  1. I have researched further on the topic and am ashamed that I did not do this before seeking advice. But thank you those who replied. This forum is worth it's weight in errr Skodas ! Just a word of praise for my little Fabia. 3000rpm = 75mph. It is surprisingly nippy, almost as quick [up to a point] as the Series 3 Beemer that I traded. The thing that I most like is the 1.4 MPI OHV lump - good, basic engineering. Takes me back to stripping engines with 3 spanners [ Dolomite, Zephyr, etc ]
  2. Further to my original query, I had the ECU read and the code that came up was PURGE VALVE. OK, so what is the purge valve, where is it and what does it do ? No mention of it in Haynes. Car still running perfectly but warning light still on as before. Any help gratefully received . [car is 03 vintage with 93K on.]
  3. Car has been running perfectly and still is BUT today the Exhaust Control Warning Light came on. I am not sure what this control actually controls or if the car is safe to drive without causing damage. Help appreciated folks.
  4. Rear screen washer not working but noticed that water is dumped on the floor under the front of car when I try to wash rear screen. I assume that pipe has come off pump but where is it ? Haynes makes no mention of pump location. I am assuming that they are near the washer bottle somewhere. Under battery perhaps ? Cheers !
  5. Just checking to see if there any interest in this run. Hawes to Tan Hill via the Buttertubs. I shot this with a vidcam mounted on my dash [ Beemer ] Early section fairly boring ! http://vid282.photobucket.com/albums/kk267/norseman_photo/blyssvids/Buttertubs%20and%20Arkengarth/HPIM1198.mp4
  6. Recent Skoda owner. On a whim, I traded my BMW Series 3 [ long in tooth and mileage ] and got a Skoda Fabia 1.4 MPI Classic Estate 03 vintage. Very pretty but a cheap PX so no warranty. Expected problems and I got them. Car ran sweet but with a major thirst for coolant - expansion pot emptied in a day. Stage 1 - found a leak on rad - Ahah sez I and bought new rad [plus some other issues like wheel bearing and odd-n-sods. Fixed ? not a chance. Got to be head gasket when I "found" the missing coolant in sump but pressure test was good on all cylinders ! So, orf with his head ! Gasket was punctured, two small holes. Shipped the head to machine shop in Durham for pressure test and milling. Bought new head bolts and re-assembled. Sweet as a nut ! So, new convert to Skoda. Now I just need to hunt down a bonnet release lever. [ Still miss the old autobahn burner tho' ] Festival weekend at Thornborough Henge coming up and I hope to use Fabia as a "tent".
