  1. I probably average about 35mpg on the whole and that's with a near 50:50 mix of town and motorway driving. I seem to get about 50 miles for each 1/8 marker of the fuel tank.
  2. Another vote for the Jetex system here. I have one on mine too, with the tailpipe that sort of resembles the factory item. It's quieter than I thought it would be, even with the non-res system, but to be fair I'd rather have it that way round than drone on the motorway.
  3. I had saggy, knackered front springs on my vRS Estate until they were changed...for non-vRS ones! The vRS sits ~15mm lower (but please correct this if it's wrong) than a regular 2WD Octavia so fitting normal Octavia springs will make it look like it's wearing stilts! I see you have the estate too (great choice! 😉). The ride height at the rear may be a bit higher than the front to compensate for any loads being lugged but this does seem to vary depending on the history of the car.
  4. Well, here's my best effort so far. I thought I'd stick to purely out and about scenarios rather than at car shows/meets where it's easier to find interesting stuff. Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG Estate; so subtle and yet quite the beast I'm sure when required. Quite the rarity too these days! As great as the V8 Wagon would be I'll stick with my vRS thanks.
  5. I make a note of trying to park next to/near interesting cars where possible as I like to think the owners are more courteous when opening doors and manoeuvring out of spaces. However, looking through my pictures I haven't actually got anything worth posting! I will make it my mission to contribute a decent response when I can!
  6. I like to keep an eye on what's out there, not that I need another one but just to see the general prices they're fetching. A lot of the adverts I've seen do not fill me with confidence; poor quality pictures, terrible grammar and to be honest many sellers don't seem to know what they're talking about. "Remapped, fast" etc but then mismatched tyres, questionable service history, suspect mods and the like. If I was looking to buy one now I'd be very careful. I was pretty fortunate with mine...until I took it to a proper, reputable garage and got a £1000 repair bill for past botch jobs. But I wouldn't sell it for the world, now most things have been fixed and it's more akin to how I've always wanted it to be.
  7. There was a similarly low mileage, yellow example for sale recently on Gumtree. Can't recall where it was located but the private seller was only asking around £1700. Dealers are always going to have a considerable markup if they think they've got something unusual. One day we might all look back and think how cheap they once were. I mean, if it can happen to most hot hatches from the `80s/`90s it's surely only a matter of time.
  8. That looks cool! I can't say I've ever been a big fan of the Scout models on the whole but that one is definitely the exception. Give me one of those over any crossover any day.
  9. It's got to be one of the lower mileage examples out there but that the dealer is too optimistic on the price. Their time may come at some point but right now they're not worth a great deal in the grand scheme of things. They haven't been caught up in the whole "ask silly money just because it's a bit unusual" fad; for better or worse. Plenty of well looked after examples out there, albeit with higher mileage; just as long as they're cared for and have been regularly serviced.
  10. The link worked fine for me after a bit of provoking. I have to say that interior is rather nice; lovely stain-free seat centres is good to see. Mileage is lovely and low and only 2 owners from new is nice. However, that is strong money for one, although being sold through a dealer probably adds to that. Yellow isn't a "rare" colour so don't let the seller fool you there. Also, the tyres don't look to be of a known brand, certainly not the close up shot (but please inform me if I'm wrong!). That's something that would put me off spending strong money on one. If previous owners aren't prepared to spend good money on decent tyres then what else have they scrimped on? Like PB said, there are lots out there for a lot less which have probably been cared for just as well, if not better, just with higher mileage. Appealing dealer photos can often lure you into a false sense of security!
  11. Wow, now that's something I'd never think to try! I shall give it a go, thanks!
  12. Whilst I don't drive my car every day it is my only car and so I depend on it wholeheartedly. I do a mixture of journeys and the mpg is typically between 35-40 on the whole. Sometimes it can dip if I'm in a particularly spirited mood but long motorway trips can easily see over 40 if you don't engage "Audi" mode in the outer lane too often. That price sounds about right for the cam belt; 60k or so or every 4 years (and that reminds me, mine is due later this year). For the most part these engines are reliable; as mac said keeping on top of regular maintenance is key. I've done just over 35000 miles in mine (up to 153k total) and I haven't had any major engine issues. It chucked a bit of a wobbly when one of the coil packs went and the rear exhaust mounts just gave up one day, prompting a nice new catback to be purchased, but besides that it's been fine. There are typical bits and pieces that can go wrong but nothing that will break the bank for the most part. I've only had one four figure bill and that's because the upkeep prior to my ownership wasn't good enough. They only came in 4 colours; Red, (Sprint?) Yellow, Silver and Black Magic (sorry, can't think of the proper colour names for all) with yellow the least common of the lot. The Estates are less common than the hatchbacks but don't really command too much of a premium on the whole. There are still many out there but they are falling in numbers. They really are a bargain at the moment; it's just a case of finding one that has been looked after.
  13. Looks fantastic! I was put off from getting a silver one before I bought mine but probably because none looked as good as yours! I'm envious of how dark your plastic trim pieces are. No matter how much back to black I use (probably not the right stuff to be honest) I just cannot get them looking even remotely fresh for more than a day at a time.
  14. Do the cambelt and keep it going! Mine's an '03 and just passed 153k miles and for the most part it's been great. Has never let me down, besides a coil pack breaking about a mile from home and me having to limp it back. The rear exhaust mounts lasted until 149950 miles; so close! Now running a nice Jetex catback. It's still on the original clutch, as far as I'm aware, and seems fine. In terms of all-rounders I can't say there's a better car for the money to be honest. I'm hoping to get mine to the magical 200,000 miles. The engine is pretty much standard and I aim to keep it that way but just keeping on top of regular maintenance and servicing (particularly oil changes) should see mega mileage without too much difficulty. Edit: Oh and of course mine has the usual central locking issues too. I try to use the key in the door for the most part.
