  1. Thanks Hudson. See my post 'Not a Good Start!'. I'll keep you posted!
  2. Yes, 16 wheels To be exact: Bridgestone 205/45 R 16 83W If I sound completely ignorant, it's because I am! All I want is for my car to be as reliable and safe as possible. Just have to trust that people are honest but that's an ideal world. I'll need to borrow a friend's husband to come with me on Friday! Thank goodness I found this forum
  3. Thanks for the quick responses. The car is not a Monte. It's a 1.2 hatchback. It was one of a batch of lease/hire cars that Arnold Clark buys back so I'm guessing that all the people who hired it didn't bother reporting the pull to the left. I don't need to use the car again till next Friday so no worries there. I didn't realise it could be that serious, so thank you.
  4. yesterday afternoon I collected my TSI 1.2 having part exchanged it for my 1.6 diesel estate. It had been driven to my local garage by one of the staff as it was in a garage over a hundred miles away. I didn't test drive it myself as I'd driven an identical car when I went to part exchange last week. Anyway, all was fine driving through town but when I got onto open road it started pulling to the left. When I got home I looked at the Used Vehicle Pre-Inspection Report and noticed that the NSF tyre was marked at 4 whereas the other three were 6 and 7. That seemed odd for a start, so I came onto the forum and saw all the posts about this same problem. I would have thought the lad who drove it back would have noticed it wasn't right! Rang the garage a few minutes ago. The earliest they can see the car is next Friday. I was assured there will be nothing to pay. Any advice for what I should expect from them and what to look out for when I collect it next week?
  5. Decided to go with the TSI. It is an ex rental which I know many people would not touch but my present car was also a rental and apart from the EGR problem, it has been great over the last four years.
  6. Thanks for all your comments. I'm going to test drive a TSI tomorrow.
  7. Jme, I was told by the woman at the service desk in the skoda garage that I needed to do a regular 50 mile non stop top speed trip to keep the car running well which I thought was more than your average person would do, especially in town! If that is the case, I'll probably change to petrol. My previous car was a petrol Octavia 4x4. Did 120,000 with no problems before I changed for the Fabia. Thanks for your comments
  8. looking for advice as I'm not technical at all! In May, I posted on here about replacing the EGR on my car (Fabia Estate 1.6 TDI CR 105 Elegance) 60 reg, 70,000 miles. Since then, I've been reading up this and the problems that diesels have with the DPFs. Until I retired 18 months ago, I was doing a high mileage each week as my job took me all over the Scottish Highlands. The car was never a problem. However, I now use it only a few times a week and usually for return journeys of less than 30 miles. From what I have read, this sort of driving is not good for my car so I am wondering if I should change to a 1.2 TSI instead. Arnold Clark garages are advertising 14 Reg 1.2 TSI 105 Elegance Hatchbacks from £8988 (with saving of over £6000 on cost new). Is this price because they are not the new Mk 111 models? Grateful for any thoughts. My ex-husband always dealt with car matters, though a friend's husband told me I need not to be so gentle with it and I to thrash it more when I'm driving!!
  9. That's a big difference in price! I'm going to collect it later so will see what they say.
  10. Sorry, that should have read EGR!
  11. My Fabia Estate 1.6 diesel broke down a few days ago. I called the AA who diagnosed ERG fault. He managed to get it started and followed me to the nearest Skoda garage (approx half mile away). Garage called today to say the car is ready. The cost is £950.00 which includes a diagnostic test for £85.00, even though I had given them the written report from the AA man which pinpointed this fault. Have I the right to deduct this amount from the total?
