  1. I too am an expat with a RHD Octavia. I've almost had the same situation but luckily had a spare key with me. Your drivers side (Left in your case) door lock microswitch is faulty. You can test this by setting the lights to door mode, open the drivers door and see if the light comes on. To avoid it happening again, just open another door.
  2. Just to add to the confusion of this, my UK spec ASZ absolutely has an engine management light and is used for engine related problems. I can get it to turn on by taking the intercooler off if you need a picture.
  3. Pärnu, and yeah I managed to add over 125000 km in two years. Car's probably been to more countries than the majority of people ever will.
  4. Been spending some time in the UK recently and went shopping in Liverpool yesterday. Decided to take some pics with the Radio CIty tower in day and night.
  5. Hi, I have a 2016 1.2 110hp/81kw Octavia and am currently in the UK with it. It's on the longlife servicing plan and just hit 125,000km. The oil change is due within 900km, however, I'm not sure what service is actually due? The car is no longer under warranty due to be over two years and the high mileage on it, but I'd like to get it what's due. Anyone have any idea what I should ask the local Skoda dealer for? Thanks
  6. Hi everyone, Hopefully someone here has had to swap an ASZ engine from an Octavia 1U. The pipe on the radiator popped off and it overheated and warped the pistons on my current my engine. The car is currently in Belgium and I need to get another engine to there to replace it. I was wondering 1. How much should I be expected to pay? Roughly in time how long did it take would be easier I guess. 2. Would a 130hp/96kw Superb engine fit or is it the AVF instead of ASZ? Thanks.
  7. Can confirm. Even worse on dirt roads in summer. As a Brit living here it's rather amusing to see my own country failing to sustain itself in some snow. Here's my back garden yesterday.
  8. Nope, Could only find a 2008 AXR Classic, pictured below in it's native home of Czech Republic. I actually plan on buying a fully specced out 130BHP version from UK very soon, waiting for a deal to pay off before hand.
  9. I was in Italy when it collapsed, I then bought dog leads and managed to lift the engine off the ground enough to drive it entirely through France and to Spain to a place that tried to repair it. He had to make new holes as the bolts as snapped inside the old ones. 2 days later and €780 down he got the engine in place and filled it with oil, then we noticed the transmission gasket had broken as well. Drove to figures to a dealership to try and buy a gasket and when they inspected the entire car they realised the gearbox rods and bearings snapped entirely. €8600 to repair it and would take 5 months to get all the parts they need for some reason. I loved that car, bought in UK and took it to every single country in Europe, parts of Africa and some of the Middle East. Naturally I flew from Barcelona to the UK and bought another one within the same day :P
  10. Mine was a 2001 ALH so they were in use then. Absolutely fantastic engine ironically let down by the engine mounts collapsing on a motorway.
  11. Been a while since I posted here so here's a picture from 14th June this year in a... well named village which happened to be next to "Wanghausen" and "Tittmoniger"
  12. Hi, I am wondering if anyone has ever added AC as an aftermarket add on? I have a 2008 MK1 Octavia from the UK with an AXR engine and sadly it's the classic without AC (even though it was a taxi when I bought it). I would like to add air conditioning (not climate control as I understand that's harder) and assumed all I need is the compressor and tubing as well as a button to turn it on or off. If anyone has ever done this before could you let me know the process?
  13. Pfft, 300,000 miles is nothing. Recently drove my 2008 mk1 with over 600,000 miles to greece and back. While I was there I had to take a taxi which was also a Mk1 Octavia with over a million KM. The odometer reads ------ in this case. These engines will never ever die and the Octavia is a fantastic base because of it's light weight not causing stress on the motor.
  14. The boot sits higher than the frame. I have the hatchback.
  15. One year later, 100,000+km on the clock I returned to Buckingham Palace in London. Happy birthday Mk3!
