  1. Thanks for all the replies. Now I know I don't need this fob with the codes I will take a look at the autolocksmiths in this area (Wolverhampton) and compare their prices. Thanks again
  2. HI. I have a 2002 registered Fabia with only 1 key. I started to get concerned that I might lose/damage this key so I recently looked through the manual and it says that originally there would have been, besides the keys, a fob with code numbers which is essential to obtain replacement/spare keys from Skoda. As I only have the 1 key and not this fob that is mentioned does this mean that there is no way to obtain a spare key complete with the necessary coding for the immobilizer etc. Thanks for any advice
  3. As a complete beginner with diagnostic software and wanting to try out vcds, could anyone tell me where the connector is, on the fabia mk1 to plug it in?
  4. Will these sort of problems with unwanted locking be a cause for an MOT test failure?
  5. With this sort of fault in the lock/unlocking system would this cause an MOT failure?
  6. For some reason my 2002 fabia has started to relock the doors after opening with the remote, just as though it had been pressed by mistake without the door being opened within 1 min. Also the warning alarm for sidelights being left on and drivers door opened when key is removed has also stopped working.Could this be a faulty switch on the doors? Does anyone know where the door switch is?
  7. Thanks guys. That's good to know. I will keep my eye on the level for a couple of days and let you know if there are any problems.
  8. Hi newbie here again (sorry) I have just drained and refilled the cooling system on my Fabia Mk1 and after finishing I ran the engine until the fan came on then, after waiting for it to cool down, topped up to the max mark, ran again until fan started, then left it on the drive overnight. Checked the following morning and the level was still at max. I then went for a short drive ( about 8 miles) and after leaving the car on the drive overnight again, checked the level. It had gone right down to the min mark. Is this normal after a coolant change? I had no trouble with the level before.
  9. I have found that I can reach and open the drain tap and can feel the outlet pipe so now off to find a suitable piece of hose. Regarding the disposal of the old coolant, I saw also advice on the net about flushing it down the loo. According to that it means that the output would be treated at a sewage works rather than go straight into a river etc. Makes sense I suppose but I'm not convinced that it is any more legal than down the drains which is apparently highly illegal and can end in court. I do understand that the fluid is highly poisonous and I would hate to cause someones pet or, indeed any wild creatures to suffer from it. Anyway thanks for all the advice it is much appreciated by a complete amateur.
  10. Thanks Wino. I'm nowhere near Oxfordshire but it was nice of you to offer. To make it clear I am not disabled as such but, due to medication I am on, if I get right down on the ground I cannot get up again without assistance, which is why I prefer to work from above in a standing position.
  11. Thanks hutchysrs. I understand about needing to catch the drained coolant safely, I wondered whether it could still be done somehow without removal of the undertray. I should explain that due to a medical problem I find it difficult to get down to low levels and can work better from above the radiator, I can just see the drain tap from there and wondered if it is possible to put a catch tray under the car then open the drain tap without needing to remove anything. If it is not then thanks anyway for the help and I will have to get a mechanic to do it for me.
  12. Hi. I wondered whether, as usually stated, it is actually essential to have to remove the undertray when draining coolant or can I just open the drain tap on the radiator without removing anything? I am not an experienced DIYer or mechanic so please bear with me if this is a simple question.
  13. It looks as though the wire was stuck not broken. It finally released and I gave it a few liberal squirts with WD40 which seems to have done the trick, but it would still be good to know ways of opening the bonnet if the wire does break.
  14. Hi. Sorry but another newbie question. If the bonnet release handle (the one inside under the dashboard) cannot open the bonnet is there any other way to do it? e.g from outside the bonnet is there any way of releasing the catch?
  15. Does anyone know how much oil I need to add to top up from C to A on the dipstick or is it a case of one capful at a time, trial and error?
  16. Thanks for the info, I didn't realise it used both sizes. I can now get spares for both. The diagram of fuse layout is a bonus as well. Thanks again
  17. I want to buy a selection of spare fuses to carry in the car. How can I tell what size fuses to buy. I don't mean the electrical amperage I mean the physical size of the fuses i.e normal blade fuses or mini-blade? The handbook doesn't mention this.
  18. Is there any way to tell which type of brake fluid (glycol or synthetic) is already in the reservoir? The handbook says use dot 4, but on looking for this I found that some dot 4s are described as synthetic while others are not and I have seen warnings on these forums about not mixing the two.
  19. Thanks again to all. The level is OK at the moment my query about which fluid to buy was for future reference. I appreciate all the good advice regarding pads and calipers too :sun:
  20. Is it possible to get seat belt warning fitted on a 2002 fabia
  21. Thanks folks for all the advice. I used both suggestions - cleaning the reservoir and using a torch and got a successful result. Thanks again. Can I add be a nuisance for just a bit more - an additional question, still on the subject of brake fluid? The handbook says to use FVSS 116 dot 4. Does this mean I can use any make of fluid from Halfords which is labelled as dot 4, or does it also have to specify the FVSS 116 bit?
  22. Thanks coskev I'll try what you suggest
  23. Sorry if this is a simple question but I am not very well up in motor mechanics. How do I check the brake fluid level in my 2002 Fabia? I know where the reservoir is for the brake fluid. The handbook says to make sure it is between 'max' and 'min' but I can't see any markings on the side of the reservoir and cannot see through it to ascertain the level anyway.
  24. Not a major problem but does anyone know how to fix this? When I use the central locking button on the drivers door to lock the doors from inside they all lock except for the front passenger door button, which needs to be pushed down separately.
