping from a mk 3 to a Mk4 VRS, and all this has really put me off. no chance to drive it at the moment due to lockdown, and all the reviews seemed great...but I guess they're not having to live with this annoying infotainment system. lack of buttons always seemed daft to me ( and dangerous ), and constant lane assist would be very annoying if have to constantly reset
  12. Morning. Apologies as I;m sure that this has been done to death, but I can't find it despite searching . I've currently got a 2018 petrol DSG estate VRS 230 ( and had the previous model before that ). I always go through the rigamarole of car research, but hard to get anything else that ticks so many boxes ( including massive boot for the family ). I really like the idea of a Volvo V90, but they're massive...but with a smaller boot, and not the best for the school run. Anyway, the current car is on a lease, coming to an end shortly. One of the things the family would like is a panoramic sunroof, and it happens that I've found a very good lease deal on a stock car, Meteor Grey, with sunroof. Again ticks all the boxes, although other option is to buy my current car. I've done all the sums both ways. My question is how do they compare. With the bigger ( in my opinion a bit lairy ) wheels, is the ride OK ? Seems to be nicer inside? Touchscreen good or a pain? Limited slip diff make driving it a bit better? I was considering a Superb 272 but very hard to get, and on a PCP woudl end up being £450 a month, v this lease deal at £350. Any thoughts appreciated . thanks
