  1. For sale is my much-appreciated Fabia vRS 6-spd on an '04 plate. Bought as an approved used car in 2006 from a main dealer and serviced by them until they stopped trading - thereafter by local independent VW garage. It's silver and in good shape for its age. No dents or rust. Usual marks of age - minor kerbing on NS alloys, some small chips from poor parkers (not me, of course :-) 34,000-ish miles (about 34,300 at the moment). Cambelt has been changed twice on age (obviosly not on miles). The car has been great - used mainly for runs into London and back. Extras include Full leather interior (two-tone grey) from Seatworks Audi TT front brake upgrade (all discs replaced last year) Koni rear shocks 40 pin Apple audio adapter Centre console Cup holders "Golfball" shift knob Added auxiliary power sockets Pop-up glass sunroof MOTed in March 2014 (no advisories) Tyres good Contis - half worn Cash/transfer only please - no PX, etc. Contact via PM - Thanks
  2. Hi - I'm a current Fabia vRS owner in the market for a Yeti. I will probably buy an approved pre-owned model as I did with the Fabia. My Fabia has the 1.9tdi engine, which I have had no problems with. The cambelt change with age requirement is a bit onerous (I've only done 34K miles in the eight years I've had it, but changed the cambelt twice) and adds to the service cost. Not sure if this applies to all Yeti engines? I've read the new 2.0 deisel has some issues - but then you only hear the bad stuff. I don't really need diesel with my low annual mileage, but I do like the "grunt". Just wondering what others think of the 2.0 diesel in the Yeti (which I hear uses more fuel than the 1.9) compared to the petrol offerings (of which I have also heard issues). I would want the 4X4 Yeti, so that narrows the choice a bit. Thanks!
  3. My 2004 Fabia VRsS has a cracked OS/Driver's side front fog lamp. It still works, but I would like to replace it. I'm assuming it is a sealed unit, so no chance just getting a lens. I see this Depo unit on Amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skoda-Fabia-05-07-Right-Included/dp/B00AKBV0UI for a good price, but it says it is for 2005 - 2007 models - is this just an error as I thought 2004 and 2005 were the same? Thanks
  4. Many thanks! - Looks like that will be Audi TT Coupe 1.8 2004 Pagid Brake Disc (Front) Part Number: 104440858 In Stock Home Delivery Available £33.00 Update £66.00 Remove Audi TT Coupe 1.8 2004 Pagid Brake Pads (Front) Part Number: 101440708 In Stock Home Delivery Available £34.74
  5. It's time to replace the front discs on my 2004 Fabia vRS with the 312mm upgrade. Can anyone provide part numbers for suggested plain discs and matching pads. Pagid? Mintex? Bit confusing looking through Audi/Octavia listings as there seem to be variations. Many thanks - Steve
  6. So if listed as Gold they are 312mm Golf IV? There just seem to be more listings for the VW versions, although we know the boxes all have the four logos... Thanks for the info!
  7. I'm on MOT warning that it is coming time to replace my Fabia VRS's discs so I will probably do all four and the pads at the same time. The rears are stock, but I installed the larger 312mm front discs some time ago - what listing should I use for getting the correct parts? For example, one seller lists "VW Golf MK5 Front Brake Discs and Pads Mintex 312mm" - would those be correct for the vRS with 312mm? Thanks
  8. Thanks for the tip. Am I the only one that finds the tube to suck in cleaner to be positioned way too low? It seems if you have any decent size bottle of cleaner, you end up unable to get much of it out. I must say the layout of hoses and power cord on the Karchers is diabolical.
  9. You seem to be the only one interested. Do you want me to just leave them in the drive and you can collect when able or will you not be able to get them at all? I don't think tyhe weather will hurt them much - they are brakes, after all. Cheers - Steve
  10. Not really a problem but I noticed some time ago that when I am reversing my 2004 Fabia vRS, the heater blower speeds up as soon as I select reverse, like it has more power going to it. This is without me touching the throttle. I know the reversing light comes on when reverse is selected, which should if anything use up a bit of the available electric power and you might expect to hear no difference or a tiny drop in the blower speed - not an increase. But other circuits are in play as the systems also sense when reverse is selected and activate the rear wipe if the wipers are on, so maybe it's just some odd feedback through that circuit? Odd, but not a problem. (I hope) Anyone else notice this?
  11. Offering these again as the previous first taker was not able to pick up. They are out beside the wheelie bin and Wed. is rubbish day... PM me if you want them. Pickup only - W Berks nr Newbury.
  12. Hi all - Did the Big Brake upgrade a while ago and I'm never going back, so if anyone can use my OEM 2004 Fabia vRS brakes (calipers, hoses, pads and discs) you are welcome to them but you must pick up from my location, near Newbury, W Berks (RG17 post code). Prefer collection ASAP as I am cleaning out the garage. To begin and to be as fair as possible while still moving these bits on, I'll take the first reply that can pick up by 8PM Monday, Feb. 8th. Cheers - SteveP
  13. Well - a bit late but I switched to the "Golfball" style off a New Beetle GT and I think it looks great. The only problem was reconnecting the gaiter to the Skoda bottom clip that holds it in place. I used a desk stapler - been there for over a year... looks and works great. - Steve
  14. Here's an odd thing on my 2004 Fabia vRS. When I shift into reverse with the defroster running, the speed of the blower increases. I know there is a reversing light switch, which illuminates that lamp, and there is also a connection to the rear wiper which will make a swipe if the front wipers are on. But I would expect the extra "load" of the lamp to decrease the blower speed - not increase it. Anyone else notice this? It's not really a problem - just a mystery.
  15. Used to be every other shop offered those tilt-up glass panel sunroof mods. Now I can't find any. Has anyone added one to a Fabia? I've had a couple in cars over the years and the last one (mid-90s) was quite well done. Would love to add one to the vRS. Thanks - SteveP
  16. Weird so may countries mandate them, then. Like the 33 million people in Canada (who own more vehicles than the UK). And before you trot out that "Yeah, but they are in the dark north" go look at a world map and remember 80% of Canada's population lives within 100 miles of the US border. Just another example of UK standards being dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century. Of course, it's now the 21st... My fave is that the law still forbids side reflectors on motorbikes in the UK. Ever looked at a cop bike in your headlights at night? The ENTIRE side of the bike is reflective tape. But, no, NO side reflectors allowed on bikes in the UK. It's our law. Must be right. We're smarter than the rest of the world. It was only a couple of years ago that DRL headlights became mandatory on bikes here. That's 40 years after most of the civilised world. People are very funny when it comes to automotive safety and standards. The French had their yellow headlights. The UK has vestigial rear foglights (when was the last time you saw rear fogs used correctly? Ever?) The UK has its handbrake-at-stops (almost universally ignored now), reversing 'round a corner (illegal most places), no undertaking (road rage instead), 60 mph speed "limits" on single lane tracks... oh, I could go on.
  17. Seat Surgeons south (outer SW London) does a nice job, but the charge is
  18. If you do a lot of motorway driving, check the noise levels. I've only driven a few Focuses (Foci?) and while a very nice car, they tend to be quite noisy inside compared to my experience with VW group products. Maybe it's my imagination.
  19. Fitting resistors at the rear is easy enough but on the front there's not much room if you don't want to cut into the harness. Even then it's a tight fiddle. The bulp itself flashes normally even without the resistors - it's just the quick flash on the dash and the annoying beep.
